Re: slur crossing fingering numbers

The key to controlling these behaviors is in the lower part of the Articulation Designer. Select the articulation and then the Edit Articulation Definition. If you deselect Always place outside staff and, possibly, Avoid staff lines, the articulation will no longer jump around and can be moved anywh...

Re: Printing 11 x 17 score

I contacted MM in July just after Finale 27 came out (no problem with shifting margins in v. 26). I was about to contact them to check the status but I see here the problem is still not fixed. It is a hard-to-believe problem and, even harder-to-believe, a not-fixed problem.

Re: Did we lose ability to import Tiff files in v27?

According to the v 27 user's manual, TIFF is still supported. I was also able to export a TIFF from v 26 and import it into v 27: Graphics > Place Graphic.

Re: Can you save different triplet configurations?

If you use FinaleScript, you can approximate the rapid selection by using keyboard shortcuts or just clicking on the script. An external macro program could do much the same.

I've included a ZIP file of the the FinaleScript Tuplet scripts I've been using in case anyone wants to check them out.

Patterson Plug-Ins has an option in the Settings Scrapbook > Title Page Copy. Just an a blank page at the beginning of the second document before copying to it. This plug-in is only available as part of the full set. It is not a part of Patterson Plug-Ins lite. The Patterson Plug-Ins can be reviewed...

Re: How to print system numbers?

Another way is to use sequential rehearsal numbers (make a duplicate if sequential numbers are already in use in that score -- or make a second Rehearsl Marks Category, which is what I did). Then adjust the positioning to be on the left of the leftmost measure. Using a meta tool, they can be added v...

Re: Single automatic accents positioning advice needed

Another element in trying to customize the placement of a single articulation in Finale 26 is that, even after making it "never stack" you cannot place it just anywhere. You cannot overlap the articulation with a slur. That means that there is a minimum distance between the accent and the slur that ...

Gould (Behind Bars, p. 91) recommends the same solution as N. Grossingink.

Altered Unisons: "Place each accidental beside each part so that it is clear which accidental belongs to which part.

Gould has a brief mention on page 484 under the "Bar numbers" heading. In the first paragraph, last sentence: "The first bar of a piece (or movement) is not labelled." Gould consistently using "bar" where most U.S. musicians would use "measure" -- as in "Bar Number" vs. "Measure Number." So far, I'v...

Related tuplet issue:
I recently experienced a problem copying a triplet with a dotted note in it. When copied, the rhythm was changed. Finale support said it it has been a known glitch for some time.

Mark all posts read

There used to be buttons that could mark all posts (of a board or of the whole forum) as read. They don't seem to be there any more. Am I overlooking them or can they come back? I used that function all the time so that messages I had not opened and did not plan to read (on that board) would show as...

Re: Ghost note spacing?

Not sure if this is what happened in your example, but if a person has just one (or a few staves) selected and (accidentally) activates Music Spacing (e.g., Ctrl+4) the spacing is controlled only by the selected music rather than taking account of all the music in the system.

Re: Overlapping Noteheads

Another way to help speed things up is to do one unit and copy to the other measures. Then change notes as needed. If the notes are already entered, after making the changes to the first occurrence, you can copy the changes to similar passages using Edit Filter, use none, then check only Special Alt...

You can also check Document Options > Music Spacing > Avoid Collision of > Unisons > None

The value can be changed at different stages of preparing the music and only affects notes entered or music spacing formatting made while the particular value is in effect.

You can also select the Custom Line Tool and find one of the lines that has a hook at only one end. Edit it to uncheck the Horizontal requirement. I also get that problem from time to time. Usually the metatools work normally. In addition to the solutions already mentioned, using Windows, I've found that closing Finale and then deleting the files inside the Temp folder often, but not always, solves the problem. The temp folder is hidden by def...

I don't know if there are other ways, but I was able to give the appearance of a broken beam by entering the same notes in 2 layers and then use the Beam Extension Tool to pull back the beams.

Re: Adjusting piano pedal marks with grace notes

If you have enough of these grace note offsets in the piece, it can be worth while making a duplicate of the Ped smart shape. Then edit it by changing the Position of the Left Start to an appropriate negative number (you'll have to experiment). Then use that copy just for these entries.

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput

I agree, courtesy accidentals after a barline are not the focus of the topic: It is meant to be a clear exception to the original premise. Logically, if the original premise were correct, an A-flat in the time signature with a flat before a particular A would mean that the pitch to sound is an a-dou...

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput

Amazing. One hopes Behind Bars by Elaine Gould would be authoritative. On page 81, she discusses when accidentals after a barline are needed. The text with the example is The barline cancels an altered pitch. However, it is essential either to restate or cancel the accidental when the repeated pitch...
