If I had to guess I would say it's something about the font being sent to the printer. The Mac does seem to have a lot of font problems.

Hopefully someone with a Mac will try it.
Thanks! I hope it can be solved.

Re: Tenuto with dot won't print right

You said it occurs with PDF, too--have you looked at the PDF on the screen as well as actually printing it? Yes, both the Finale file and the PDF look fine onscreen, which is why I wondered if there is something in the printing itself that is causing this to happen. It just seems odd to me that not...

Your file prints OK on Windows. Hopefully someone with a Mac will try it.
Thanks!

I wonder if it's actually a problem with my printer, though I have no understanding why it would print everything as it appears on screen except for that one symbol.

Tenuto with dot won't print right

An articulation problem in printing: The tenuto mark with a dot prints fine when it is above the note, but when below, it won't *print* right; the dot is literally touching the line instead of having space between them. It looks right on the screen, but when I print it out, either directly from my F...

Re: Spontaneous quitting while adding cue note

Please specify the steps you’ve already taken (to solve the problem), so that we can rule out things. Assuming that the problem is not document specific (file corruption), but rather program specific (= happens in all documents): When something like that happens, the usual steps you should try, are...

Spontaneous quitting while adding cue note

This is happening quite often: I select notes I want added as cues, select the part or parts they go into, hit enter, and Finale abruptly quits. It has just happened to me three times in a row in trying to add the same cue notes. When I reopen Finale, most of the time the Main Tool Palette is missin...

Re: Abbreviated staff names in staff styles

I finally figured out how to do what I want, which I'll explain later, but first, in answer to your questions: Yes, I absolutely do understand the difference between Staff Attributes and Staff Styles. I use them all the time! I just looked at the score with two linked parts that you sent, and I don'...

Re: Abbreviated staff names in staff styles

Yes, I understand that and always have. But the staff name that you can check a box to display is always "Staff Name in System 1", and that name is also populated at the top of the page of the part, should one use the "score/part" text insert. So if I set things so that I can use abbreviated names i...

Check the abbreviated names in the score manager.
I have, repeatedly. They are there, and they are correct. But the staff styles changes do not allow for choosing between "full name" and "abbreviated name", so I don't know what to do. You obviously did it, and I wish I knew how.

Re: Abbreviated staff names in staff styles

Don't check "Abbr staff name." That's for if you want to change it, so you've changed it to nothing. Leave it unchecked to get whatever it is globally. If you only want to show the staff name sometimes, uncheck "staff name in parts" in the staff attributes, and use the staff style to re-check it wh...

Re: Abbreviated staff names in staff styles

The staff attributes have "show name", nothing about abbreviated or full. A staff style to turn that on where it's normally off seems to work for me (shown are the abbreviated names). Could that be a Mac/Windows difference? Attached is what I get. It allows me to display "Staff name in parts", but ...

Abbreviated staff names in staff styles

I'm trying to define a staff style that will allow me to display the abbreviated staff names in certain staves only in a group part, and all I get is the full staff name, which I don't want and which won't fit. The Staff Styles window has nothing in it about displaying abbreviated staff names only, ...

And when you generate parts the parts eventually to be combined will end up in the left panel, so after they are combined you will want to delete the individual parts. Tacet movements in parts

I have a three-movement piece, with all three movements in one continuous file. The middle movement is played by only about half the instruments. How can I indicated "tacet" for those instruments that don't play without just having a whole bunch of multi-measure rests in a row? Thanks, Mark Carlson ...

Generate Parts does it all from scratch, deleting the choices you made. Once you add an instrument to a part that takes care of it. Well, I thought I understood! I carefully got all of the parts in the linked part window as I wanted them: all single-line parts except for two groups. Creating linked single-line parts AND group parts from same score

Is it possible to create linked parts for single-line instruments and also for a group from the same score? Re: Partially hiding ties so they don't go through notes

Two ideas: 1) Edit ties, by flipping or flattening. Ties.jpg 2) Use the so called Ravel Ties: a short tie after one note and a short tie before the note it's tied to, to keep space open for other notes and avoid clashes. Thanks! No matter how much I tweaked the flipped lowest tie, it would reset wh...

Re: Partially hiding ties so they don't go through notes

In this case, the solution is to create white mask(s) to attach to the previous bar as shown in the screenshot. Then they only hide the staff lines and nothing else. As you have already figured out, you should use slurs attached to the beats instead of ties. Here is the raw version where you can se...

Ties are allowed to go through vertical lines, such as barlines, stems, accidentals.

You should avoid letting ties go through noteheads, though.
Thank you, Peter. How do you do that, though, other than having very high arch shapes, which look bad?
