Re: Things that move in pdf files

I am in the same situation as you. We do a lot of teacher related projects in Finale. We use Fin25 but I prefer either of two third party pdf makers. Cute PDF and/or doPDF. I have not seen any movement or changes to any document using either of these. I have tried the Finale included pdf maker and ...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

Update: For the time being I'm simply not bothering with the newer Finale. The old program continues to do everything I want. The pdf problem is solved. It was coming from the Finale export feature to pdf, which simply does not work right. Instead I simply print to a pdf export program and everythin...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

I would never ignore a great composer's playing of his own music. Nor would I. The Debussy above is the perfect example of the kind of information that can be gained or verified if there are errors in the text or other interpretative uncertainties. On the other hand, it takes a mature musician to s...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

3. Rachmaninoff did some funky rhythmic things. But that was his own personal approach, as opposed to his role as composer. I don't think that it is advisable to imitate his personal performance style unless it is also happens to be ours. This first: I agree 100% for his interpretations of other pe...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

Off the top of my head, if I were notating the Op 25 No. 2, F minor, I would most likely put a slash through the first small note but not on the second I think that is a fine way to notate it. There are about 10 different subjects on my mind that I would like to discuss, all related, but my answer ...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

I'm looking right now at an edition from Alfred edited by Palmer, probably the worst guy in the history of the world to give his ideas on how to play Chopin ' :D Not my favorite editor either (to put it mildly). Only copy of this Etude by Chopin exists, as seen in the second example in your first d...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

On the other hand, the whole last section is dark. Exactly, and then there's the clash with D natural in the preceding measure. Also to be considered: The German first and second editions have distortions in these two measures that make one doubt the musical understanding of the engraver. As seen i...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

That's an excellent point, Peter. Ending a major piece in minor is certainly a rarity. I am not sure the Mendelssohn really qualifies because it's mostly in E minor with a short E major intro. The ending of this Chopin Nocturne under discussion is an extraordinary improvised cry of pain that vacill...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

The program won't open. The program suddenly closes while editing a file and things are unsaved. Something big goes horribly wrong and a whole file is trashed. Is this still the case? Your other thread seems to suggest everything is now working. I think it was 2012 that would crash with certain MID...

Found it: Last chord of Op. 32 No. 1, about equally divided in editions between Dnat and D#, final chord. It seems the best interpreters are about 50/50 split in the same way...

Re: Courtesy enharmonic

the Chopin Ballade in F has unreasonably long phrases, and they are actually a bit ridiculous in that NO ONE could sing such a phrase or play it on a wind instrument. It presents a fluid, never-breaking flow the really can only work on piano - of on something like guitar. As you correctly intuit, C...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

No. I'm using whatever version of 2012 I bought, and since I have never once had a problem with it, that's what I continue to use. You never had a problem with 2012? That is as rare an experience as the problems you've had with newer versions.! Apropos of PDFs: I think I read that Windows 10 ...

Re: Finale says I am unregistered...

I think at this point they would probably give you your money back. Since you are happy with 2012, maybe that's the best think. Your friend with Finale 25 can save files for you in 2012 format. I may be getting somewhere. I got specific instructions on info files from my system to send to them. Fin...

Re: Finale says I am unregistered...

Update: Supposedly guys in Finale checked out the information on their site. They have admitted to doing nothing wrong but told me to try again. And suddenly I could authorize. I believe the problem was on their end. But now I can open up the new Finale only one time. It appears to work perfectly. I...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

Did you ever upgrade to 2014 or 2014.5 before v25? Just wondering. Zuill No. I'm using whatever version of 2012 I bought, and since I have never once had a problem with it, that's what I continue to use. I don't know how upgrades work. I've never screwed around with them because stability is 99% of...

I appreciate your sense of humor. But you might possible consider how you would feel being locked out of a program for 8 months.

Re: Things that move in pdf files

When you said print, I thought you meant you print then scanned to pdf. You meant using the print menu. A bit of miscommunication, I guess. So we are talking about differences in the way pdfs are rendered. That is a known issue with Finale, as far as I can recall, since the export to pdf was introd...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

I too do not see any moving when rendering to PDF. However, I am going to suggest that there may be underlying causes that can't be seen due to the fact that this file was created 20 years ago in Finale 3.0. Sometimes things lurk behind the curtains with older files. Have you tried recreating the m...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

One more thing: you are using Finale 2012a. I am using Finale 2012c to open this file. Maybe the c update fixed some things that might be adversely affecting your file. I know you're having authorization issues. If you get that straightened out, you may want to use update to 2012c and see what happ...

Re: Things that move in pdf files

And apparently that does not work. Please understand that I have fought with my system for two hours already trying to get Finale registered again, so at the moment I'm just ticked off. I fail to see how uploading the file is going to explain why the PDF is moving things when Finale itself prints th...

Re: Finale says I am unregistered...

The problem, apparently, is that Windows is expecting me to disable the firewall as administrator. The guy I'm talking with from Finale obviously does not know what he is talking about. But beyond this - and I can't get an answer yet - is trying to find out if I am the only person running into this ...

OK, something REALLY simple for my almost beginners: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ddpw9p5p3xy7z9/PDF.png?dl=0 Check M39, 40, 41. Phrase marks moved, finger numbers moved.
