Re: Oddity with incomplete PDF printing

Hi David, Just to clarify, do you get the same problem at your location, or is it only at the SMC end that the file misbehaves? (edit:try a test print from page 235-250). Also, perhaps try to re-create the file, then see if the problem persists. Also, what is the size (in MB) of the 250 page PDF? Ab...

Re: Methodology for saving and identifying Finale files

Thankyou, Bernie, for your post and message. Your blog information is very helpful and I'm encouraged that I'm heading in a similar direction to you with my filing hygiene, etc. I will take note of the efficiencies in your system. If I ever find that German publisher video about their use of ISMN an...

Music Spacing Libraries

Hi all, Just wondering if any people here routinely fingerpoke with the Music Spacing Libraries, or do you just rely on the Utilities>Note Spacing>Apply Note Spacing... The manual suggests that: "By spacing your music with the aid of a Music Spacing Library, you can create extremely professional-loo...

Re: Methodology for saving and identifying Finale files

Greetings, fellow Geeks ( No offence intended...!) Necessity being the mother of invention, I've recently started naming files something like: Catalogue Number-Title-ISMN-EditionDate-FinVersion-FileDescriptor(Score or part etc).musx Catalogue Number-Title-ISMN-EditionDate-FinVersion-FileDescriptor(S...

Re: Courtesy natural in key signature

Update: If I go to Document options and uncheck "Cancel outgoing key signature", then the F natural in the key sig at the beginning of my 2nd movement goes away, however it also removes all key sig cancellations mid-movement which I'd like to keep.... I now am thinking that maybe Finale is correct t...

Courtesy natural in key signature

Hi all, At the first bar of my second movement (key of B minor), Finale is putting a "cancel natural sign" in my key sig. I have ticked "hide cautionary clefs, key and time sig" for this bar and the preceding bar (in measure attributes), but the natural sign still persists... Any tips on how to get ...

Re: Design a notehead

Hi again,
I have just found the two noteheads required.... (I had previously used a hollow harmonic notehead I think, by mistake).

Here is my latest attempt, with all noteheads at 100% now:

Re: Design a notehead

Hi Zuill,
Thanks, I found the filled-in one.

Here's my best attempt (I reduced the filled-in notehead to 85% to be more like the hollow one).

To my eye, it looks to be a slightly different angle, or a bit more square than the hollow one.

Design a notehead

Hi all,
I have some silently-held-down piano notes and I am using the hollow diamond-shaped noteheads for them, however I am lacking (in my chosen Petrucci font) a blacked-in diamond-shaped notehead. I'd like to make one... Which is the best tool / approach for making the noteheads?

Thanks,
Hector.

Thanks, everyone! I have followed in your footsteps and succeeded in creating the new smart shape with elevated dashed line. 8va dashed line

Hi all, Regarding smart shape 8va, how does one elevate or lower the dashed horizontal line extending from the 8va------------------- ? According to my Gould book, as I understand it, the dashed line (when indicating octave above) should be level with the top of the 8 or 8va, or level with the botto...

Piano music bar numbers

Regarding solo piano music, and from a publishing point of view, is it the 'norm' to NOT include bar numbers? I am thinking of not using them. When I looked in Gould, I see that she recommends them for scores with multiple instruments. From memory, I think most of the piano music I have seen in the ...

Re: Updating a 1998 Finale file

Many thanks for the advice! I have several old Finale versions on my antique Mac, which is lucky. FWIW, I opened a copy of the file in Fin26 just as a preliminary test, and it seems to be behaving well, so I may be ok after all. Everything was in place, except for a couple of text blocks. Apparently...

Updating a 1998 Finale file

Hi all, I've got a Finale file (piano piece) which I created in 1998 (not sure what Mac Fin version I made it in, it was probably the latest version at the time), and I now want to make a new edition of the score, simply to bring it up to my current publishing house style. Would it be wise of me to ...

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen

Hi all, Thanks for your responses. I did not find a way to nudge the automatically created hyphens individually, however I found a workaround within Finale which gets the job done. What I did was retype the word's syllables and omitted the hyphen altogether. Then, using the text tool (assigned text ...

Dotted 8va to have an incline and then flat

Due to layout restrictions, I am planning to make a dotted 8va line follow the contour of the notes (ie: starting above the notes but below the initial tempo indication, then ascending with the notes' contour and then levelling off). Am I right to assume I have to "fake it" by creating non-playback ...
