Re: overlap instability
Here's a notation I made regarding overlapping, which I'd like to share: Prefs/edit/auto music spacing uncheck. It seems easier for me. Thanks to all for the replies. On the attached page I'm trying to get some stability in the positioning, meas.3, top layer. Whenever I drag the first note (G, dotte...

Re: overlap instability
Thanks. You have to download it here : http://www.finaletips.nu/index.php/download/category/44-64-bit-mac-plug-ins Unzip the file and place the jwstaffpolyphony64.bundle file in your plug-ins folder. Finder : Go ► Computer Then : "Your disk" ► Library ► Application Support ► MakeMusic ► Finale 26 ► ...

Re: overlap instability
Sorry, I must be blind but I don't see JW as one of the plugins nor do I see it anywhere. A solution would be to swap the layers. I used the JW Staff Polyphony plug-in -> Layers -> Swap (1 & 2) and got the result shown in the first image (except for the red tie). This places the whole note to the le...

overlap instability
On the attached page I'm trying to get some stability in the positioning, meas.3, top layer. Whenever I drag the first note (G, dotted quarter) to the right, and the whole note G (lower layer) to the left so that the dot is visible, it reverts back to the appearance you can see here, and the dot is ...

Re: spacing
Some good points. Thanks for taking the time to respond. The spacing here is fine, the spacing of those quarter notes has expanded due to the influence of smaller note values. Spacing.jpeg Also, since we're talking about spacing, in notation software, once you activate the option to prevent ledger l...

Re: spacing
Tried it. Spacing is still uneven.

spacing
In the attached piece, the quarter note spacing in the left hand looks pretty good until the last two lines (meas.9 onward), especially the last line, where the quarter notes are not spaced evenly. Any suggestions on how I could fix this, while maintaining the overall layout? (meaning: first 2 lines...

Re: complex meter
I also found a bug, in that when I tried copy/paste it didn't work. Independent time signatures have a bug when drawing hairpins. What are the other limitations, Peter? Can you say more about "This solution works best where the ‘primary’ time signature (= 6/8) is bigger than the ‘independent’ time s...

Thanks.
Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 8:30 amHere are two different solutions.
The first solution is more time consuming, but it is versatile, universal; you can do anything.
The second solution is faster, but it has limitations.

complex meter
In the attached example it shows 6/8 meter but I'd like the bass clef in this example to be 2/4 while the treble clef remains 6/8. Meas.13 gives an approximate idea of what it should look like, except the LH would be four eighth notes, no triplet bracket. In the example, the LH meas.1-8 is written w...

format question
I'm a bit confused about the difference between format for score versus part. I've always figured that the score pages should be longer vertically than a part. On the attached, I used Page format/score A4, File menu (same), Redefine pages /all. But for a score page, I used the exact same settings. O...

Re: score merge
I am putting together a baroque-style 10-movement chamber work. In order to avoid headaches (including my own), I want to keep the instrument parts as separate files with separate page numbers for each movement, keeping in mind easy page turns, and making one pdf from all of it. To me, the ease of p...

score merge
I've been trying out the Score Merge (merging several movements of an orch. score) and have found quite a bit of gobbledy-gook in the result. For example a cello line appears in wrong octave or systems get skwunshed together. The separate movements look fine. Wondering if anyone else has had this pr...

Re: simple but baffled
Ditto from me. See my comment above to John R. In case it makes you feel any better, musicus,I used to have to painfully "figure out" page numbering in Finale every time I did it, which was fortunately infrequent, because page numbers were included in my main template. Way over-complicated and uncle...

Re: simple but baffled
Indeed, that does make me feel a bit better. As if Mozart or any great composer would present a new score to an orchestra and they would hesitate to consider it because of the page numbering. And yet the "guidelines" from different souces tell us these things. Take books, for example. I have yet to ...

I just tried it - it doesn't work. It places subsequent pages only in the middle. (I started by putting the text box bottom middle.)

Re: simple but baffled
Still no-go. I created the text block this way: I double-clicked the upper L space (see attached), then went up to the text menu, insert/ page number, and that puts in “1.” Then "frame attributes / ALL pages. Good so far. But still can't figure out your instruction for different positioning on right...

Re: simple but baffled
The piece begins with page 1 upper Left. I doubleclick text box, text insert page number - and “1” appears - but only on pg. 1. At that point (to get R pages) I am unclear what "rinse and repeat" means. Text Tool > Double click where you want the number > then Text > Insert > Page Numbers Then Text ...
