Re: Mark Up a Score?
I also created a key command to launch the annotations script: Go to System Preferences… Keyboard… Shortcuts… App Shortcuts… Click the + to create a shortcut for Finale using this menu title: Plug-ins->Lua->Créer des annotations/Add annotations I used the key command Control-Option-Command-A to laun...

Re: Mark Up a Score?
There is a JW/RGP Lua script written by "Chris" that puts post-it style notes into Finale - printing or non-printing. There are a few other options as well. They appear as measure attached shape expressions. It is on the French Finale site. You need to register/log-in to download the scripts. Also ...

Very interesting—please tell me how. (I searched his site and couldn't find the post you reference… sorry.)blueshift wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 10:48 pmTim Davies says on his https://www.timusic.net/debreved/ blog that he leaves invisible (non printing, visible on screen) text comments all over his scores (and so do I, in 36 pt impact).

Re: Mark Up a Score?
Yep… that may be the best way. And—by doing it as an expression—it stays attached to the measure. I would use a Measure-attached text box. In Preferences > Display Colors, set the color of these to bright red or whatever you like. Go to the Text Tool menu and switch to "Measure Attached" and set th...

Re: Mark Up a Score?
How do you envision making the marks? One can add expressions, text blocks, etc., but it looks like what you want would be better done on a tablet with a stylus, probably with a program that allows you to mark up a PDF file. Yes… I'd thought of that, but—as I'm working on an arrangement—it would be...

Re: Control Tuplet bracket Position
If it's the norm in jazz notation, it's correct. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "if it's the norm, it's correct"… but your point is well taken. Does jazz have an Elaine Gould? If not, it needs one. No doubt. Darcy James Argue (www.darcyjamesargue.com) may be the closest thing to an Elaine Gou...

Mark Up a Score?
Hi folks.......
Does anyone know if there's a way to mark-up a score within Finale? I'm wanting to be able to make notations like those depicted in this article.
Thanks.

Ahhh… great trick to enter the A and drag it up. Thanks very much!N Grossingink wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 4:38 pmThe blue B is in a different layer. Enter it in Layer 1 and the dots on the Bs will consolidate - that's all you really need. Hint: enter an A and drag or up arrow it to the B line.

Guitar Notation—Doubled Notes
Hi folks.......
I'm wondering if there's a better way of notating doubled notes, as in the 4th full bar of this example:
With the added dots, it gets pretty messy, though I could change it rhythmically to a dotted quarter tied to a half note.

Re: Guitar Notation—Is there a better way?
Thanks, Peter. I was conflicted about making sure that I was representing that all 4 of those notes (the three half notes + the eighth note) all get played together vs. what you observed—that it's all a little too smashed together.

Re: Control Tuplet bracket Position
And it would be better to show the tuplet in question as two eighth rests and an eighth note rather than a quarter rest and eighth note. (See E. Gould Behind Bars , page 211.) Thanks, John—I definitely need to get that book. In the context of a jazz piece (which this is, though I realize now that c...

Re: Control Tuplet bracket Position
I think changing Document Options/Tuplets only affects future tuplets, not those already entered. Double-click on the 3 and a handle should appear. Right-click on that and pick Edit Tuplet Definition. But I think the bracket would look better below, in which case there's no reason to avoid the staf...

Control Tuplet bracket Position
Hi....... I need to place a tuplet over the notes below the staff (the broken triplet to a low G in layer 2). I turned off the "avoid staff" button in Document Options->Tuplets, but it still insists on appearing either above or below the staff (see examples). It appears that I might be able to get t...

Changing Meter
Hi folks….. I’ve nearly finished an arrangement for a client that I wrote in 12/8. Now they’d like to see it in 6/8. When I change meter and rebar, the music works fine, but that repeat sign I had in bar 20 stays in bar 20 when I need it to "stick" to the music and slide down to bar 40. Is there any...

Change the point size of select Chord Symbols?
Hi........ I've been doing master rhythm charts for a client for years. They like relatively large chord symbols (16pt) because the players like them at that size. However, on this chart (see attached), I'm having a heckuva time fitting them in. I've tried moving the eighth notes to open up more spa...

OK—but how do I hide the *actual* meter change, so I don't have TWO meter indications appearing on either side of the bar?N Grossingink wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 7:08 pmNo, the meter will stay the same. The time signature itself will be hidden.wouldn't that negate the actual meter change?

Meter Changes and Repeat Signs
Hey folks...... I am writing some "Master Rhythm" charts for a jazz/funk group. One tune is in multiple meters and—while it may not be standard practice— it seems to me that, on a repeat, it would read better to the players if the meter change was written in * after * the repeat sign (see attached)—...
