Re: Automatic Update Layout issue

Thanks, that's what I did and it solved my problem. I noted that worked in an update above, but I should have made a separate post in hindsight. It was easy to miss. I appreciate the help!!

Re: Automatic Update Layout issue

I see your point about Spacing vs Layout regarding the automatic spacing example. My Bad. I do know the difference but I conflated the two since I had both turned off. At any rate, to be sure we're singing from the same hymnal, I've attached a screen shot of my settings. With these settings, if you ...

Re: Automatic Update Layout issue

With what method did you split the measures? At first I tried "Measure Attributes>Allow horizontal split points>OK" Then highlight the second part of the measure, then "ctrl+down arrow" to move it to the next system. Motet, the systems were locked and the "2nd half" of each measure went back up to ...

Re: Automatic Update Layout issue

Measure tool>Allow Horizontal Splits>etc.
I use a lot of Jari's plugins but have never tried that one. (I don't often spilt measures)

UPDATE: I used the Split Measure plugin and then fiddled with the layout and voila, split measures remain in place.

THANK YOU!

Automatic Update Layout issue

In the Finale Manual it says: When Automatic Update Layout is not selected, Finale will still, on occasion, update the layou t. For instance, if you adjust the position of a staff or add staves, Finale will update the layout. So do I understand correctly that there is no way to get Finale to complet...

Re: Default 4/2 rests and "normal" whole rests in the same f

I don't think I've ever written in 4/2 before and I likely won't again. I guess it just goes to show how much we expect of Finale. And In fairness, it usually delivers. Also, I was mistaken in my original post when I said that if I put two whole rests in a measure and then hid one...that the linked ...

Re: Default 4/2 rests and "normal" whole rests in the same f

Thanks, Buon Tempi. I would prefer it this way. When the first two beats of a bar have notes and the last two beats of the same bar are filled with a whole rest, it is a bit disconcerting to see a whole rest in the next (empty) bar. In theory, I agree with Motet: a whole rest in an empty bar simply ...

Sounds reasonable, Motet. Problem solved. Thanks!

Default 4/2 rests and "normal" whole rests in the same file

I'm arranging an existing work for brass/timp and the 1st section is in 4/2. I know how to set the default rests to 4/2 rests (ones that fills the space between staff 2 lines), but the piece later changes to 3/2 and in that section I need "normal" default whole rests. Is there any way to accomplish ...

Re: Changing organ volume during playback

Duh. :-) I know what that is but couldn't decipher the abbreviation. Thanks for clarification. The problem with GIfF is that the organ samples are far more limited so that's why I prefer the F-GPO ones. (I've thought about getting the organ library but haven't pulled that trigger yet, but I assume i...

Re: Changing organ volume during playback

So... I tried this and it (mostly) worked. A few odd anomalies but overall, an easy solution. I cleared all midi/continuous data, etc. yet sometimes it will acknowledge a dynamic (mp e.g.) and then jump back up to normal volume (64?) right after acknowledging it. But, by adding the dynamic again, ri...

Changing organ volume during playback

I know that during playback, dynamics are ignored for organ samples. (I'm using full GPO is that matters) I seem to remember that one had to change the volume by applying various midi settings, but I'm not having any luck doing that. I tried using both velocity and #7 controller/volume (continuous d...
