Re: Hiding a staff within a part

That's what I thought. How disappointing, but if it's the first time I've come across this problem in 25 years of Finale, I doubt it'll happen again.

Oh! Here you go:

Kind of ridiculous that an MUSX file is too large for this forum.

I'm looking at the guitar part.

Re: Hiding a staff within a part

Okay, is that staff style affecting multimeasure rests? How can I fix that?

Re: Hiding a staff within a part

Oh, perfect! Yeah, I thought it was within the staff attributes dialog rather than within a staff style. I'd never have guessed to go through the staff menu, anyway. Thanks!

Hiding a staff within a part

I'm working an arrangement where a guitar will be on a heavy colla voce with the vocal at the beginning, and I'd like to have the vocal staff at the beginning of the tune, and hide the staff at the point that the tempo kicks in. I can't find any way to do it on a linked part. It seems the "force hid...

Re: TGTools menu shortcut for ties

I should try, but after 15+ years of having the tie on the 0 key, I keep hitting that first, remembering it doesn't work, then using 't'. It's so hard-wired into my brain now, that changing it up, even if it works in the software, won't change my habit! Also, / is used quite a bit for beam breaks on...

Re: TGTools menu shortcut for ties

Hi Nick, Thank you for getting back to me. I wanted to take a moment to discuss your case. After some testing with the team we were able to replicate the behavior. I then spoke with our development team letting them know about the issue. Unfortunately, they said that while we do ship Finale with th...

Re: Laptop speakers vs. headphones

The only difference is I don't have ASIO option (which I can't imagine wouldn't be supported on this laptop, but it is kinda obsolete now), and DirectSound and WASAPI as options, but DirectSound is what it's currently set up as. I should experiment with WASAPI. As for the VST, I believe it's because...

Re: Laptop speakers vs. headphones

Turns out, as a matter of fact, the MIDI isn't working at all, period. The play bar is moving across like it's playing, but I guess the MS Wavetable isn't getting the information.

Re: Laptop speakers vs. headphones

Yeah, it likely has to do with this Dell...When I got it, it couldn't handle sound with more than one program at a time, which was useless to me because I typically work with a DAW and Finale at the same time. Dell tried to charge me because "audio issues aren't covered under warranty," which all it...

Re: Dotted rests still in quantization settings?

I'll try the next time it happens. But it's usually based on copy/paste like you said. It's just annoying that rests (or, in other cases that may or may not have been fixed in Finale, dotted notes) don't paste properly, even when "everything" as well as the full measure is supposed to be copied.

Re: Dotted rests still in quantization settings?

In my experience, it can also auto change to include dotted rests (or not) if you have to change rhythms in the measure again. Sometimes you really have to keep a sharp eye on it. Finale is complete enough that you can adjust/alter individual beams, but you can't dictate how certain rests auto-dot. ...

Dotted rests still in quantization settings?

That's still a strange place to hide that setting. Another annoying thing is we commonly prefer dotted eighth and sixteenth rests in simple meters, but not dotted half rests. It's annoying to have to go back and forth with that checkbox when it should not only be more robust, but shouldn't be embedd...

Laptop speakers vs. headphones

In just about every other program on my laptop, including DAWs, once I plug headphones into the laptop, it automatically switches over. I'm pretty sure that's been a thing with Finale 2014, as well. With 27, if it's open when I plug in my headphones, Finale doesn't switch over automatically, forcing...

Re: TGTools menu shortcut for ties

I actually just checked automatic spacing, and it works exactly how it worked 12 years ago. I'm pretty stoked about that! I also sent tech support a video of my menu shortcut bug. Hopefully they do fix it. I'm spending the morning trying to catch Finale in some older bugs that have been with Finale ...

Re: Staff Styles bug still not fixed?

Oh, that last measure is definitely how it works, because one of my first attempts to fix the problem was to copy the entire drum part and paste it in the part, in the hopes that the staff styles would copy over. They did not. I'll have to start experimenting. 99% of my work is typesetting classical...

Oh, so when I create a new file in Finale, it will automatically transfer the copied staff styles to the parts?

Staff Styles bug still not fixed?

Working on the linked parts to a job, and I was disappointed to bring up the drum set part and see that the staff styles didn't translate over to the part. Surely, they did something to fix this since 2012 (where I think the bug first showed its ugly head)?

From what I understand, breaking down an MP3 would be like unbaking a cake back to flour, butter, etc. The technology isn’t there.
Yep. Still best to use your own ears, and improve your own musicianship to boot.

I do, it just didn't work in 2014. I've yet to really start a score from scratch in 27, so it'll be interesting to see how work goes next week.

Re: TGTools menu shortcut for ties

Yep. QWERTY 0 (not the letter O or NUM pad 0) is what I use to enter/exit Speedy. I really just use it to update spacing if things are getting too illegible to continue, so I hit 0 to exit Speedy and respace notes, then hit 0 again to return to the measure in which I was working (though, I stopped u...
