I remember posting this question to a forum when I first started using VST. Short answer, not within Finale - one or the other. You could probably integrate both using a DAW to control Finale and outboard synths.

As I recall there was a bug in the system: if the number in the score manager volume column is set to something other than the default 101, cc7 will change by a percentage of that number. I've used FinaleScript to program specific functions rather than having to navigate through cascading menus. There's also MetaTools. I believe the help manual includes tutorial videos on both.

Thanks. The dotted vertical line indicates the attachment point, so I'm wondering what is the purpose or function of the up/down arrow direction. Even in the tutorial I couldn't find an explanation of the arrow's purpose or behavior.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the volume mixer slider and the commensurate vol. setting in the score manager act as a cap, or maximum. BJ Nick: It would be helpful if you added to your forum profile the OS, Finale version, and if possible which instrument sample sets you use (i.e., Garritan or other). That would eliminate respondents having to ask for clarification.

As we're on the subject, does anyone here use a DAW to control playback in Finale via rewire? I've only rarely used Finale professionally, and at this point I'm reluctant to learn new software, but if it can dramatically improve playback I might try it. Thoughts?

Did you set the transposition in the score manager? This will normally be automatic when adding or changing an instrument in the score manager. When I added a tenor sax in the score manager it defaulted to treble clef, set the key signature for a Bb instrument, and the display was transposed up Maj ...

For a more precise playback another way would be to use the midi tool to scale or set note duration and/or tempo. The drawback is that the midi changes are only visible while the tool is open, so I usually put a hidden text expression as a reminder.

Cutting the outputted fiIes doesn't really work if there aren't clean breaks between sections in the original.
