Re: Problem with Beam Stubs
Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'm saving them all to a file for future reference. Somehow I stumbled onto an acceptable solution while playing around with the beaming tools: StubSolve.jpg It breaks the 16th beam after the second note, but it's an acceptable way of notating it and it puts all t...

Problem with Beam Stubs
Finale 2009 Mac OS 11.2.3 I've got a beamed figure and Finale puts the first 32nd-note stub on the wrong side of the stem. (Fig. 1) Stub1.jpg I figured out how to flip it, but now I'm missing the 16th-note stub on the other side of the stem. (Fig. 2) Stub2.jpg Is there a way to extend the 16th-note ...

Re: How to Do a Glissando Shape With a Tapering End
Thanks. Yes, I'd tried to use that designer before and gave up because I couldn't get it to work right. I found a YouTube video that seems to explain things better so maybe I'll have some success now.

How to Do a Glissando Shape With a Tapering End
Anyone have any idea how to create glissandi that start with a fat line and taper down to a thin line, like in linked examples? Using Finale 2009 on a Mac. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ggzjfoq9jed768/Taper1.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/2s3gxn3kfx1c1z7/Taper2.jpg?dl=0 (Sorry for the links, but th...

Re: Bell Question
I think it says "Erotic Bells". I googled that and wish I hadn't. ::: Bill I had't thought of that possibility but probably not. The piece is a cue from INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE. Erotic bells are not exactly something I'd expect to find in a John Williams score. I guess it's going to rema...

Re: Bell Question
Ha! No, the talking drum I got. Another instrument I'd never heard of before-- but it's real:

Bell Question
I'm engraving from a handwritten score and have come across a notation for what seems to be a kind of orchestral bell but the handwriting is unclear and I've done Google searches on what it seems like it might be with no results. Just wondering if anyone here recognizes what it might be. Looks like ...

Re: Page Size Randomly Changed
Interesting. So now I know where the source of the problem is and how to stop it, so thanks for that, but it doesn't explain why it started happening in the first place. I didn't change any of the settings in the Page Format box, so I have no idea why Finale just started adding different-sized pages...

Page Size Randomly Changed
Using Finale 2009 for Mac. While working on a document, Finale abruptly started changing all new pages added to the end of the document to an entirely different size than the one I set the document up for and I can't figure out a way to change them back to the proper size. See screen shot: https://w...

Re: Gliss Tuplet with Horizontal Beam Stubs
I can think of a couple of ways to do it, both a fair amount of trouble. In the first one, I made it a tuplet of 5 32nds in the space of one quarter and added the 18 as an expression. In the second, I made two eighth notes, added the secondary beams with the SmartShape tool, and again created the 1...

Gliss Tuplet with Horizontal Beam Stubs
I can't figure out how to create the below chromatic gliss/tuplet figure with horizontal 16th and 32nd beam stubs in Finale 2009.
Is it possible to do so, or is a later version of Finale needed for something like this?

Re: Tuplet over Systems / bar lines
I don't think so. You might have to fake it with hidden time signatures and expression barlines. (Yes, I know that mathematically, that barline should be right through the middle of the triplet. But that looks bad, to my eye.) So if you're working in score format, not just one line/instrument, all ...
