Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
Sounds like your difficulty is to have your extra staff do double duty. Here's an excerpt from the Violin I part ofr Mahler's 4th symphony, second movement. (The solo violin has scordatura tuning, hence the different key signature). There is variously One staff for everybody Two staves, one for sol...

Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
Do you want the solo violin to have that role throughout a movement, or is it just temporarily? If the latter you may use a separate staff for the solo violin and show it when it's active and hide it when it's not. Adding 'gli altri' for the rest of the first violins when the soloist is playing, an...

Akthough, won't the extra staves show up on the score? I guess I could hide them in the score.

Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
I think you could have separate Violin I solo parts and a Violin I section parts, the former omitting the section staves altogether. If you want the solo part to sometimes play with the section, add staves for that and copy the section parts in where wanted. Sounds a good solotion...I will have a l...

Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
… For the vn soloist in the other movements I need to, for the most part, hide the rest of the vn1 section. But…I cannot get the multi measure rests to show when there is music in the hidden staff … If I understand you correctly, the problem is isolated to the vn soloist part - right? In that case ...

Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
Thanks for all your suggestions. Have got 'hide normally ' checked but still won't work. If the other staff is empty, I can just use 'hide empty staves' and everything works OK. In answer to your question Motet: I have a chamber string ensemble with vns 1,2, and viola each having a soloist. In movem...

Re: Divisi parts with different movement set ups
If I'm understanding you correctly, I do a similar thing with timpani and percussion in a single part and don't have this problem. Are the staves you're hiding empty? Yes, makes sense for your percussion and Timp. The staves I am hiding are not empty...which is why I think its not allowing the mult...

Re: "Saturday Procrastination" - Original Composition
Love the piano voicings and the cheeky motif that appears throughout. Really nice writing for piano. listened to entire piece, as opposed to just 'dipping in'. Bar 18 kind of sticks out....perhaps musical humour? Bet it sounded great with vibes/piano too! I too am glad that Finale forum has a spot f...

Re: How to create staff name change, 3rd movement?
I would set up the entire score like this: Violin I Violin I Violin II Violin II etc. Do you mean Violin I solo? If so, set up movements 1 and 2 like this: Violin I Solo (use Staff Style to change staff name from Violin I to Violin I Solo) Violin I Violin II Violin II (hide empty staff in both move...

… How does a custom staff style work this way? … Create the custom staff style, and apply that staff style to the region where you need it. (Click on the attached screen shot, to view it at full size) This is great, thanks Peter. Will spend some time now and sort it! I would set up the entire score...

Thanks to bothe ebigs1 and Peter.
I'd prefer to keep files together in this instance, so Peter I will look into your suggestion, thank you. How does a custom staff style work this way? Sorry for my total ignorance on this one!
I will do some research!

Can you be more specific about the equipment and how you wish to play it?KenBakerMN wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 11:39 pmI'm using Finale V26. Is there a way to route the MIDI playback to a USB port so I can play it on different equipment?

part names save with x
OK, this is a very minor issue but annoying when creating and saving orchestral parts. Is there any way to stop Finale putting the x after the title when printing parts (apart from manually changing...which takes time with many parts)?
Thanks all!
Jill

running headers on individual parts
Is there a way to do this?
I'd like the part name for each part to show on every page, 2 - til end (the first page is already taken care of)

best paper for printing in UK?
Have researched loads, found company 'purely paper' that professes to stock off-white paper, anti glare. Sounds good but prohibitively expensive and I think white would be better. Anyone here in UK have ideas where I can buy paper that would be suitable? Its for a self-published music book, so needi...

… I want the score to show in C … Since you specifically mention that the score should display in Concert Pitch, I suppose that the parts should display in Transposed Pitch - right? showing different clefs in score and parts for C score
Can't remember if there is a way to do this.
I want the score to show in C, but some of the horn passages would need to be in bass clef. The parts would be in treble clef
If I change the clef in the score it automatically changes it in the parts as well

Re: spitfire BBC core library with Finale?
Does Spitfire provide a host to house multiple instruments on one MIDI channel? VSL's player is also single channel, and they provide such a host at no extra cost. Hi Bill, no you would have to load their interface for each instrument. Shame as I think it would be a good library for Finale. I also ...

Re: spitfire BBC core library with Finale?
Read this thread, it should answer most of your questions. https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19569 Thank you. As I suspected, it is not designed for a notation program, rather for a DAW. The developer said it would work...it does, but you can only load a few instruments as it does not...
