But be aware that sometime in the early 90's Coda (the company that owned Finale then) changed all the serial numbers.
I bought Finale when it first came out and my serial number was 7XX.

Re: Measure numbering of repeats
Not good enough in my book. What if the first ending is long, and I want to be able to refer to a measure contained in the first ending? You say to not number any ending except the measure in the last or 2nd ending. What if a repeat is written out in one or some part and others have a 1st and 2nd e...

Re: Musescore the answer?
(Having to take hands off the keyboard to enter a rest the Dorico way would be slamming on the brakes.) It's to Finale's credit that this is even possible. This is incorrect. No need to take your hands off the keyboard at all. And Dorico's recent enhancement regarding dotted notes (you just press t...

Re: Horn in C
For Horn in C you need to set the transposition to "Up Octave" in the Score Manager. But if you're making a performing edition, do everyone a favor and put the Horn parts entirely in F. As an orchestral librarian for over 25 years, I disagree with this recommendation. Generally, our horn (and trump...

Re: "Proofing" parts/score
No, actually when I send something to someone, I just export as a PDF to my desktop and then send it on. So I'm sort of assuming that will be the case here: I will export all of the parts and the score, that means eight separate documents in this case - - and when I submit my piece, they will recei...

Re: "Proofing" parts/score
… files – one PDF copy of the score and parts … As I read this text, it is a matter of being practical: When you have created PDF files of score and parts, combine the files into one (big) PDF file. Then, send that single PDF file. Peter Thomsen, you just created a lot of work for a poor librarian ...

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)
with Dorico, you have to start moving THEN press the constrain key (shift, if I recall correctly). during that split second of "free movement" (before you press that constrain key) there is a high probability that the item you're moving WILL move off the axis you intended. But doesn't it snap back ...

The trick is that you have to start moving the item first, then apply the shift key.Michel R E wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 1:09 pmMy one annoyance with manual positioning is that it's difficult to get the mouse to constrain movement to vertical/horizontal movement.

No, they scroll up and down the page.
Home and end scroll backwards and forwards, respectively.
However, if you are in the print module, PageUp and PageDown do scroll as expected.

this is amusing.... in Dorico, there is NO function at all for passing from one page to the next without actually opening a dialogue box and typing in the page number. Wrong. I just opened a file and was able to navigate using the Home and End keys. Perhaps you should become more familiar with the ...

Numbers are helpful in order to preserve score order.
I put them in manually. For example: 001_Mozart_Symphony No.38_Flute 1
