Re: Manually re-spacing staves within a system by dragging
I'm not familiar with that feature. I tried it with Finale 2011, and couldn't get it to work. Is this what you're doing? I realized a mistake in one part of my description in my previous post. The method I described, was what worked in Finale 25, if I am remembering correctly. To get the same thing...

Re: Manually re-spacing staves within a system by dragging
Hello, I have tried the suggestion that the Original Poster has accepted as the solution, but, unless I am following the instructions incorrectly, the solution does not work on Finale 26.3.1.520 for Windows. My question is: did Finale(MakeMusic) remove this functionality from Finale? In Finale 2012 ...

Re: Muted playback until I reset it
There is one way to at least back up the custom settings you have, in case they get lost in the future. You can save a file of sounds for each of the banks of the Aria Player and then reload them if they go mute next time. Not an ideal situation, but a time saver. Zuill Thanks! It took some clickin...

Re: Popping sound in playback when I have Finale open for 5 minutes
Update: I did a bunch of testing with jumbled results. I don't really know what to conclude with this. Below is a bunch of information. When I changed the string voices (Violins, Violas, Cellos, etc.) from "[Instruments] Lush Mutes" to "[Instruments] KS" -- that completely got rid of the clicking no...

Re: Popping sound in playback when I have Finale open for 5 minutes
Direct Sound or ASIO? What is the sample rate? What is the buffer size? Zuill P.S.: No problems on v25 and v26. However, I don't have GPO. Just GIfF. On Windows. I'm not sure, but I believe I was using "Direct Sound". I looked in the "Sound" settings of the Control Panel, and in the "Audio" setting...

Popping sound in playback when I have Finale open for 5 minutes
Hi, I am on Finale 25 on Windows 10, and I got a new laptop about 1-2 weeks ago. On my old laptop, I also had Finale 25 on Windows 10. The main sound library I use is Garritan Personal Orchestra 5. This is also the main library I had on my old laptop. I'm working on some music for strings and piano ...

Re: Muted playback until I reset it
"Reassign playback sounds" does load Garritan Personal Orchestra to where the staves will play back, but doing so will re-assign all the voices to the default voices for those instruments, which in this case won't work, because I am wanting to use "Violins 1 Lush Mutes", "Violas Lush Mutes", etc., i...

Re: Muted playback until I reset it
Thank you for the offer of help. Unfortunately, this problem is only occurring with Garritan Personal Orchestra 5. When I save a file and the voices are from Garritan Instruments for Finale, or from SmartMusic SoftSynth, then I close and re-open the file, the playback works fine. So this problem is ...

Muted playback until I reset it
Hi, I am encountering a strange problem regarding Finale playback. I'll have to provide a bit of background. I got a new laptop a few days ago. I have installed Finale 25 on it. I had Finale 25 on my old laptop as well. I am on Finale 25, on Windows 10. The sound libraries I have are Garritan Person...

Staff Spacing
I am creating final parts for a piece I am writing. I am trying to optimize the parts to facilitate page turns. Therefore I am spacing staves manually. The only problem I am encountering is the following: When I want to move a single staff onto the next page, I try to do so by dragging the staff dow...

Re: Create Recurring Text Block
Thanks! I got it to work, thanks to your replies. A note to anyone who may be searching in these forums and find this topic - you need to create a new text block, then after creating it, select it, right-click, and select "Edit frame attributes", and then you'll see the dialog that Peter Thomsen pos...

Re: Cause Score To Show Written C Major For All Instruments
Oh ---- I just solved the problem. After I posted this, I searched online for 5 seconds and found a page which reminded me of one aspect I was forgetting. I need to go into ScoreManager, select the instrument, and change the transposition from "Up M2, add 2 sharps", to "Chromatic - Up M2". That solv...

Cause Score To Show Written C Major For All Instruments
Edit - solved. See my reply post below this one... I have a Finale file in Finale 25. It is a score which is 10 pages long and has 10 different instruments. I created this score in Finale 25 as a brand new score (several weeks ago). After I created this new file, I opened up the old Finale file for ...

Create Recurring Text Block
Is there a way to create a recurring text block? I am working in the score and I want to create an insert of my website address on every page, and I would prefer not to have to add it (and position it individually) as an individual text block on each page. Is there a way to add a new recurring text ...

Ritard is not working only in specific measures
When I add "rit." to specific measures in my piece, it does nothing. But if I add "rit." to other places in the piece, it works. For example, if I put a "rit." in measure 3, it works, and continues to slow down. But if I get rid of that "rit." and instead add a "rit." in measure 5, or measure 6, it ...

Is there an Android app that can read .mus or .musx files?
Hello, This is more of a question than a "wishlist" item, but there isn't really another subforum that's more appropriate for this question. Is there an Android app that has the capability of reading .mus files and .musx files? Or, is there an Android app which would allow some sort of workaround (l...

Re: Particular Measure on Particular Staff Won't Play Above
Win 10, Finale 26 I read this with interest because I have exactly the same problem in a piece I am working on now. String Quartet, everybody playing p, nothing unusual, very simple music, but all of a sudden in 2 measures the sound drops out of the viola. As if the dynamic had changed to pppp. Sti...

Re: Particular Measure on Particular Staff Won't Play Above
the reason you might not notice a difference when you insert a ffff marking is that it might not have playback defined. remember that MIDI volume goes from 0 to 127. you can't go higher. Aha! Then that answers why that was happening. (The trumpet staves were set to 127 (by me) when I was using Smar...

Re: Particular Measure on Particular Staff Won't Play Above
Sorry. I don't hear a click. When I take out the ffff, it sounds the same level as the prior measures. I'm testing in Finale 26. Zuill P.S.: I tested in v25 and still it seems to behave properly without a click, and, after removing the ffff, plays without dropping in volume. Thanks for the testing ...

Re: Particular Measure on Particular Staff Won't Play Above
Hard to say without seeing a file. Often there can be things that are hidden. There might be MIDI data, for example. Was this file created freshly in Finale, or imported from a MIDI file or XML file? Zuill Thanks for the response - attached is the Finale file for testing/diagnostics. This file was ...

Particular Measure on Particular Staff Won't Play Above mf
I have a staff that seems to get quieter around the 3rd measure of playback. So I added a "ffff" to that particular measure on that particular staff. That didn't do anything. This particular measure won't play back louder than mezzo-forte. When I add the "ffff" to that measure and it plays back, it ...

GPO5 Suspended Cymbal Roll starts loudly no matter what
I am in Finale 25, on Windows 10. I am using Garritan Personal Orchestra 5. I have a document with 17 staves of brass instruments, 3 staves of percussion, 1 staff of timpani, 1 staff of glockenspiel, and 1 staff of violin. On one of my percussion staves (using Garritan Personal Orchestra), I have a ...

Re: Magnus Choir - Finale 25
At the same time that I posted this post, I also contacted Syntheway support (i.e. Magnus Choir support) and fortunately got this response (which echoes Bill's comment that the plug-in needs to be 64-bit): Since you are using Finale for Windows version 25, it only 64 bit and supports VST 64 bit (x64...

Magnus Choir - Finale 25
Hello, Is Magnus Choir compatible with Finale 25? I have Finale 25 now, and I used to have Finale 2012, in which I got Magnus Choir to work. Now, in Finale 25, I cannot seem to get Magnus Choir to even be recognized by Finale. I added the directory which has the plugin (the .dll file), and clicked "...

Playback Inconsistency
Hello, I am running into a playback problem. I am using Finale 25 for Windows. I use Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 for my playback. I am writing a piece for cello and piano. The playback was fine for a while. Now it's not. From the very beginning of the piece, it's as if the "cello player" added som...
