Re: Garritan GIFF library gone?

Thanks Buon Tempi. I've been using the latest and last Finale 26 with Garritan GIFF since it was released, and updating Monterey as the recommended updates appear from Apple. There is no evidence of Garritan anywhere in the Audio Unit Viewer, but Halion and others do appear and are functional. As an...

Garritan GIFF library gone?

Running 26.3.1.643 under 12.3.1 Monterey. The Garritan GIFF library is gone from Audio Units Banks and Effects, no longer in the pulldown menu. In the past when this has happened I downloaded the app again and Garritan reappeared. I downloaded everything successfully again today and the Garritan lib...

Re: JW Plugins disabled by OS10.15.4?

I just updated to Catalina 10.15.4.

The install was flawless. All previous plugins including Jari, TG, and Patterson are running as always with no error messages.

The "disappearing plugins" seem dependent on the exact architecture of your computer. No such issues at all with my equipment.

Re: JW Plugins disabled by OS10.15.4?

I trust Jari or somebody on the forum will let us know when the JW Plugins are running under the newest Catalina. Apple can be relentless in bombarding us with update notices. What about TG Tools and Patterson, etc? Giving Apple permission to update OS automatically is a poor choice for heavy Finale...

Re: Expanding the Finale Templates

Actually a SPEBSQSA and SAI combined template (or maybe it was HI by that time) would have been nice a couple decades ago when I was writing and engraving for those combined groups in Finale. It's been a long time. Very talented people!

Re: Expanding the Finale Templates

For what little it is worth, and for the good of the order, I've been building templates in Finale since it was first possible in the monk icon days. If you don't know monk icons, you are a Finale rookie. I simply wish I didn't need to build so many in keeping my clients happy with a consistent look...

Re: Expanding the Finale Templates

OK, let's try this again, for the third time. I understand everything everybody is saying, and appreciate all your responses. I completed a 10-brass template based on the exact settings of the 8-brass template successfully and to the ultimate satisfaction of my client a couple hours after I sent my ...

Re: Expanding the Finale Templates

Appreciate the response, but nope, sorry… It is not that simple, at least in Mac. Adding the two new staves is easy enough, as is creating the two new parts. As mentioned, if you add and create them in the wrong place, they won't appear in score order in the parts. They appear at the end. Easy enoug...

Expanding the Finale Templates

Could whomever created the Finale 26 Templates expand the available selections? As an example, If one expands the excellent existing "Jazz Band (Handwritten - Landscape)" template from 8 brass to 10 brass through the addition of 5th trumpet and 5th trombone, the two new parts do not have the "instru...

Re: Chord symbols in Anglo-American countries and elsewhere

I use minus plus - +, flat sharp b #, and all the other associated graphic symbols as per the desires of my clients. For my students I use - + exclusively to avoid confusion when half diminished "flat 5" chords contain three double flats, as in Cb half-diminished 7 (Cb Ebb Gbb Bbb) It is similarly c...

Re: Catalina 26.2 MIDI Note Entry

Appreciate the response! My Kurzweil K1000 dates to 1988, but was still working perfectly for note entry, which is all I use it for these days. That is, until Catalina "broke" it. It does have the classic 5-pin MIDI DIN cables and no USB. I guess I can try uninstalling the Roland driver and see if t...

Catalina 26.2 MIDI Note Entry

Catalina has broken my ability for Simple and Speedy MIDI piano keyboard entry with Finale 26.2.0.456. I assume this is a 32-bit issue, which is no longer supported by Apple. It may be a driver issue with my Roland UM-ONE MIDI interface. I also have an original Midiman Midisport 2X2, which hasn't ha...

Finale 26.2 - Catalina and MIDI Keyboard Entry

Though I'm a dinosaur Finale 1.0 user and should know better, it didn't occur to me my MIDI interface was 32-bit and would no longer be supported in Catalina. I waited dutifully for 26.2 before upgrading, and no longer have MIDI keyboard entry as my interface is obsolete. This is a new interface I p...

Re: Correct use of a repeat

I recall playing a high-profile full-sized jazz band concert with a famous jazz trombone soloist years ago. His plane landed late, we got the music literally as we walked on stage with no rehearsal, not even a talk through, with no conductor. Things went fine until the last piece, when the soloist t...

Re: I need to print two-up marching band parts

Quickstep size is half a choral octavo page. I've never been successful at printing quickstep two-up. I happened to be standing at the very serious high-end university copier trying to print quickstep PDFs two-up when the head regional company copier expert walked for routine maintenance and watched...

Re: High Sierra and 25.5 XML

Issue solved. Be aware apps including current MuseScore and middle aged Sibelius 7.5 do no seem to support the MusicXML format but do support the uncompressed XML format. Be certain to select "XML" from the Format pulldown menu, and not "MusicXML." Filenames ending with .xml will open. Finale 25.5 d...

High Sierra and 25.5 XML

Finale files exported as XML will not open in MuseScore 2.1 or Sibelius 7.5. Haven't tested Dorico or any Sibelius 8 yet. This includes any and all XML versions back to version 1. Finale 25.5 will open XML files created in 25.5. Is anybody else on High Sierra 10.13.3 reporting this? Perhaps the defa...

My old 2008 Mac Pro died. That chip set did not support past El Capitan. It took significant and greatly appreciated help from Wiggy and Motet to get my HP LaserJet 5000n to print in the move from Yosemite to El Capitan back in early 2016. Despite following those 2016 instructions for manually confi...

It took 17 posts (excluding mine) from some of the brightest Finale minds on the planet for you to arrive at a satisfactory fake workaround. I am glad to know it is at least possible. In the world of Paul Creston your example is a notational and playback non-issue. It is true what your are attemptin...

Re: Irrational meters and time signatures

American composer Paul Creston (1906-1985) would take issue with the term “irrational” relative to meters like 3/6. In 1961he called his 216 page textbook “Principals of Rhythm” an introduction. He quotes Paul Hindemith, “it seems impossible at the present time to include rhythm as an integral part ...
