Re: Finale 2012 running in Catalina

Only Finale v26 is fully compatible with macOS Catalina. And only v26.2 and later is fully compatible with macOS Catalina.

Re: Finale 26.3 released

"If Finale encounters a problem saving a document, a warning is displayed with suggestions for further action." That sounds like they've made an attempt to fix (or rather workaround) the old "can't-save because of temp-file" bug. Online help pages haven't been updated yet to list the full details. ...

Re: Creative use of Finale

Hi, as our colleague N Grossingink suggests, you need to export your file in vector format. PDF is OK. BTW, there is no "One button" option, believe me, if you work meticulously. For more than 26 years I haven't found proper plugin, that solves my creative ideas in an instant. Of course, there are ...

Re: Advice for Best Orchestra for Finale

I second Noteperformer. Not only are the sounds far better than most other sounds you can buy, but it dutifully also interprets the music as players do — automatically. It also accounts for stylistic variations. It will play a Mozart-like piece very different than it will play a Hollywood blockbuste...

Re: JW Plugins not working

I just updated to Catalina 10.15.4. The install was flawless. All previous plugins including Jari, TG and Patterson are running as always with no error messages. The "disappearing plugins" seem dependent on the exact architecture of your computer. No such issues at all with my equipment. It doesn't...

Re: Expression tool double click

Yeah, sometimes certain keys will "stick" virtually. Then when you use a tool with metatools like the expression tool, Finale thinks you're pressing down that button. One thing that has helped me is to use that metatool key in another program. For instance, if 2 was sticking (like in your case), I'd...

In the Staff Tool: Staff > Respace Staves.

Then you can select all staves to be 0.75 inches from each other for every page of the score.

Whatever works. I'm curious, though, where those playback notes came from. Normally, they're inserted right befor playback, then removed right after.
I've noticed that normally that's how it works. However, sometimes those playback notes persist even after playback stops.

Re: Catalina and Finale compatibility

There are really only two things you need to know about Catalina and Finale v26. First, Finale V26.2 is fully compatible with Catalina. Finale V26.1 has a few minor bugs as pointed out in this Finale Blog post. https://www.finalemusic.com/blog/finale-catalina-compatibility-update/ The update to Fina...

Re: Part Writing Question

So yeah, this is more of a music theory / composition topic. So for the future, it would be best to consult another forum or Facebook group for this. But for now, here are some thoughts. 1. All your NCT are correctly labeled, though a few chords are labeled/written incorrectly. For instance, your VI...

Re: ties to a chord

You can use the Tie Tool under the special tools.

So first with either speedy or simple entry, create normal ties on every note. Then, using the Tie Tool, you can visually extend the ties to the second chord.

Re: Quickly see Tempo

As far as I know, there isn't a way to find the current temp—though you could just playback another couple measures. It would be handy to just display the current tempo. Also, because you're working with longer files, you might wish to try out the Bookmarks feature in Finale. View > Bookmarks. Docs:...

Re: SATB score

I'll be honest, I don't fully understand what you mean by "naked SATB score," but that's probably because I don't do much with choral music. With that said, you can edit the document once it's created even though you're getting SABB. 1. Go to Window > Score Manager (CTRL K) 2. Click on the instrumen...

Re: Saving time signatures?

This thread has been active today! I haven't tested any of the ideas here, but the KM macro looks intriguing. I do know with Lua that if you can save the music clipboard, creating a multiple copy/paste solution is not going to be elegant. Since there's no way to internally store data between each ti...

Re: Tie from 'Nowhere'

Simple Entry is correct. T is to tie to the next note, Shift-T to the previous. This also works when you have ties into a second ending. It even plays back correctly! Nick, are you doing it at the beginning of a staff? It doesn’t work mid-staff. Yep, I've tried it both at the beginning of a staff a...

Re: Tie from 'Nowhere'

I was able to do it by selecting the first note and Shift-T. Shift-T? What tool are you on? That's likely simple entry or speedy entry. Shift-T is the command to tie into a note. On my computer, though, that shortcut doesn't work unless there's a valid note to tie from. Maybe that's just me? Also, ...

Re: Different Clefs for Different Layers

Does the scale come after the sustained whole notes (or before)? If so, then you can do a mid-measure clef change. Using the clef tool, just highlight the part of the music in the new clef and hit enter. Then, click the desired clef. The result will look something like this. Screen Shot 2020-04-03 a...

Re: Tie from 'Nowhere'

Though there may be a way to create the tie using the tie tool, I've found it's easiest to use articulations for moments like these. Here's a video I made that details the process for 2nd ending repeats (it's the same process for you, though): https://youtu.be/tZ42nqAEmB4

I am familiar with metatools, but I've never seen them used that way. I will definitely play around with that a lot more. After just a minute of going through those, I can see how useful they can be.

Saving time signatures?

Hi Everyone, So I'm working on a piece that often switches between 2/2 and 3/2. 3/2 is not a default time signature, but it's easy enough to create. With that said, I need to keep remaking the 3/2 time signature between every time. Is there a way to save time signatures? If not, then I'll probably g...

That's very readable and clear, but the staff takes up too much vertical space for my application.
Everyone's taste is different. I personally prefer clarity, but I can see the reasons for economic use of space as well.

Re: Space between rehearsal marks and measure numbers

There are a couple ways to "solve" the space between rehearsal marks and measure numbers. As far as I know, there aren't any elegant solutions, though. 1) Use the Perfect Layout plugin (https://elbsound.studio/perfect-layout/) I personally use it and it's great. 2) Create your own Lua script or KM m...

Do you know if it's possible to have both the Italian version and English version of Finale loaded on one computer at the same time?

Thanks,
