Re: Percussion woes - again!

Thank you so much! Yes, it works here as well. I am confused as to how it wasn't loaded automatically, since I created the score using the set-up wizard... just another glitch, I suppose :?

Percussion woes - again!

In all the years I've been using Finale, I've never really got to the bottom of percussion. I've never really grasped the basic principles of MIDI, and usually I just muddle by, satisfied if the notation looks OK. But now I'm working on a project where I've been asked to supply an MP3 rendition, and...

Real whole rests in 12/8

I'm having a problem with whole rests in 12/8 time. I'm writing a score using linked voiced parts, and sometimes I need to write notes in a measure for the first part in layer 1, and put a whole rest in layer 2 to make it clear that the second part is tacet. In simple time signatures this is not a p...

Re: Hairpins crossing systems - A Lament

I just found a solution. Insert the hairpin in scroll view. Then it shows up with the open continuation hairpin on the next system. I think you may have misunderstood the OP's starting question. What he wanted was to NOT have the gap at the start of the continuation hairpin on the new system, even ...

Just a slight heads-up; I'm not 100% sure of my ground here, but you may have to make sure Document Options > MM Rests > "Update automatically" is unchecked in order for that edit to "stick" ... ?

Re: How to create multimeasures rests out of bars that have entries?

It's possible to deal with this using voiced parts by using staff styles in the linked parts which will allow the multi-measure rests you want, without the hassle of multiple scores. I couldn't give you precise instructions off the top of my head, because it's a few years since I had to do it. It's ...

Re: O/T - Capella files into Finale?

Yes, I checked the website, but I don't have the software, nor does the person who sent the files; they downloaded them from somewhere on the web. There is a trial version, but the website says saving is disabled, so I would assume exporting as xml is also not going to function. The third option sou...

O/T - Capella files into Finale?

Hi all,

Bit of a long shot; I've searched the internet for a solution, but to no avail.

I have been sent some Capella files, and I need to find a way of importing them into Finale. Any suggestions, please?

Thanks in advance.

You could also experiment with using "fixed size" fonts ... works for me most of the time.

Re: Horn in C

Trumpeters are certainly the star transposers among instrumentalists. I once played horn in a reduced arrangement of Falstaff in which the arranger added notes from missing instruments to the horn parts but left them in the original transpositions. The problem with this is that what horn players ar...

Re: Horn in C

That's a good point, but horns don't have the issue of the instruments they're playing on being in different keys, or switching instruments in a piece. I get that, but my point about players having familiarised themselves with reading standard repertoire in the original transposition still stands, ...

Re: Finale's odd bugle transposition

Who knows why Finale has chosen the unusual (but not unknown it seems) G transposition: another Finale mystery. It's all to do with the history of American Drum & Bugle Corps. I'm going to add the caveat here that I'm not really an expert, and some of our US colleagues may well find factual errors ...

OK, thanks, everyone for the input.

Printed a few pages of score and one part without incident.
Playback still works.

So far, so good ...

I don't really know; not really sufficiently tech-savvy to understand what the risks are. My apologies if there is already an existing discussion on this. I have searched but can't find anything. I am being "invited" by Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 11. Does anyone have any experience of this, and has anyone found any issues with running Fin27 under Win11 so far? TIA for any insights. ...

Re: Manually spaced multi-measure rests won't stay put

FWIW, one of Jari Williamson's plug-ins is designed for this specific task ie: respacing all MM rests so that their width is proportional to the number of bars rest. I use it all the time, with no problems. But, as Motet points out, the first thing the plug-in does is to turn off automatic update of...

Percussion notation question

Is there a rule (hard and fast, or otherwise) governing the direction of stems in single-line percussion staves? Finale appears to default to downwards, but to my mind this kind of doesn't make sense, because it means that the placement of dynamic markings in lower than it would be if the stems were...

Just occurs to me to wonder if the OP's difficulty is due to the fact that the measure is already full ... ? Not familiar with Simple/Mouse entry, so maybe Zuill's method will work there, but the Speedy method won't work if the measure is already full, unless you enable "Insert" ...
