Re: O/T-ish: harp pedals

My experience is that harp players ignore your markings and work it out for themselves.

Re: Chorus lyrics

Mike, I just made a little file and tested entering lyrics on Chorus 1 and hyphens were working okay. As you are aware, often when using Type Into Score the hyphens don't pop up until you get to the next measure, but I doubt that's what you were dealing with. I did not fill 4 verses and then add Cho...

Motet,

Thanks for the suggestion on the Repeat Endings settings. I have been fussing with dragging those handles for decades.

I think you can grab the handle and move it off the page.

Using the Selection Tool or the Repeat Tool, select it and delete it.

You would think that would work, but it doesn't. PinFang is a very stubborn font.

Font oddity

In older files brought in to 25 or 26, some fonts get changed to PinFang SC which I assume to be Chinese. For instance, in the Repeat Designer “Fine” and “D.S. al Fine” get changed to Chinese characters and I can’t change them to English unless I delete and re-enter. In cases like I just described t...

Re: How to enter flat 9 chord

Back to Rob's original post, if you know the suffix number you can type that, so for instance (and your number may not be the same)

F:17 gives you F7(b9)

F:67 gives you F7b9

For suffixes that you use a lot it is handy to have the numbers taped to the wall above your monitor.

Small world.

I wrote a fingerstyle guitar piece of the same name for my daughter about 20 years ago which I have recently been updating since I'm playing more guitar in the lockdown.

Re: tablature totally broken in V26

>> don't know why the fret numbers would run backwards They are not really backwards, are they? It's not clear on the sample, but the fret numbers all have a minus before them because the tab is off by an octave, for whatever reason, possibly related to the music range thing. So for instance, in the...

That text is attached to the page. You will need something attached to the note, such as an expression.

Fellure,

If these are hymns from other hymnals, be sure there are no copyright issues. Even if they are old hymns sometimes there are arrangement copyrights in place.

Re: Help with a new hymnal

You wrote that you want someone to write hymns in Finale, but do you mean you want hymns already written to be put in Finale? I expect that there are plenty of forum members looking for something to do while stuck in quarantine who might help you. Do you have a style that would need to be matched? I...

Re: Multimeasure Rests numbering on Single measures

Unless I'm mistaken, those number range settings are for Measure Number Regions. You could have a region of everything before, one for the measure, and one for everything after. If that works, it would be worth the trouble for a few occurrences, but if it happens many times it would be quite a hassl...

Re: TAB chord slide

You didn't get an answer to this, so I thought I would offer my 2¢ even though I don't play lap steel. When I do tablature for banjo, for slides I just use a slur above the top notes and sl. above the slur. To my eye the six slide marks are confusing on the notation staff, especially with the accide...

Re: spacing - systems

There are a couple of ways to do this. As I wrote before, one is to use the Staff Tool, double-click-drag the top selection box. That will move all the top staves throughout the piece.

Re: TAB string names

Since you just want this once at the beginning of the first system it would be easy enough to use the Text Tool to assign the pitches. Do the first one and get the size right, then copy it and paste for the second one and change the pitch. You might do it with 6 little text boxes, or possibly with o...

If I understand your question correctly, I would just type the verse number as part of the lyric. You'll need to use a hard space so the number and first syllable remain stuck together on a note.

Re: finale 64 bit on iMac (latest version)

Part extraction (the old way of making parts) creates a separate document for each part. While there are reasons that method still makes sense in some cases, most people use Linked Parts, so that the parts remain part of the original document, and changes in the full score get changed in the parts. ...
