Re: need to write out a swing equation

Thanks everyone! I'm trying to copy out a pre-existing expression as I compose a new piece. Finale 2008 is apparently quite limited in what it will do!

Re: need to write out a swing equation

Maestro Times and Maestro are available; what I meant was to ask, is there a way to insert a .jpg of what you wrote in? Or could you tell me the typing method of entering that in one of those fonts?

Thanks again!

That would be amazing, thanks so much Zuill! How do I insert that into an expression?

need to write out a swing equation

Hi everyone, I need to copy in a swing equation (dotted 8th/16th=triplet 8ths with the middle one a rest). I'm sorry, I can select and copy the equation into a Word document, but cannot figure out how to get it to show here. I've searched but haven't figured out a work-around, I assume this should b...

Re: double time signature?

Ok great! I have the double time signature and parentheses now. But I also seem to have added a bunch of extra rests, as I guess Finale now thinks that there is an added-on 3/1 part to the measure. Hiding those rests in one part hasn't condensed the measure back to its original length, am I missing ...

Re: double time signature?

Thanks for all the replies! What motet posted is what I need to do, have the 6/2 time signature that's there now, but add (3/1) with the parentheses. I've just tried to make an expression using Maestro Wide, but I cannot figure out how to get the 3 on top of the 1, and the brackets around all of tha...

double time signature?

Hi,

I need to set one bar's time signature as 6/2 (3/1). I've gotten the 6/2, and am sure there's a way to add the bracketed second option, but am not sure how...thanks!

change octave of playback instrument?

Hi everyone, I've started an arrangement with using a clarinet part, and now want to change that to bass clarinet. I managed to change the staff name, and would like to alter the playback instrument which I think is in Garritan. I note that there is no "bass clarinet" instrument listed in the Garrit...

Re: reposition tuplet number?

Thanks so much all of you! Yes, this is the result of an unimaginably complex (for me) set of operations to create cross-staff tuplets as grace-note groups. The selection tool worked, as long as I avoided some slurs I'd put in. Without you guys, I doubt if I could have figured this out in months! I ...

reposition tuplet number?

Hi everyone, Thanks to the amazing help here, I've been able to get cross-staff tuplets up and working. The only problem is that for 2 of them, the '9' and '10' numbers have positioned themselves too high once I dragged the beam using Beam Angle tool. Is there a way of grabbing these numbers and dra...

Re: cross staff grace note hell!

This sounds very sensible! However, when I try creating the 2 unequal groups of 16ths, I can get the "9 16ths in the space of 1 half" group, but when I try to do that for the group of 10, in the other 2 beats of the bar, I can put in 9 16ths, and see a dotted 32nd rest left over, but it won't let me...

cross staff grace note hell!

Hi, I am trying to finish an arrangement, and am having a problem understanding how to create grace note groups that go between staves, and that are lined up correctly in the measure. I have researched the net and found past posts that got me using the Note Mover tool's cross-staff function, the spe...

possible to open .musx file in Finale 2008?

Hello again,

A composer has sent me a file in .musx format, and I have but my old faithful Finale 2008, which does not recognize this format at all. Is there anything I on my end, or the composer on his, can do to bridge the gap? Thanks a lot!

Re: Finale 2008 playback instrument and tempo issues

Oh I see, even when I hand-deleted the tempo expression part of that instruction, it stayed 'embedded'. Deleting the existing one, and re-writing as just "Allegro moderato" fixed the issue. Thanks so much!!

Re: Finale 2008 playback instrument and tempo issues

Sure Zuill, here it is attached. I just tried making up a quick test file, and adjusting the tempo metre window does change the playback speed, so I guess that it's something to do with when I start with a tempo definition as part of an expressive instruction, from the new file wizard. Thanks a lot,...

Thanks Ron, I just tried that expression tool, but changing to quarter=300 or 40 seems to make no difference to the playback speed.

Ah ok, I did that, and deleted all MIDI data, but changing the playback tempo in the window above the music still doesn't affect anything.

Re: Finale 2008 playback instrument and tempo issues

Thanks so much Peter! That fixed the playback instrument issue, I'm saving that reply! I found the 'clear selected items' button but it's grayed out, so I don't know what I would select to enable that?

Thanks again,

Peter
