The blue B is in a different layer. Enter it in Layer 1 and the dots on the Bs will consolidate - that's all you really need. Hint: enter an A and drag or up arrow it to the B line.

I'm wondering if there's a better way of notating doubled notes, as in the 4th full bar of this example:
With the added dots, it gets pretty messy, though I could change it rhythmically to a dotted quarter tied to a half note.

Thanks, Peter. I was conflicted about making sure that I was representing that all 4 of those notes (the three half notes + the eighth note) all get played together vs. what you observed—that it's all a little too smashed together.

I think it was because I changed tuplet settings in Doc Options *after* I created the tuplet (as you yourself noted).

I think changing Document Options/Tuplets only affects future tuplets, not those already entered. Double-click on the 3 and a handle should appear. Right-click on that and pick Edit Tuplet Definition. But I think the bracket would look better below, in which case there's no reason to avoid the staf...
