Thanks very much.
I am happy to upgrade to full Finale--there is a deal right now--but I had hoped there was some kind of temporary solution.
My studio machine is Win 8 for physical controller compatibility, but the time has come to get Win 10 which I will need for full finale.

Copying Chords
I want to copy chords from one section (or verse) to another. This is a very common task in making a lead sheet, but I cannot figure out how to do it. Finale help says to choose the selection tool (arrow), go to Edit, and select Edit Filter | Chords. There is no Edit Filter choice. (And, of course, ...

Re: NotePerformer
This is interesting. I have talked to some well-known symphonic composers who swear by Note Performer. Keep in mind, though, that the ones I know do not plan to publish the audio output: they just use NP to work on pieces they will give to actual orchestras. In my case, the audio output has to be go...

Re: Moving Right Hand to Left Hand
Thank you all. Channel to Staff might be a good future option.
Exporting the piano MIDI to Finale will be an ongoing task.
Current DAW is Sonar X1 (Cakewalk).
My Finale version is in my profile. I can add that to each post, if needed.
Best regards, --Konrad

Moving Right Hand to Left Hand
I exported a piano part from my DAW as MIDI and opened it into Finale. I was prepared to fix some layers and enharmonics, but the imported result was a mess. Everything appeared as beamed notes in the treble clef, instead of right and left hand parts. Help says you can move notes but (1) I can't fin...

Thank you. I was not worried about thieves here and my work is copyrighted. I just hated to post a large work in progress. Thanks.

Re: Weird Chord Symbole Issue
When I click the Chord tool and highlight the chord, I cannot drag it. Aside from that, I don't understand why I can't delete it.

Weird Chord Symbole Issue
I have created lead sheets with chord symbols a number of times. Today, I am unable to delete a chord symbol. (I accidentally put it on the wrong beat and I want to get rid of it, for example). I select the Chord Symbol tool. I highlight the chord I want to delete--in this case, beat 2 of the bar. I...

Copy Lyrics
Sorry for all the questions. I cannot seem to find what I need in Help or the manual, and Google searches for Finale questions always show things that don't actually work. Question: How do I copy lyrics from one section to another? Example: I don't want to retype lyrics for multiple choruses. Thank ...

Moving Notes to a Different Layer
Once notes have been entered, can they be moved to a different layer without re-entering them? In a vocal lead sheet, I typically show an instrumental melody where the voice rests, like during an introduction, interlude, or ending. That way a band or arranger has the vocal, chords, and important mel...

Re: Note Duration
Maybe this wasn't the right way, but I found I could use the eraser on the second note in the tie, and then enter a new note and a rest. The new note would automatically tie. That is really easy. I was surprised I had to enter the rest manually, but it is certianly not hard. Note: This is fundamenta...

Note Duration
How do I change the duration of a note? I imported a melody from a sequencer, and I need to change a lot of durations. If I can understand how to do one, I can do all of them. In this example, there is an 1/8 tied to a dotted half for a total of 3 1/2 beats. I want to change it to a total of 2 1/2 b...

Re: Layers and Rests
Note for other beginners: @motet is correct and very helpful, but be aware that when changing a note to a rest as described, you need to be in Speedy Entry mode, not Select mode. In other words, the technique does not work if you pick the arrow tool first, but does work if you pick the Speedy Entry ...

Re: Layers and Rests
Thank you very much! I use my DAW for months to create songs and tracks, and by the time I need sheet music, I have forgotten how Finale works. :-) Importing MIDI leaves me with a lot of clean-up, usually requiring skill with layers. I can do DAW stuff by reflex. I need to get that way with Finale. ...

Layers and Rests
In the example, I have a quarter note in layer 1 and a whole note in layer 2. I want to change the quarter note in Layer 1 to a rest. 1-When I delete the quarter note, Finale shifts all the notes to the left. 2-Follwing the instructions in Help, I highlighted the quarter note and used SHIFT+DELETE. ...

Re: Why I Post on the Forum
Thanks for the help. By fumbling around :-) I did discover that changing the key signature was definitely the smart way to transpose notes and chords all at once; and, as mentioned in another post, where one clicks in the bar to change the key signature does matter. At this time, no issues are outst...

Re: Why I Post on the Forum
I did get the key signature issue resolved. It seems that *where* you click in the measure matters.
Other issues, like "Change Chords," are still outstanding.
