OT - time signatures - international terminology

Greetings all I hope you’ll allow me a non-Finale question. I am currently working on a music terminology in Esperanto. Concerning time signatures, I’ve always classed them as either ‘simple’ or ‘compound’, but a Polish colleague doesn’t accept that. In Poland time signatures are either ‘simple’ or ...

Re: Creating ending with no ending number still shows a little dot

Greetings!

If you go to document options > repeats, there's a tick on the menu at "add period after number". Remove the tick and you're sorted!

Re: beaming in 5/8

Greetings Peter!

MANY thanks for a very quick reply. And of course your solution works! That’s not one I could have worked out. I see now that it’s a simple case of using a half plus an eighth. Yes – easy when you know how!

Many thanks again

beaming in 5/8

Greetings all! I’m sure there must be a simple answer to this question… I want to beam together all 5 quavers in a passage of 5/8 time signature. Finale allows groupings of 2+3 and 3+2. I’ve checked the various options in the time signature dialogue box but found nothing to help. In the end, I set t...

Re: remove [Group 1] from files

Thanks Peter - you've restored my sanity! All sorted now. Such a simple solution, but I couldn't find it!

And to Perotinus - yes, I'd seen the discussion you highlighted, but I hadn't realised it related to my question!

remove [Group 1] from files

Greetings all! I seem to have pressed some wrong keys 2 days ago and now every document is showing [Group 1] even when I remove the tick against ‘Show group name’ in Group Attributes. I have discovered that the only way to get rid of [Group 1] is to type anything in the group name box and leave the ...

Yes, I'll do as you suggest and will create a new file to replace my working, every-day 'boilerplate'.

Re: Strange behaviour of staff name…

Greetings Motet! Apologies! It seems you are quite right and I had posted the wrong file. I guess I hadn't saved the changes made, before posting. The file that should have appeared (without Peter's correction) is attached. And I'm pleased to report that I've used Peter's workaround to cure the prev...

Re: Strange behaviour of staff name…

Greetings Peter Many thanks for your suggestion which worked the second time I tried it. Perhaps I didn’t delete items in the correct order at first? This is a ‘Finale Workaround’, I suppose and still doesn’t explain why it’s happening. It’s fairly recent behaviour – perhaps it first happened toward...

Strange behaviour of staff name…

strange text happening.mus If you open the attached file in page view and click on Edit Staff Attributes > Staff Name in Score, you will see that the text box on the blank page opposite has ‘taken over’ the staff name. All I’ve done is create the text box. Why is this happening and what can I do to...

Re: spacing - systems

Greetings Musicus In page view, reduce the margins of one system manually by the handles and then mouse-shift that system closer to the system above. With the handle still selected, go to page layout > systems > edit margins. In the 'thru' box enter a large number and all your systems will be evenly...

Re: problem with staff names

Well, I've solved the problem by creating a new file and pasting everything into it from my earlier file. The stave names are now working as would be expected. But it would still be good to know why I had the earlier problem!

problem with staff names

Greetings All!

I have a 3-stave score which I want to label Cello A, Cello B and Double Bass. For some reason whatever I enter as the middle stave’s name gets copied to the bottom stave. If I edit that name, it gets copied to the middle stave. Can someone come to my rescue?

Re: Nested tuplets

Hello Motet I created your B nested tuplets easily with key strokes in Speedy by a) ctr-3 enter a crotchet (so ‘programming the crotchet triplet; b) return to the crotchet and press ctr-3 again and set the quaver triplet notes. c) end with two further crotchets which do appear as the initial triplet...

Re: cannot programm keyboard shortcuts

Thanks, Motet for your further explanation. I'm sure your plan would work just fine with someone who is brave enough to fiddle with the registry, but I'm afraid that I really don't want to start anything like that. I'll just let the free trial run its course and continue with F-2011 which works perf...

Re: cannot programm keyboard shortcuts

Thank you, Zuill, for the explanation. Do I understand, then, that the only way to get these two shortcuts to work in 26.1 will be to totally delete F-2011 from my system? I’m not all that keen on doing that at the moment, so I suspect that Make Music is about to lose a sale. I regret I don’t unders...

cannot programm keyboard shortcuts

Greetings all! I have downloaded the trial version of Finale 26.1 and want to programme add dot (to num pad ‘1/end’) and add tie (to num pad ‘0/INS’) via TG Tools > Keyboard shortcuts. I find these incredibly useful in my everyday Finale use (F-2011). Well, I can’t get them to work in 26.1. The dot ...

Re: Favourite font for triplets/tuplets

Hello Dave, I think it’s a question of experimenting and printing out several options to see which you like best. I still keep to Times New Roman, but just lately have set tuplet figures to 11 point, bold italic, and I also tick the fixed size box which avoids any inconsistencies with tuplets on cue...

string slurs to clarinet slurs

Greetings! I’ve been asked to prepare parts for clarinets (in B flat) from the 1st and 2nd violin parts and the viola part of Mozart Horn Concerto K417. I’ve just started and am wondering whether the strings’ slurs can stay as they are for the clarinet parts or whether they should be changed. If so,...

Re: rests' notation in 9/8

If I allow Finale to automatically enter the final dotted crotchet rest and then make a copy/paste, the two dotted crotchet rests are changed to a dotted minim on pasting. However, if I enter both dotted crotchet rests manually, then copy/paste does work.

Re: rests' notation in 9/8

Yes, I did go through all these different possibilities you mention before posting my question. I just thought there should be a setting to cover this. Perhaps there isn't!

Guess I'll have to keep entering manually in 9/8 instead of relying on the useful 'fill bar with rests'.
