Re: Performance problems/painstakingly slow
Wondering whether a solution was eventually found for this problem posted a couple years ago. It sounds similar to the issue I'm having (https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21721 , which no one's replied to :( ). MakeMusic support hasn't been able to find an answer, and reports that conv...

Smart shape stack overflow?
Working on a new piece, and Finale is running slower and slower, beachballing on every mouse click. I have a feeling this is being caused by the large number glissandi-to-nowhere -- that is, glissandi attached to a starting note but not to an end note -- because this is the only unusual thing I'm do...

Re: NotePerformer
Reading this thread with interest because I've also been on the verge of trying NP, but not feeling optimistic given what I'm seeing. I noticed in NP's own demos that eighth notes not marked slurred were being played short. Not looking forward to having to mark every dang eighth note legato to avoid...

Sorry but that's too brief to be helpful. Set it where? And after or before doing what?

Tempo marking font sizes
Anybody know if it's possible to set a different global font size for tempo markings in score and parts, before generating parts? The default is too small for the score, too large for the parts.
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks,

Re: Staff order scrambled in page view
Thanks motet, that seems to have done the trick. Fortunately, the reorder tool kept a memory of the correct ordering so in the end it was just a simple matter of select all, reorder staves, OK.

Staff order scrambled in page view
Hi Forum, I'm formatting a big score for the first time, and I've been experimenting with hiding staves, page size, and magnification. After a few trial-and-error cycles, I'm seeing that the staff ordering in page view has gone all wrong. Thank goodness it's still correct in scroll view, but in page...

Re: Beamed notes and tuplets inside an expression
Thanks for the pointer in the right direction, motet. Once I found the manual page on Maestro font and the symbol table for Maestro Times, it was easy. For anybody else having trouble with this (and not wanting to spend another $10), I'll just note that the key to making Maestro Times do what you wa...

Beamed notes and tuplets inside an expression
You know that pre-loaded entry in the Expression Tool Tempo Marks menu that says "Swing! [two eighths] = [quarter+eights triplet]"? How did they get the beamed eighths and the triplet in there? I need an expression that shows four beamed sixteenth notes, and another that shows 3 beamed eighth-note t...

Re: Single-line percussion staff, 2 instruments
Aha - got it. There's a second step, after editing the Percussion Layout had to use the Transpose Percussion Instruments utility to assign the now-unknown notes to the right instruments, following which they are in the right place.

Re: Single-line percussion staff, 2 instruments
Thanks; I can see how this ought to work, but unfortunately it didn't. No effect on the notes. Maybe it's relevant that all of my noteheads are being displayed as orange?

Single-line percussion staff, 2 instruments
I've got a percussion part notated on a single line staff for the person who will be playing claves and tambourine. By default, the tambourine notes appear in the space just above the line, and the claves one space above that, with a ledger line. How can I change this so the claves are on the space ...

Re: Making Personal Orchestra sound like Real Orchestra
There is substantial detail in the GPO5 files but it's beyond the processing power of my quad-core machine to render it inside Finale. I export tracks or groups of tracks as aiffs and finesse the mix in a DAW (Cubase Elements is sufficient). What is interesting is the difference in, say, the string...

Making Personal Orchestra sound like Real Orchestra
Well, I think I've managed to create an adequate demo version of my new orchestral piece using GPO5, after lots of fussing with the Aria equalizers. But I'm not really satisfied with the tone quality and balance of some sections. If any of you experienced hands are willing to give it a listen and le...

Re: Glissando plays back incorrectly
I didn't download your example to study, but when I had a similar problem a while back the solution was to use the MIDI tool to manually set the pitch wheel to zero after the previous glissando.

Re: Making sense of the Controls in ARIA PLayer
The controllers you have access to depend on the instrument, as you've probably found. But for the ones that are usually present, yes, "portamento" controls sliding between notes. Because slides and glissandi often sound bizarre (IMO), and you generally don't want an instrument sliding between every...

Re: Layer playback
I'm adding this question to this thread, but layer playback is just part of the problem with my French horns. First, Human Playback decided that it was time to interpret "marcato" as "mute". I had to take out all the marcati and mark the horn parts "open". That got rid of the mutes but I lost the ar...

Re: Untuned metal percussion
Thanks, good suggestion. As it turned out I was able to put together an acceptable solution using a combination of tubular bells, vibraphone, and damped triangle. But I'll keep Virtual Drumline in mind for the future.

Untuned metal percussion
Can anybody suggest a good, inexpensive, and easy-to-use source of untuned metal percussion sounds to use in Finale? I need a loud metallic "kang!" sound (like a big steel plate hit with a hammer) in one single spot, and I'd rather not pay $699 for a deluxe professional percussion library if I can a...

Re: MIDI tool not scaling correctly
I was having a similar problem recently, and the useful advice I received was to never use the MIDI tool visualizer. Select the bars you want to edit in the score display and then use the MIDI tool pulldowns. The discussion is here: https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19906 Good luck, Tom

Re: Pitch Bend/Glissando/Etc.
Problem solved. Interestingly, clearing the MIDI continuous data did NOT work, but explicitly choosing the pitchwheel in the MIDI tool continuous data dialog box and then doing a "set to" zero did.

Re: Dynamic control in HP+GPO5
Thanks David, that helped... although it took multiple tries and fighting with the HP settings. Eventually I did get the modulation scale that I wanted. But too bad that the answer is "Don't even try to use that tool, everybody knows it doesn't work!" Given that one can't rely on the MIDI tool's gra...

Re: Pitch Bend/Glissando/Etc.
"Clear selected items / MIDI data" feels like a pretty blunt instrument and I don't want to clear ALL of the MIDI data. If I select the trombone part, will it do the right thing and remove only THAT MIDI data and leave the other instruments alone?

Re: Pitch Bend/Glissando/Etc.
Hi All, On a related note, I put a few glissandi in the 1st trombone part, then changed my mind and took them out... and now the 1st trombone is playing a half-step high for the entire piece, start to finish! Yikes! Closing the file and re-opening didn't help; quitting Finale and restarting didn't h...
