Re: Using a grid in Finale/setting it up correctly...?
Thanks Motet. I had an inkling that would be the case, in terms of its usefulness. (When I searched the Finale Forum, there weren't many questions about using a grid, for instance). I've also not used the 'Snap to Grid' function at all, either, so I was curious to see if people used it. As you menti...

Using a grid in Finale/setting it up correctly...?
Hi everyone, I've got a question about using a grid in Finale, and configuring it, too. I'm in the process creating a book of educational piano works, and I want to establish a solid Finale template that I can call on quickly, knowing that things will reliably look uniform and balanced. (For instanc...

Re: Notation question - 'a2' divisi in brass for flex-orchestra?
Thanks Peter and cunardferguson for the replies. Based on what you have both said, I think I'll go for 'divisi' (or div.) when I require the trumpets to divide up. I will also make a comment in the Performance Notes about how the parts are to be separated out. I imagine I would need to use 'tutti' o...

Notation question - 'a2' divisi in brass for flex-orchestra?
G'day Finale people, I'm trying to determine how to correctly indicate a divisi brass part in a flex-orchestra piece I have written. I have written a brass part (Brass 1) for Bb trumpets/cornets, and, in theory, it can be played by as many players as there are in the orchestra. Occasionally, it brea...

Re: Inserting flat symbol into Score Manager/"Score Name" Insert with Raleway font
Hello everyone, Thanks a lot, as always, for the great replies to my question. I was referring to the part name - ie I didn't want to write the word 'flat' or a lower case 'b' for the Trumpet. I've just gone with a text box, as someone suggested, and that has worked out okay. All the best, Andrew Ha...

Inserting flat symbol into Score Manager/"Score Name" Insert with Raleway font
Hi all, I've recently adopted Google's Raleway font (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Raleway) as my default Finale font for things like titles, composer name, and also the name of the part in a piece. Unsurprisingly, however, Raleway doesn't have a symbol for a flat sign. I was wondering, therefor...

Help setting up two Garritan Aria Players in Logic Pro X
Hi Finale people, I've recently watched Jon Burr's helpful video about setting up an Aria Player as a multi-timbral instrument in Logic Pro https://www.finalemusic.com/blog/using-finales-human-playback-and-garritan-libraries-in-logic-pro-x/ and I have a question... In Burr's video, he only needs to ...

Re: Multi-measure rests not being created...?
Thanks Motet! I completely reversed what was supposed to happen with the 'real' and 'fake' whole rests. And I probably turned off the 'Display Rests...' as I became more confused about what I was trying to do. Thanks, it all works now.

Multi-measure rests not being created...?
Hi Finale people, I'm organising some parts for an orchestral piece I have written, and for some reason I can't create multi-measure rests! I've made sure that the all the empty bars have 'real' rests in them, so this isn't the culprit. The only thing that I can see might be an issue is that I have ...

Changing size of individual measure numbers
Hi Finale people, I'm writing an orchestral piece with every measure numbered, and I'd like to increase the size of specific measure numbers so they also serve as rehearsal marks. This won't be happening in any systematic way, ie it won't be every ten bars. Is there an easy way that I can do this in...

Opening legacy Finale files into Finale 27 - missing Expression information?
Hi all, I'm editing and updating some of my old educational music (composed ca. 2004 - 2006) in preparation for publication, and when I open the legacy Finale files I don't get any of the new Expression marks that come in F27. Can someone please remind me how I get all of these new (and very useful)...

Aligning metronome marking (note and numbers) with tempo text
Hi Finale crew, I've got a question about how to align notes, numbers and text in a metronome marking. By default, it appears that the text is always slightly lower than the notes and numbers (for BPM) that come after it. I'd like to have them all at the same baseline (except the '=' sign), however ...

Re: Writing a book of short piano pieces - separate Finale files or one file?
Thanks everyone. Motet, I tend to agree with you - I'm not keen on having to make multiple changes across different files if I can avoid it. In terms of the number of pieces, I imagine there will be about 15 one page compositions. So that's 15 measure regions, I assume. As people have stated, I can ...

Writing a book of short piano pieces - separate Finale files or one file?
Hi Finale people,
I've got a quick question. I'm planning on composing a book of short piano pieces (probably around 1 page each). Would it make more sense to do these as separate Finale files, or as one file?
Thanks,
Andrew Harrison

Hi Peter, As always, many thanks for your prompt response. It's constantly appreciated. Score layout: aligning bottom systems on pages 1 & 2 (and beyond)
Dear Finale-sters, I've got some questions about score layout, which I'm struggling with (and have always struggled with, frankly). I've got a score with two systems per page, and, as per Elaine Gould's guidelines, I'm trying to ensure that the very top staff of the upper system, and the very bottom...

Re: Slash notation on layers 1 & 2, normal notation on layer 4
Thanks Motet. Yes, I discovered that you can only put slashes on a single layer. What I've done is hide the notes in layer 2, so it's all working ok. However, those hidden layer 2 notes don't play any more, but that's not such a big deal.
Appreciate your response.
Cheers
