Re: Staff Labels lost

Peter: Thank you for such a complete review of staff label controls. I will check all of them out today. I did fall behind in my profile description. I am on Finale 27.4.1.110 and have updated that. Does that change any of your suggestions? I was able to recover the "missing", actually, not "seen" l...

Re: Staff Labels lost

Time is a great teacher. I did figure out how to "see" the label data in the text boxes for Staff Labels. As first discussed, labels are gone. Under the Staff Tool, right click on the handle for your label and select Edit Full Staff Name (or whatever label you are editing). A text box appears and is...

Staff Labels lost

Not sure when this happened, but at some point in editing and saving a score, all of the staff labels were lost or deleted. Tried to recreate them using both the Score Manager and the Staff Tool. I can get the text box but it is empty and no matter what I try I cannot get access to the box to enter ...

Re: Problem to write arpeggio symbols

I did check center horizontally. See screenshot. Arpeggio settings without acidentals.JPG Repeated the process setting Document Options to EVUs, created 2 new arpeggio articulations using your numbers and reassigned them using the meta tool process to the appropriate half note sets, with and without...

Re: Problem to write arpeggio symbols

Thank you Motet for your teaching. I did discover the Document Options/Avoid Collision of articulations and checked this box and checked it as well as chords and all note heads without resolving the arpeggio over accidentals or crowding the prior notes. I duplicated the arpeggio symbol and created t...

Re: Problem to write arpeggio symbols

Is there any way to elegantly space the arpeggio symbol with surrounding encroaching notes (and rests)? I have been using the --> Edit Beat Chart to move things around for the occasional arpeggio, but I have a jazz chart where the guitar and piano have many arpeggios and it asks for a simpler proces...

N.C. Chord designation ??

Working on a jazz chart and most things arr going well. But as I was changing chord fonts from Broadway to Finale Jazz Lowercase, a few of my chords must have gotten damaged based on the results I am getting now. I am using Finale 27.4.1.110, the latest downloadable version, the Chord font profile u...

Percussion Part line spacing after extraction

I haven't been able to find a discussion on this topic exactly. Here's my process. Wrote a score percussion staff of Triangle, Crash Cymbals and Bass Drum. Used Score Manager Percussion Settings, Select (Basic Orchestral Percussion)- Edit to assign staff lines to these 3 parts; Triangle 12, Crash (A...

Re: Expressions Playback, can you go beyond MIDI 1:1-16?

Having read the 2011 post to its entire length, there is a better way to tacit first time. In Expression Playback use Transposition rather than Channel function to silence the instrument voice. By setting Transposition to 125 or higher, and select Play only on pass 1, you can then set Transposition ...

Expressions Playback, can you go beyond MIDI 1:1-16?

This topic addresses creating a tacit for instruments on first time through, then bringing them back to play second time. I am currently using the Expressions Playback. I have a large concert band piece where I want the lower brass to tacit first time through the last section. I achieved this by cre...

Re: Trill assigned by neighoring instrument

One more aspect just learned. The unwanted bassoon trill only occurs when I mute the clarinet. It is as though the trill assigned to the clarinet slides up to the bassoon when clarinet is muted. Tried clearing all MIDI info with Edit-Clear Selected Items-MIDI data, no luck. Regardless of the distanc...

Re: Trill assigned by neighoring instrument

Motet: Thanks for the idea but I couldn't get it to work. After entering the MIDI Tool Apply Human Playback Selection menu, even with highlighting the measures I hoped to change, the Bassoon part still trills with the 1st Clarinet part. I am late to return to this discussion as I thought I had set m...

Trill assigned by neighoring instrument

I have read of the many problems of Human Playback and Trills, starting late, Ending early etc. Here is a trill error I have that I cannot seem to clear. A trill in Bb Clarinet 1 that activates a trill in the bassoon part during HP (Standard and Marching Band). I am using Finale 26 3.1 520 build. I ...

Re: Chord Font replaces a tilde for an "m" for minor chords

I should add that the chord depictions started in Times Roman 11 font, it was after I tried to convert them to match the Jazz font of the rest of the score that I began to see this character sub problem.

Re: Chord Font replaces a tilde for an "m" for minor chords

I never got the question you refer to, asking to add the "m". Here's the first 2 pages, the guitar line shows what I am seeing, the substitution of "~" for "m". In measure 5, that should be a G minor 6 chord.

Chord Font replaces a tilde for an "m" for minor chords

Just began extracting parts for a big band piece which led me to finalize and learn about chord depiction in Finale. I am using the Jazz font for the score. Re: Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?

Just back with a new problem, thought I'd give follow up on this one. I added a separate Piccolo staff then hid it from the score view. This solved the problem and gave the flute and piccolo their own voices while allowing the printed part to be combined. Did not try the layer 2 option. Thanks to al...

Re: Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?

The part will be played most times with separate players. Both parts play similar music as in a standard American March. I am not sophisticated enough on MIDI stuff to set up separate channels, which is why I went with adding a separate piccolo staff and hid it. Now I have bot the combined part for ...

Re: Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?

It worked. I wonder what other voice issues you give up when combining instruments on one staff. I assumed changing the voice in Garritan would lead to an accurate instrument voice on playback, but in this case it lowered the Piccolo an octave to match the Flute. Any other examples of this out there?

Re: Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?

The score is written as combined Flute 1 & 2 and Solo Piccolo on one staff. The parts will be extracted separately. All notes are written as for the flute with the expectation that the Piccolo would play the same Flute 1 notes at 1 octave higher. My question is that during playback, the Garritan Pic...

Finale Piccolo Range Question: why 1 Octave lower?

Using the Finale Garritan Instruments library (the standard library), selecting Piccolo Solo voice, this voice seems to give me a pitch that is actually 1 octave lower that the actual piccolo sound. I played the note in my piece in Finale 26.3.1.520, an F sitting on the top line of the staff, which ...

Re: Playback Repeat Controls

Thanks ttw. I have used or tried to use the Playback Controls and not found the ideal settings to allow me to stop in the middle of a section on the second pass (between repeats signs) and restart in place and keep the Repeat Number "2". Finale places a "1" in the box after pause/stop. It seem stop ...

Playback Repeat Controls

I have a piece where several voices tacit for the first time through a section. While composing this section it has been inefficient to have the Playback Controls always reset the Repeat Number to "1" after a pause or stop. If I can only hear the voices the second time through, I would prefer to "se...
