Re: Problem with pdf conversion
Sorry, although the print dialog box offers quite a number of options it does not offer custom settings.

Re: Problem with pdf conversion
I was using the path File/Export/Pdf. Then I just tried instead the path Graphics/Export/Pdf but the result was the same. When I try to use the print feature, I don't see any way to change the page size to a custom value. The publisher tried to export my Finale file to pdf, and the text in the text ...

Problem with pdf conversion
I am creating a book featuring pieces in banjo tablature. I have a blurb for each piece inserted via a text box between title and notation. When I convert finale files to pdfs, however, the last couple of words of the blurb relocate and create an extra line. I am guessing this is because the finale ...

Re: Problem with adding new measures or re-spacing measures
Yes, this does the trick!! Thanks!
The odd thing is that I have no recollection of ever changing these settings (and in fact had never specifically accessed the Score dialog box in the Document menu). The problem simply sprang up one day and persisted.

Re: Problem with adding new measures or re-spacing measures
Folks. Sorry, I had to put the project aside for a while. At your suggestion I'm attaching a file where the problem occurs. It's fine now, but if I want to add a measure, it shows up in the middle of a newly created second page. This problem suddenly cropped up on many files after after reducing the...

Re: Problem with adding new measures or re-spacing measures
It does not help to use redefine pages; it makes all the staff systems jump to a spacing of two or three inches apart.

Problem with adding new measures or re-spacing measures
I've just started running into this editing problem working with banjo tablature., and I wonder if there is a setting that I have inadvertently clicked on that is causing this. Anyway, here's what's happening. When I change the appearance of the piece in such a way that additional lines of staff are...

Does this Style of Double-Chord Notation Work?
I am writing a banjo tab book that focuses on fiddle tune arrangements. There are many occasions where the fiddle plays a tune say in D, but the banjo setting is in C (with the instruction to "capo-2"). The issue is how to show alternative chords above the staff. I had originally been advised to use...

How Can I Get G(A) or C(D) Automatically for Capo'd Chords?
I am trying to indicate alternative chords above a staff of banjo tablature. The fiddle key might be say, D, but the tune would be notated in a C-based tuning. The way I would like to show the chord notation, would be having C-based chord outside the parens and the capo'd chord (equivalent to the fi...

Re: Getting Finale to substitute new names for common chords
Check that - there was nothing wrong with the feature entering chords via midi. I had unplugged the midi cables earlier today and forgot to reconnect. . .

Re: Getting Finale to substitute new names for common chords
We're on the right track but three issues: - I want to be able to play the chords in through Midi input. This method seems to have diabled that feature. - I would like the chords to appear like this: G(A) or A(G), rather than right on top of each other. Is there a way to have it come out like that. ...

Getting Finale to substitute new names for common chords
I'm writing a book devoted banjo tablature. Quite often tunes are arranged in C or G that are meant to be capoed up to D and A, respectively. The publisher wants chord symbols for accompaniment included. How can I get Finale to indicate something like G(A) or D(E) every time I play a G or D chord on...

Is there a symbol above a staff to Indicate "Hollow" Fifths?
I am writing a book of banjo tablature devoted to Appalachian fiddle tunes, and I am including chord symbols above the staff (but NOT chord diagrams). When it comes to "modal" tunes I would often prefer that the reader should simply use "hollow fifths" as a tonic instead of a major or minor triad. F...

Re: Creating Fingering Diagrams
This doesn't seem to be helpful. If I uncheck that box all diagrams go away (which can also be achieved by simply unchecking the show FRetboard item on the Chord Menu). What I need is to make diagrams go away selectively .. .

Creating Fingering Diagrams
I am working on a 5-string banjo project in tablature. I am trying to create fingering diagrams to locate below a piece (referring to them with typographical symbols such as * etc.). I found how I can modify the guitar chord diagram feature to create a banjo diagram with custom fingering, and even h...

Your recommendation was very plausible, but unfortunately did not do the trick. Is it possible what I have on my hands is simply a corrupt template?

It took a while to find where the midi through setting was, but in any event it's as follows:
-the box for "smart" is checked
- Fixed channel 1

Re: Tab Conversion thru Speedy Note Entry Not working Right
To Zull
They don't seem to offer a banjo sound option, so I picked fiddle (given that these are fiddle tunes). I thought I had chosen the down octave for the sample file. I'll check. But in any event this bunching up of everything on the first string seems to happen fairly consistently.

Re: Tab Conversion thru Speedy Note Entry Not working Right
Here are two posts - the first is a completed tablature entry (where I moved the notes to the right string locations with a mouse), and the second is a sample showing how the entries for the first few measures are positioned via simple note entry. I neglected to mention in my original post, that Fin...

Tab Conversion thru Speedy Note Entry Not working Right
I am working on a tablature-only project for 5-string banjo (Version 2014, Windows). I have defined a 5-string instrument in the tuning gCGCD using the fretted instrument dialog box, and was able to enter tab with the Speedy Note Entry Tool just fine a few months ago when I was creating a sample. No...
