Re: stop making room for accidentals in other parts?
Keep in mind that if those are separate parts, there won't be a space in the middle part when they are separated.

Re: MIDI interface for OS12
Yes, I bought one recently to connect an old Roland D50 to my M1 Mac. The first one stopped working after a few minutes, but Amazon replaced it and the second one has been fine. Be aware that there is a tiny little switch on the side of the interface labeled TAB and COMP. While it might appear "obvi...

It's a very new font and I haven't had call to use it yet. Sorry. For $10, it's a pretty cheap download to experiment with.

Re: Introductory measures instructions don't seem to work..
… The issue it has is that many (most) of the characters aren't perfect matches for Finale … I would rather say that they aren't perfect matches for Finale’s defaults . 1) The staff-line thickness is a document setting. You can change the staff-line thickness; you are not forced to use Finale’s def...

Re: Introductory measures instructions don't seem to work..
It works fine. The issue it has is that many (most) of the characters aren't perfect matches for Finale. Notice the difference in the staff line thickness and the size/shape of the clef.

Re: Introductory measures instructions don't seem to work..
If what you are trying to do is create incipit types of bars, a completely different way is with Ambitus, a special font designed for creating these sorts of things. You just create a Text object and type in the characters you need.

Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?
As others have pointed out, it's two names for the same instrument. It's always been my understanding that Contra refers to its range while Double refers to what it does. In the early days of string writing, the bass instrument was typically the Cello. The Contrabass would sometimes be added to the ...

Re: Not a Finale question
It could just be a poorly implemented score marking that is showing up in all the parts rather than only the ones to which it applies. As others have said, ignore it.

Re: Jazz Template Font (only 1 staff name can't change)
I believe the name "Piano" is actually a Group name, not a Staff name since it is applied to the two grand staff staves. I don't have Finale on this computer, but I believe you can right-click on the word Piano and set the full and abbreviated group names including changing the font.

Re: Graphic and finale - transparency
You used to be able to use a transparent EPS file as a graphic, but that's no longer the case. You can make transparent GIF and PNG files, but the GIF usually have a really low quality when printing. I typically use transparent PNG files if I want to insert some sort of graphic into my Finale files.

Re: Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?
Piccolo is a transposing instrument that sounds one octave higher than it is notated, or inversely, is notated one octave lower than it sounds. Is that what you are seeing? If so, then it is correct.

Re: Where is export to EPS in Finale 27.1?
Hi bkshepard, Yes, this works with PDF too. But what you are describing is converting a font to vector. That may have its purpose but not for someone who wants to preserve fonts. In any case, I don't see how this is relevant, especially since it is adding extra steps. It's very relevant if you are ...

Re: Where is export to EPS in Finale 27.1?
I haven't had to do this in awhile, but I used to export Finale notation into EPS and then import it into Adobe Illustrator to do graphical manipulations. Illustrator's ability to convert a font character to a shape that could be manipulated was really useful. Does something like that work with a PD...

Re: When creating expressions, font size is too small in DISPLAY
I think what the OP is referring to is shown perfectly in N Grossingink's image above with #197. It's not that the font itself is small, it's that Finale tries to show the whole text inside that one cell. Single words and short phrases are fine. It's when you have a marking that is multiple words lo...

Re: O/T orchestral parts question
I've been using the "Music Binding Tape" from Vital Presentations Concepts for years and have had great success with it. I find it less brittle than masking tape over time. It comes in a variety of pre-measured strips, or you can get it in a continuous roll. They also make a binding machine that use...

Re: What does this chord suffix mean?
Yeah, I'm guessing it's someone's personal shorthand notation. It's certainly not a known notation. Assuming the C in the melody is natural, I suspect you're correct in that it means Am or possibly Am7.

Re: trouble with midi combining staves
The problem with using a grand staff in Finale is that it's still considered the same instrument as far as MIDI and the MIDI channel is concerned. If you want to export them as separate MIDI tracks, you'll probably need to copy the grand staff staves to two independent staves and export those as For...

Re: O/T accent notation question
I've always thought of the rooftop accent as also implying a short duration in addition to its harder articulation, at least in jazz articulations. Is that not the case? If so, does the dot under the rooftop imply an even shorter duration?

Interesting. On my Mac, some columns can be adjusted but others cannot.
I can move the left-side divider of: Name, M(ute), Sound, and Prg, but can't move: Instrument, S(olo), Device, Bank, Ch(annel), and X (Delete).

Re: Paper colour
Especially with musicians performing on stage who are often under extremely bright stage lighting, a pure, bright white paper can be rough on the eyes. Consequently, I always use the more "ivory" colored paper. I buy the Accent Opaque Warm White 70# Text paper from LimitedPapers.com in the U.S. I or...
