Re: Quintuplets
Greetings! There are lots of ways to enter tuplets and no doubt other regular members of this Forum will chime in with their preferred method. But I’ll be brave and tell you my method. I’m on Windows and use Speedy entry. Simply tap ‘control-5’ and type in the notes! It couldn’t be easier! Andreo Ba...

Greetings Peter!
Goodness me - an easy solution which I should have been able to work out myself.
Many thanks - the part looks much better now!

a bar number question
Greetings! I’m now working on a double bass part which needs extensive cues. I have used two staves with all the cues on the upper stave, reduced to 70% and with the double bass part on the lower stave, increased to 110% (for my failing eyesight!). This means that the bar numbers at the start of eac...

Re: Forum topics no longer in date order
Ah, I see. I guess I was confused as for a long time only Motet's Transposition Chart has been at the top.
Thanks, Bill, for putting me right!

Forum topics no longer in date order
Greetings again! While I'm here, is there any way of getting the Forum to list topics in date order? The order has been rather odd for a few weeks now. I don't know whether this is just my computer or on other computers as well. Actually, on double-checking, it's just the top three which are out of ...

Many thanks Michelp!
That worked and my score looks much better now. I have never come across this before.
After all these years (decades, actually!) of using Finale, I'm still 'living and learning'....

1st & 2nd time endings query
Greetings all! I’ve just prepared a score for 2 trumpets and 2 cornets with 1st and 2nd time bars. I don’t want the 1st & 2nd endings to show on every part in the score, and so I unchecked Ending and Text Repeats in trumpet 2 and cornet 1 & 2. The result, though, is that when trumpet 1 isn’t playing...

Re: Tuplet bracket hooks in opposite directions
Greetings!
Can someone tell my why one might need a tuplet bracket with hooks in the opposite direction? The only thing I can think of would be a tuplet bracket in the middle of a harp or piano pair of staves to apply to a triplet on each stave. Am I close?

music spacing problem
Greetings all! Here’s a problem I’ve never come across before. I added some cue notes to a second stave above my double bass stave and the dotted semibreves have centred themselves in the bars! I presume this is because of the one bar repeat signs in the double bass bars (because the positioning of ...

Many thanks, Peter!
I didn't think to check in Document options. "Extend secondary beams over rests" was the command I needed!
All sorted now - I'm grateful!

Re: extend a 16th beam in 12/8
No! I want all those notes to be beamed together with the third note's semiquaver beam going to the left and joining up to the 2nd semiquaver. So basically, all the notes in that dotted crotchet beat to be within the same beam grouping.
Back to the drawing board....
Thanks!

Greetings David! A quick internet search has given these examples of quadruple dotted minims: Liszt: Piano Concerto 2, Allegro deciso, mm. 327 and 331; Schumann: String Quartet no. 1, Op. 41/1 III, mm. 16, 17, 33, 34; Verdi: Requiem Rex Tremendae, mm. 356 and 358; Franck: Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue...

extend a 16th beam in 12/8
Greetings all! Here’s puzzle for me. In a 12/8 bar, one of the beats is made up of 2 semiquavers, a semiquaver rest, a semiquaver and a quaver. I want the three semiquavers to be beamed together (with the semiquaver rest above the beam) but I cannot extend the semiquaver beam. I’ve tried the usual b...

Greetings Motet!
I'm pleased I can help you for a change!
This unison is done with two layers and then nudge one of the semibreves to the right with the note position tool.

Greetings Motet!
Yes, you describe what I understand should happen. I'll experiment some more tomorrow and if I can't get things to work (perhaps in other files as well), I'll load my file here.

problem with letters for bar numbers
Greetings all! I’ve prepared a stand-alone double bass part which numbers the bars from A-N for one section. When I activate Restore Measure Number Defaults to place bar numbers only at the beginning of each stave, all the letters remain over each bar. Is there any way of showing a letter only at th...

Re: Question 2 after installing Finale 27
Thanks David. I’ve checked both lists and they give the normal (traditional) commands for adding a dot (.) or tie (= or T). What I’m after are the shortcuts that Zuill explained some years ago which keep these commands under the hand when using Speedy (END for a dot and INS for a tie) so I don’t nee...

Re: Question 1 after installing Finale 27
Thanks, Motet - that will be really good to be able to open files like that. What I'm wondering now is how to make my Finale 27 files save in the Finale 27 folder that I've created. I've just tried to save a file in Finale 27 and it wanted to go to my Finale 2011 folder. I'd much rather keep the two...

Question 2 after installing Finale 27
An essential part of Finale 2011 for me is the keyboard shortcut that allows me to change the INS key to a tie and the END key to add a dot (in Speedy). Why don’t these work in Finale 27? I’ve just programmed them both and the tie command inserts a tie for one second which then immediately disappear...

Question 1 after installing Finale 27
Sorry, it’s me again. I suspect that I may have a few questions as I try out Finale 27. Here’s the first. I’ve entered a few notes in Finale 27 and wanted to go to Finale 2011 to check something. This message came up: “C:Program Files\MakeMusic\Finale\27\Finale.exe” is currently registered to handle...

Re: Finale 27 advert
Greetings again! I can now report that I’ve managed to install Finale 27! The initial screen was, to me, totally confusing and not at all intuitive. I downloaded the link again and, as before, I got the list of three files in large print in the middle of the screen: License file, Finale27 Setup.exe ...

Re: Finale 27 advert
Greetings mmike! I am very grateful for your reply and am in no way offended by your basic question! Yes, of course I’ve double-clicked on the setup.exe file but nothing happens. If I double click on the Installation Steps.txt file, all it does is change its name to AAKNOUD ISMAIL as mentioned earli...
