Re: Behind Bars for guitar notation?
I don't know how I've given the impression that I'm interested in replacing standard notation with tab. I'm not. I use it as an adjunct to standard notation. Regardless of tab's merits or lack thereof, there's an entire industry based around offering guitar music in standard notation combined with t...

Re: Behind Bars for guitar notation?
Sure. You can put the number 10 on the bottom line of the tab staff instead of crowding the treble staff with a Roman numeral for fretboard position and a circled Arabic numeral for the string required.

Re: Updating a 1998 Finale file
I just went through this same scenario opening some guitar music I had notated in Finale 97. The funny thing is that it opened fine on one computer and opened as a garbled mess on another computer. Both machines are running Finale 25.5. I ended up having to open the file on one machine and saving th...

Re: send finale real time playback to protools? (finale 2014)
Is there a specific reason you have to do this the hard way rather than just overdub your instrument over the drum track in protools?
If you must have the audio signal live, then a virtual cable would probably be the way to go.

Re: Behind Bars for guitar notation?
You might post this at Notat.io Thanks for pointing out that site. It looks like you're a regular poster over there. I dug around a bit and didn't see much on guitar notation, but I'll make a post later and see what comes up. So far in my searching the only thing I've come up with is one suggestion...

Behind Bars for guitar notation?
I notate a lot of guitar music, but I've never had a need to publish anything. Final defaults and a little tweezing have been good enough for personal use. I'm in a position, now, where I do need to notate for publication, and I'd like to clean up my act. Does anybody know a good resource for modern...

Re: tips for a pc user?
Hello all, Windows 10 finale version 26. I'm just wondering if there are shortcuts to activate – simple entry, speedy entry. In other words not always going for the mouse and clicking those items. I know that Mac users can create a master toolset and was wondering if any PC users have any tips or t...

Re: Converting scanned music to Finale in 25X
I sprung for SmartScore X2 Pro a couple of months ago and the very first thing I tried it on crashed. The person I contacted there was very responsive, though, and ran my document for me. I'm using Windows 8.1. The program crashes for me without fail if I try to directly import a PDF file. I have t...

Re: Converting scanned music to Finale in 25X
If the PDF is font based, there are programs and websites that will turn it into musicXML which can then be imported into Finale. Do a Google search for PDF to MIDI conversion. If the PDF is image based, you would need an optical scanning program like SmartScore to scan the file and convert it to mu...

Re: How to get the most out of JABB
That level of realism is only possible by creating the arrangement phrase by phrase in a DAW utilizing plenty of controller data, patch switching and layering along with various other tricks.

Re: MIDI file export
Patches in a sample library such as Garritan don't correlate 1-to-1 with patches in the General MIDI spec. So even if the patch information transferred, you wouldn't be getting the sounds you originally had set up in Finale if played back in any other environment. If you have Garritan set up in in y...

Re: Tremolo Questions
… I also looked in the Gardner Read's Music Notation and, interestingly, he shows the half-note tremolos touching the beams, but the quarter-note ones not touching. I didn't find an explanation of the difference, though. The key is the open notehead (= half note notehead). As you know, half notes a...

Ambience is built into the Aria player interface rather than having a separate interface. I'd also possible to choose a convolution reverb.

I believe I found the culprit in your file. Try adding the Voice 2 quarters in measure 1 in this newly revised version of your file and see if it now works without changing the F# to B. If it now works, I'll let you know what I discovered. Zuill The suspense is killing me. Do we have to wait until ...

Re: Entering nested tuplets - nightmares in Finale 25...
I've always used speedy to enter nested tuplets even though I'm a die-hard simple entry user. The quickest way I could find to enter the nested tuplet on the final beat with simple entry is to build the tuplet on the first beat of an empty measure with the tuplet tool, then cut and paste it on to th...

I'm pretty much a beginner on the instrument, and I can get a fairly reliable A, in tune and medium dynamics. I would think anybody with any experience could hit A without breaking a sweat.
Re: TripletsF
I can do it in simple entry in both 2010 and F25.5 using the keyboard without turning off the extra note checking function. Type 5 on the number pad, hit enter 3 times for the first three quarters, type alt-9 for the tuplet definition dialog, select 3 quarter in the space of two quarters, type 6 on ...

Re: Stems over layers
I almost never use Simple Entry -- except for what you describe. Put in the alto note and then type a number to add the soprano note. So for instance, put in an alto F and if the soprano is A, a third above, type a 3. Or if you want to do it in the other direction, put in the soprano, then Shift-nu...

Re: GPO5 – to buy or not to buy
If you're not very happy with sounds in the pared down version of Garritan, I doubt the full version is going to satisfy you. But even the finest libraries out there take a lot of work to get close to a realistic orchestral sound. As far as getting more instruments is concerned, you could probably g...

I was going to say that VI not working with MakeMusic to provide HP parameters to its users would be a rather large oversight.
