Re: Is this a bug? Spacebar+click to play
Finale User manual says: While pressing SPACEBAR, click the measure at which you want to begin playback.

Re: Simplify Note Spelling (Note, not Chord)
Most of my students would prefer to avoid double flats, double sharps, C flat, F flat, B sharp, and E sharp. Is there a utility to accomplish this? Bad decision. Students will encounter double-alteration notation visually many times in their lives, and they will not have the reading skills. Today t...

Re: Transpose to Clarinet in Bb
I probably don't understand the wording of the question very well, but... In your example, Clarinet is written in C. There are several variations. The simplest one is to go to Score manager (ctrl+k) and select the desired tuning in the bottom right hand side under Transposition: in Bb or in A if nec...

Re: Can't get dynamic shortcuts to work on french laptop
If you want to work seriously with Finale, I would recommend buying the optional USB numeric keypad. Alternatively, you can switch to the USA keyboard layout when working with Finale. However, the most productive option is to buy an additional numeric keypad and program all the necessary shortcuts w...

Re: Db note to C#
All you have to do is to make the first note in the upper staff a pause and hide it (because you don't need a quarter note with a dot here), and in the second staff, in the bass clef, to make the necessary alteration.

Re: slashes used as repeat symbols
If I understand the problem correctly, the solution is simple: the Articulation tool. Single slash - press "6" on the number pad and click on the desired note, double slash - "7", tremolo - "8"

Re: Print to Adobe PDF
I've been waiting a long time for the 27.4 update. It was indeed very disappointing to have this problem with printing to PDF. Normally I use the free PDFill PDF Tools program. It is exactly the same with it as with Adobe. It does not print. I have found a simple solution for Win users: choose Micro...

Re: Dorico?
Understood. I am one of those mogichans who rely on their musical literacy. In other words, it's much easier for me to write notes than to synchronise in Hyperscribe. If I need an audio file, I write it down in sheet music first. I cannot comment on the quantisation properties of the finale because ...

Re: Dorico?
I am one of those who have been using Finale for more than 20 years and still expect a qualitative leap. I have tried Sib-2 - I didn't like it and it didn't stick. When Dorico came out, I bought it. I didn't learn how to work with it because I found it technologically completely unlike Finale, unint...

PreSonus audiobox troubles
It may not be for this forum, but I know that there are many intelligent, experienced and technically competent people here. I am only a Finale soft user and have little knowledge of system matters. What happened to me is this: I use a Presonus AudioBox USB 96 external audio card to equalize latency...

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?
I have never used this method myself, but I tried it in practice before writing the tip. With my Win11 64-bit equipment it worked fine. Entering by editing, as engelbach suggests, is not the way dstraigh asked for, I think. For more specific subtleties of MAC usage, I think there is information in t...

Re: What monitors are you using for Finale?
I use DELL 32" for Finale and Samsung 27" PIVOT for ancillary applications and PDF. Previously I used the Samsung for Finale. For PDF I had an old HP 21", but I recently bought the DELL and I am very satisfied. The size of the monitor depends on your needs: if you are working with large scores, the ...

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?
The most basic way would be: in Speedy Entry mode, you press Caps Lock on the computer keyboard, then select the desired value on the numeric keypad and press the desired chord on the MIDI keyboard with the fingers of both hands. If the next chord has a different rhythmic value, select it again on t...

What is most disappointing is that MM is turning its improvements towards "space", leaving aside old problems that annoy practically all users. With every update I keep hoping: well, now it will be. And each time, to no avail.

I have heard a story that AVID, for reasons of austerity, had the idea of moving the main Sibelius development team to Kiev, or hiring a new, cheaper team there, or something like that. The old Sibelius people disagreed, and there was a serious conflict. Then the idea of creating a new programme on ...

This is not the first discussion about the Finale's potential death. There have been before, but I think that today's situation does not inspire optimism among Finale users. That includes me as well. There is also a popular view about brands: if it is not BMW, it is not a car, if it is not Apple, it...

Re: What are out of the box ideas that people are using Finale for?
Motet explained everything. Very simple. Electronic music is mostly based on repeating patterns. Copy-paste, if you modify something, copy-paste again. Since electronic music does not typically rely on written notes, export the entire result in MIDI or XML to a studio sequencer. There, the result ca...

Re: Outgoing Key Signature Question
The cancellation of the alteration by changing the key in our Finale is not really adequate. It is strange when changing to a unary (parallel) key results in completely illogical naturals and repeated accidentals. If this is systematic, it is even more strange when we change the sharp key to the fla...

Re: using "a piacere"......or......?
I very much doubt whether it is necessary to increase the number of words and, as in a road traffic rules, to clarify the concept. One would have to be completely ignorant of music to treat "freely in tempo" as just tempo uncertainty :) And I doubt if there are any such people among those who are ab...

Re: using "a piacere"......or......?
This is a common standard case. I usually use "Freely in tempo". "A piacere" allows you to play freely, without keeping a strict tempo. It is more of a romantic pianism attribute.

Re: MakeMusic lowers the price of Finale
Actually I don't know why folks don't upgrade Finale, at least more often then they do, when the opportunity presents itself. In fact, all the updates to Finale have never been "revolutionary", but rather cosmetic, a little "step at a time". Based on experience, people simply move on to more advanc...
