Re: How to include a narrator

Thanks, all. My narrator speaks in different places, but never in rhythm. Sometimes over the music, sometimes before a movement begins, sometimes after the movement is over. So, with your help, I put some space between the percussion and first violins, and wrote the narrator's part with the Expressi...

How to include a narrator

How and where do you place a narrator in an orchestra score? I read the previous posts, but they weren't much help.

Re: Suddenly Slow to Load

I just discovered that it might have something to do with the speakers. I opened a Finale file and got a message that the audio engine failed to load. (Attached) That was because I had enabled headphones, but had neglected to plug them in. So when I clicked OK, Finale opened instantly. So I closed F...

Suddenly Slow to Load

Windows 11--Finale was loading instantaneously until I Reset all Preferences. Now it takes a full two minutes to load. I've read all the old posts about Windows Security>Manage Settings>Exclusions, etc., etc. I excluded everything remotely associated with Finale and MakeMusic, but it doesn't help. W...

No Delete. No Ctrl Z. No Progress Bar

All of a sudden there's no progress bar at the bottom. I have to move pages with the hand icon. The delete key doesn't work at all. I have to use Ctrl X. And Ctrl Z doesn't work either. I have to use the eraser or Ctrl X. I thought it might be a problem with my keyboard, so I bought a new one. Same ...

Re: Can't see Smart Shapes

Yes, I did, to no avail. HOWEVER, I did click the minimize and maximize square and discovered that I could move the whole screen over so I could see everything. How do I delete this post?

Can't see Smart Shapes

I know this has been an issue in the past, and I have read previous posts from users who have had this problem, but they haven't helped. I just got a new Dell SPX 13, and Finale was working fine. Then all of a sudden only the edge of the Smart Shapes window shows on the far right of the screen. I ca...

Soprano audio disappeared

I'm finishing up a work for SATB chorus and strings, and I deleted the strings (put them in another file) so I could hear the choir by itself, and now I can't hear the soprano line. I can hear the others fine. In Studio View it shows audio for the sopranos, but I can't hear them. Any ideas what's wr...

Create unique staff name

I want to create an SATB vocal score with a fifth staff at the top called "Child," or "Solo Child." How do I go about creating my own staff name?

Mini Score

I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to create partial scores midway through an orchestra piece, so I can have more than one system per page (juat few instruments playing at a time). I've been using Finale for ages, but I can't find the answer to this one.

Pipe organ dynamics

Why is there only one kind of organ in Finale? And why don't dynamics work on playback? (I did a search here first and didn't see anything helpful).

Can't hear clash cymbals

I gave the cymbals their own staff, their own channel, and wrote ffff as the dynamic. All I get is a barely audible suspended cymbal played with a cotton ball. How can I get a good, loud cymbal crash? Do I need to import something from Kontakt?

I've tried everything suggested online. All references to measure numbers are unchecked. But they won't go away. Any ideas?

Problems with ScoreMerge

I have tried and tried to merge four string quartet parts, but every time I do, many problems show up. Some of them very time consuming to fix, others unsolvable, like the one below. The cello part shows up with C clef staff at the top. When I try to delete the C clef staff by every method available...

Re: Please see my post under Playback Issues

You're right. I went back to the original file and found this: if I insert rit. before a slower tempo change exactly two measure later, the music slows down nicely. But if I insert another rit. after the tempo change, the first rit. doesn't work. See the example I attached. However, if I move the te...

Thanks for responding. It was just that one file that wasn't responding, so I wrote it again as a new file and it worked fine. I'll go ahead and delete these posts so I don't clutter up the forum. Thanks again.
