Finale Customer Service said that the problem might be that when the screen wakes up from sleep it creates the problem with the Audio Engine, so I set the screen to never go to sleep. But still when I close the laptop and reopen it, the problem still happens.

Re: Style guides for choral music?
To follow up on what BuonTempi wrote about breath marks, I agree that they often require discussion and I have found that it saves rehearsal time to notate all breaths as rests. It requires a little extra time on my end but definitely saves time in rehearsal.

Re: Error Notice
Thanks, BuonTempi. I did a fresh install, and I tried all the Audio Setup tricks, including changing the sample rate and buffer size. I have a message in to customer service and I will report what they say.

Re: Style guides for choral music?
If you are a choral singer I’m sure you know that there is a broad variety of styles for choral engraving, and most singers manage to figure out how to get through the differences. Like Mike said, explore various publishers and see what makes sense to you and what pleases your eye. For church music ...

Re: Writing a book of short piano pieces - separate Finale files or one file?
I have done both the Finale and PDF route, but found compiling PDF's into a booklet the approach I prefer.

Error Notice
My laptop recently died a miserable death and the new laptop has Ventura as the OS. I keep getting the pop-up with F27 that the audio engine failed to load. I think I have seen that mentioned here before; does anyone know of a way to prevent this minor annoyance?

I believe the plug-in Perfect Layout does what you want. https://elbsound.studio/perfect-layout

Re: copy rhythm from a single measure to many measures
Looking at Mac and F27 I see it working as you experience, and not like the youtube video. If I were going to deal with that I would copy 1 to 2, then 1-2 to 3-4, then 1-4 to 5-8, then before you know it you have measures galore.

I don't recall seeing that, though it might be there somewhere. Is it possible that you are recalling Repeat > Check Repeats that shows the measure ranges for repeats?

This looks great. Can you give instructions on how to make it work? Does "mise en colonnes" go in the plug-ins folder?

Re: Hide measures 1#2
Here's what you can do. Select the measures in the first system, being careful not to include the two invisible measures to the left of the system. Fit Measures > Lock Measures into one system That might take care of it, or you might have to run the Staff Style again. You might have to repair the br...

Re: Hide measures 1#2
You have moved the cutaway measures to the beginning (left) of the piece. You need to leave them in the (invisible) system above. Then you can have a group and bracket.

It works for me. In the sample you posted you haven't applied the staff style. What happens if you do that?

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for, but if you "don't know where to begin" I recommend the Finale Tutorials which you can find under the Help menu.

Do you mean that you had a guitar part in C (no key signature) but when you added it to the keyboard part it transposed it to G?

Re: overlapping
Use the Note Mover tool to move the whole note to the left. (Note it is in layer 2.)
Also, make sure you have the Edit Filter set correctly and it should copy correctly.

Re: natural and flat note without enharmonics
If you use Simple and notate a G, then 1 for another G at the unison so you have two G's side by side on the stem, then make the left G flat, before the two G's it will put a flat and a natural. I guess that makes sense. Another approach would be to use the custom stem tool like you see in Gould on ...

It has been a long time since I used v. 2014, but in more recent versions there is a way to mute one layer. You should explore that to see if maybe you somehow did that by mistake.
