Re: MM Feature requests

Not true, you can put a lyric on a rest in Dorico Fair enough. Last time I tried, by default, it skips over rests. However, the point I'm illustrating is that for every instance of Finale doing something to help by assuming some rule of music notation, there's a user who doesn't want that because t...

Re: Has anybody heard?

Does Dorico let you enter some music then get playback of what you've entered easily? Is it only an engraving tool, or does it also have potential as a tool for composers? Yes. It's in the "Write" tab. all you do is click the note and hit "P". It plays from that point. Hit "P" again it stops. Hit "...

Re: Has anybody heard?

Nick, it appears you are using Dorico and seem to be enthusiastic about its present output and its potential to become a top music engraving application. Do you know whether Steinberg offers samples of Dorico's output as regards "real world" music engraving? I'd like to see, let's say, several scor...

The demo I tried didn't have the ability to edit parts at all. Want to or not!
Well, it does, and may I add, it does it very well.

Re: The future of Finale

I too had the Finale "Comfort Zone". I've also been using Finale since the early 90s. When I got Dorico's trial version I wasn't impressed. 30 days doesn't give one the time it takes to put it through its paces. I realized that in order to really understand what Dorico was all about, I had to give i...

Re: Has anybody heard?

I remember people being just as dismissive about customer service in "the good old days", complaining about boilerplate responses that "the defect has been scoped", and that the respondent didn't seem to know much. And as for rumours of MM's demise, they've been ten a penny for as long as I've been...

The future of Finale

If anyone put any serious time into using Dorico, as I did, you'll understand why Finale sees the writing on the wall. MM needs to do some serious thinking about their future. At the present rate, if Finale continues as is, I don't see a bright future for them. Even in its infancy, Dorico, in its cu...

Re: Hairpin movements

This is possibly a variant of the 'stuck key syndrome' usually cured (for the time being) by relaunching Finale, or if that fails by restarting the computer. Before doing either of those, you could try a high speed repetition, quasi tremolo, of each of the nudge keys in turn while in the smart shap...

Hairpin movements

While selecting the right or left box of a selected hairpin, my arrow nudging does not work. On the ones that work, if I select the right box of the hairpin and nudge to the right, it goes left. Up and down works fine. This just started happening out of the blue. Ups, the up and down does not always...

I have a string quartet with 35 pages and 2 systems per page. I formatted the 2nd page exactly as I would like the rest to look(pages 3 to35). Re: Drag and drop copies dynamics

Are you using 'edit filter'? You can select what copies and what doesn't. This is not filtering. Dynamics get duplicated. Every time I copy paste it adds one more item. So when I open Expression window, there are tens of same dynamic symbol. I noticed the same thing but wasn't sure what caused it. ...

Yes, but that messes everything up. I would need to specify the even and odd systems independently. Not sure how to do that.

Re: Out of range notes.

Turn off the feature to show out of range notes. That's designed for users with little knowledge of the instruments. As far as playback, if the sample doesn't play the note, that is another issue. Garritan ranges can be customized to play notes that are not in the out-of-the-box sample, but this is...

I have a piece that has a flute part with a "B Foot". In the "View" menu, I have "Out of Range Notes assigned to advanced, yet when I show the B (below middle C) on the flue, it shows out of range. Why?

Re: JW plugins ?

This is no joke, this is serious stuff. Many users depend on these plug-ins for thier work. I think MM should take full responsibly for this. All the plug-ins they offer to users should be 100% available when Finale is updated. DON'T UPDATE FINALE IF THE PLUG-INS ARE NOT READY. If they can't guarant...

Scripts in parts

I've created several Finale Scripts which I used successfully on my score, but when I go to "Edit part", and try to use my scripts, the scripts are not available. They are all grayed out. Am I missing something?
