Re: Noteperformer issues
So NP techs got me up and running and only one [rpb;em remains: Playback stall (counter does not move) at the start of my 2nd Measure Region in Finale. That's my Movement 2. Tried "leftmost measure" and inserting cursor at sttart of mvt 2. Any ideas? I'd be interested to learn how you managed to fi...

Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?
Organologically, instruments that play an octave lower than written are 16-foot instruments, while those that play at written pitch are 8-foot instruments. I've always assumed that's where the "double" comes from.

Re: last breath
A few years ago I did a survey of publisher styles regarding dotted opposite-stemmed seconds and found no consensus. Of the four solutions that I found (your Dorico and Finale examples, a third where the upper dot is nearly directly above the lower notehead, and a fourth where the noteheads were rev...

When I'm not sure where a file has been saved to my first action is to try "Open Recent" and can usually find it that way. Did you try that?

Re: GameGlass Shard for Finale?
Sounds similar to Stream Deck Mobile, so I would think that it could be adapted to Finale. Check out JetStream to see what folks have been doing with Stream Deck and Finale. I don't use Stream Deck Mobile, rather the actual hardware Stream Deck, and the productivity boost in Finale is pretty great, ...

Re: Jazz Template Font (only 1 staff name can't change)
I can change the font for the Piano staff name in a document created from a Jazz Template in Score Manager: In Score Manager click on Piano and then on "Full Name..." Select the text "PIANO" Either call up the Character Settings dialog box (option-command-t on the Mac) or go to the Text menu item an...

Re: Move window to iPad
If your Mac and iPad are both new enough, you should be able to set up Sidecar (under System Preferences on the Mac) to let you use the iPad as a second screen, with mouse and keyboard control from the Mac.

Re: Too many notes
Passages with a lot of ledger lines sometimes require a little reduction of the note size to keep the ledger lines from touching since Finale doesn't allow shortening of ledger lines on a note-by-note basis. What's wrong with ledger lines touching? There's nothing confusing about this: :D LedgerLin...

Re: Half-dashed slurs
So if the composer ended a slur halfway between two notes and the editor decides that the slur was meant to end on the earlier of the two notes, would you still show a dashed slur extending to halfway between the two notes? Or would you use some other visual cue to show that the editor has removed a...

Re: Half-dashed slurs
I don't think this is possible with a single slur. I've never encountered a "common practice" critical edition, though, that wouldn't just dash the whole slur if any part of it was editorial. Was the original slur only over the first few notes and extended editorially, or was it over more notes and ...

Just a shot in the dark here...
My son's 2014 MacBook Pro had an intermittent problem with the headphone jack just dropping out unexpectedly and then coming back just as suddenly. When Finale sounds stop working, can you get the headphones to work in other programs?

Re: German eszett in Finale lyrics font
I think what miker meant was that since the eszett was never missing from the Mac version of the Finale Lyrics font, getting the version that was specifically updated to include it for Windows users wouldn't be of any use to him, because it didn't provide anything that he didn't already have.

Trill placement
In the attached example, HP insists on playing the trill on the penultimate note instead of the final note, even if I move the tr sign all the way to the end of the measure. Does this happen to anyone else? Any suggestions on how to get it to play as notated?

How to set a Fine on a downbeat
I've got a piece in simple ABA form, where the repeat of the A section is marked as a da capo al fine. I've set everything up so that playback goes back to the beginning and plays through to the Fine, just as it should. The problem is that the Fine is on the downbeat of measure 39, with the B sectio...

Expression causing unwanted playback effect
Can anyone confirm the behavior I'm getting with the attached file? The notes with the natural sign above them play back much louder than the other notes and with an accent. The figures have all been created as expressions using the Opus Figured Bass font, and the playback setting for all of them is...

Re: natural sign above staff
Looks like an editorial natural to me. The editor thinks it should be a b-natural, but it wasn't notated as such in the source, so the accidental is placed above to indicate editorial intervention.

There are midi files of the inventions at imslp.org that might get you most of the way to what you want much quicker than entering the notes yourself.

Re: Beaming with grace notes
This has been the behavior for as long as I can remember, and I've been using Finale since version 1. I guess the way I think about it is that since you're beaming across two notes you have to hit the / key on each of them. Never considered it a bug, though.

Re: O/T? layout for a particular concerto
Elgar wrote a piece with the same scoring. Not sure if your approach would/should be the same, but it might give you some ideas. The score is at IMSLP. Just search for Introduction and Allegro, Op. 47 (can't post the direct URL).
