If you ctl-click the piano group and edit group attributes, there is a pop-down for hiding empty staves. It probably says Only Hide if All Staves are Empty. Change that and see if it does what you want.

Off Topic -- Ads?
Recently every time I go to this page (the Finale forum page) I get a pop-up ad, usually for Legos, which I have to close. It's just one click but it's annoying. I am many decades past the Lego age and for me they are mostly a threat to bare feet.

You can make a shape expression, and be sure to make it horizontally stretchable.

Re: Corrupted file?
Motet,
Possibly I was able to delete the staff after moving it to the top because both Felipe and I are on Mac. I will be curious to hear if it works for him.
Thanks for reminding me of the XML trick.

I did Staff > Reorder Staves and moved the mystery staff to the top, and was able to delete it.

This is a long shot, but maybe try Document > Data Check > File Maintenance and see if that reduces the file size enough to send.

Nothing there. We would need to be able to see the staves to figure out the problem. Try again?

If you clear everything from the score (ON A COPY) is it still to large to post here?

Re: Switch horizontal alignment of chord notes
You said you put in voice 2 first in one of your posts. Are you using voices rather than layers? If so, you might try layers. But I tried voices and it turned out fine.

Re: Switch horizontal alignment of chord notes
I assume you want the dotted quarter to the right of the whole note. For me that's what happens when I enter the notes. I'm using 27.4 on a Mac.

Are you wanting to check the ranges, as heinzfan suggested, or do want to create the little incipit that shows the highest and lowest note of a voice part?

Text Tool > Double click where you want the number > then Text > Insert > Page Numbers
Then Text > Frame Attributes > drop-down menu to Left Pages
Rinse and Repeat for right pages.

It works for me with an expression, exporting to PDF both through the print dialog and using the Graphics Tool. What steps are you taking?

There are a couple of ways to create a pickup measure. If you used Document > Pickup Measure then use the Selection Tool and select the pickup measure, then Document > Pickup Measure > Clear Pickup > OK.

Late to the game here, but another option is JW Change > Syllables > Font Size.
Syllables seems an odd spot to find that, but there you are.

Re: Orange chords?
I did a test and Michelp is correct, though in my case when the chord in the score is unlinked from the part it turns green rather than orange. I see in the Preferences pane there is a way to change the color of unlinked items so Mike's source must have done that.

Re: Inserting flat symbol into Score Manager/"Score Name" Insert with Raleway font
ebiggs,
When you put information into the File Info, then it adds that info to the score and all parts. So I assume the OP wants to add a flat in the File Info so he doesn't have to edit the title on every part.

No, he is referring to Score Manager > File Info.
Once it appears in the score it can be edited, but not in the File Info box.

Re: extract parts
To add to Peter's explanation, once you have created linked parts you can use opt-cmd-period to quickly cycle through the parts.
opt-cmd-comma cycles backwards and opt-cmd-backslash jumps from the current part to the full score.

Go > Document > Manage Parts > Generate Parts
Now if you do Document > Edit Parts you will see all the linked parts.
The parts may require some tinkering, but they are there.

Re: extract parts
Extract Parts is the old way to do it, which some people still use for various reasons. That creates individual files for each extracted part. The more modern way is Linked Parts which means that if a change is made in the score, it is also made in the part. My recommendation for you would be Linked...
