Re: Does your Finale saturate the CPU?
Well, that's not good. If that's 33% of *multiple cores* being used for your playback, that would sound like one of your CPU cores is saturated (too). And therefore total memory also on your machine might be getting pretty thrashed. Might not be uncommon. So... I guess I'll have to do what I can wit...

Re: Does your Finale saturate the CPU?
Nearly none? I'm jealous.
That example I sent was with everything at the default. That means, even playing back through Microsoft MIDI pegs the CPU with Finale. (The pegging also happens for all four of the VST's I have; I just tried them...)

Does your Finale saturate the CPU?
The long and short of this post is: If you have a 32-bit Windows machine, and you start the Windows task manager (control-alt-delete-Start Task Manager), and you start any simple Finale playback, what percentage of all CPU time does your Finale use? Data from a couple other machines could be really ...

Re: Cue notes not playing back?
Turns out that "Document / Document Options / Layers / Playback" was turned off for the layer in question. I had completely forgotten about that one -- I *normally* use the Score Manager, instead, to control Layer playback. To reiterate: the Score "muting" must be "off" and the Document "playback" m...

Cue notes not playing back?
The notes in the attached test file do not generate any sound when I play the file back. I can't see a reason why. The file is a simplified extract from a much larger work. Help? I need the playback to work. Here's something that might have something to do with it: When I look at the XML for the fil...

Re: Looking for an older copy of Finale
Hi All - I was indeed thinking I was going to have to buy a full authorizable/register-able copy of an older Finale copy in order to test for the bug. But now... do I remember that lack of an authorization code still allows you to run Finale -- just not save? That would be sufficient for doing a pla...

Looking for an older copy of Finale
I've got a screen-refresh bug that's been driving me nuts. I brought the problem up here a while ago, but unfortunately we couldn't come up with any fix or work-around for it. I've tried my score on 2014.5 and 26 so far; both have the problem. So... recently I got interested in seeing if there was s...

Re: Looking for in-person help
With "JW Copy Part Layout" I would have to re-enter the current Layout once, rather than four times. It's a start.

Re: Looking for in-person help
Motet: thanks for checking. I'm glad the bug is reproducible and that I'm not crazy. I'm sorry I didn't try your fix (i.e., using Parts to select the visible Layers) right away. It's my bad. It's ingenious. And it works. But: if I use Document / Edit Score, I see everything just the same as before t...

Re: Looking for in-person help
I've been asked to post an example. In an effort to isolate the problem, I managed to strip down my large original file considerably, but not completely. (The number of instances and locations of the instances are very sensitive to the current contents of the file.) So it's on purpose that Layer 1 of...

Looking for in-person help
I haven't been able to find a good workaround for my most recent Finale bug. (See https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=17669 .) And I've started thinking my world might be a generally better place if I were to switch from using "Layers as parts" to using "Parts" as parts instead. Duh. But, it...

Re: What to do when Hyperscribe has fallen behind
Yes, I do have count-offs. You are psychic. That's partly where the irregular measures came from. And since my piano player is recording my count-offs explicitly, I've been using count-offs for my count-offs.

Re: What to do when Hyperscribe has fallen behind
Motet: BINGO! That was it. Eighth notes were already working. But now EVERYTHING is working. THANK YOU. WOO-HOO!! I won't go into the details, but... my personal feeling, given the grief, is that that dialog box is rather botched in the way it's worded, described, laid out, and implemented. But othe...

Re: What to do when Hyperscribe has fallen behind
I'm sorry, I never replied on this thread. The work-around was difficult (falsely tied eighth notes don't seem to go back to being quarter notes), but, M. Grossingink, I thank you for it nonetheless. I wasn't aware that you could slide whole regions left and right! I have new info: my problem back t...

What to do when Hyperscribe has fallen behind
When Hyperscribe falls behind, my resulting score has occasional eighth rests where notes should have been. It puts the eighth rests in without actually losing anything. In other words, everything downstream gets phase-shifted right by exactly an eighth. Comes out pretty strange looking. I've been t...

Countoffs in 6/8
When I'm working in 6/8 time, and I ask Finale Hyperscribe to give a countoff before beginning its recording, it gives the 6/8 countoff as 3 beats per measure (2/8+2/8+2/8) rather than as two beats (3/8+3/8). Would there be a way to get it to give 6/8 as 2 beats per countoff measure? My first though...

Need a different way to compress Staff Systems
The formatting of my current work is rather stylized: often I totally need to make some particular measures all land together in the same Staff System. Finale anticipates this: "Begin A New Staff System" ("BANSS") is a good tool for stretching a prior System a little, and System Locks are an easy-to...

That old question about (unnecessary) auto-save
Old topic. On program exit, or file closure, my Finale very-nearly-always asks whether it should "Save Changes". Even when it "shouldn't". For example, even when the mouse/the keyboard have not been otherwise touched since the file was opened. I have reviewed previous discussions of the same problem...

Re: Broken measure-insertion function
All right, I did the "XML cure". It did work for me. At least, I think it did -- it appears that I can insert measures once again, and everything is back in the right places. The editing to do the cure took about five hours. (It's not a small file, and I use a lot of user-defined Expressions.) I app...

Broken measure-insertion function
Hi - I am afraid I am at wits' end, again. Unexpected things are happening when I insert measures. If you're curious... The attached file, WitsEnd.musx, is a simplified extract from my current big production file. It looks like this: http://www.gwzz.com/tmp/WitsAtAnEnd-before.jpg I then do "Insert M...

Re: 8va/8vb intermittently effective
Back home from Christmas. I've done a work-around: I found an instance where I had an 8vb that was working, but not really needed. So I dragged that 8vb to the spot where I was having the trouble and dropped it there, and it continued to work. Then I went back and patched the spot it came from. Prob...

8va/8vb intermittently effective
I've got "Technique Text" trouble. In the attached fragment, the "8vb" is not working, i.e., it has no effect at all on playback on my machine. If I try to do the 8vb in a brand-new file containing the same material, then it does work OK. Unfortunately, I really need it to get it working within the ...

Re: Searching for quote marks...
Peter: re: including a leading/trailing blank in the search: you're brilliant! I "should have" thought of that. That got almost all of them. Just a few exceptions (for example, at the very beginning or end of a text string), but I cleaned the exceptions up easily. Still... it would be really nice to...
