Re: Finale Library
Musescore has an extensive library of PDFs that might be useful; I believe you can download as MusicXML. Then getting straight with the Copyright Powers would of course be up to you.

Re: MusXML comparison
In my line of work before I retired, Altova's suite of applications to manipulate XML six ways from Sunday was the gold standard. You totally could apply them to XML files of any sort, but they are impossibly geeky, and know not of this music notation output of which you speak, as far as I know. But...

Re: save to mp3
Definitely export to .wav or .aiff, as you will get the best sound quality. Then if you want to convert to .mp3, which is compressed, you can do that with third party free apps, or even with Windows Media Player.

Thank you for that link, N Grossingink. What can be more hopeful than the C Major at the end. (Martinu is one of my favorites)

Re: "Advanced" Finale manual needed
One thing that differentiates me and my computer cohort (some of you qualify) from folks that grew up with computers is that the latter group expects to be up and running w/o reading any damn manual. A few pokes and tries, and bob's yer uncle. I expect that to work nowadays in anything I download, i...

Re: "Advanced" Finale manual needed
Zoots I think Finale is one of the worst at that. My cheat sheets more often than not consist of telling myself how I got to a particular menu. And there are version and platform name differences to the menu items as well, making recall or retracing impossible. One thing I really admire about Jason'...

Re: "Advanced" Finale manual needed
ebiggs1 I find his material tremendously valuable and well-organized, and rely on it heavily. Only problem for me is I forget where I found something of value, and have a hard time finding it again in the videos. That's why I started an extensive cheat sheet.

... Or perhaps a well-organized index that takes one to the best source to answer any particular question. This is what I would love to see! Well-organized, in that there would be some 7-10 top level categories to take one through the process, starting with installation of software and plugins, the...

Re: "Advanced" Finale manual needed
I have had to learn a lot of not particularly user-friendly software from scratch in my career, and I see great benefit to good manuals. I rely on them to provide a clear comprehensive overview, a logical table of contents directing my way through the topics, a locator for tutorials, libraries and c...

Re: "Advanced" Finale manual needed
I could not agree more. I have taken to just using google to find the answers to my questions, and retaining notes on a rapidly enlarging Finale cheat sheet I started. I do look on this Forum, and other power user websites, and can often find an answer there as well. But that is pretty random, and I...

Re: graphics disappearing
... Using (any format in) Finale's Graphics tool the images are distorted when reimported because vector graphics for some obscure MM reason are changed into bitmapped ones. Resulting in blurry and totally useless images... Well this hot mess will keep me from tearing my hair out trying to use cust...

Re: graphics disappearing
I think I found one potential workaround; although we shouldn't need a workaround, we all know that. In Shape Designer, click Create Misc. Expression. Then click the add graphic button (instead of using the Graphics Tool in the Tool Palette) and then add a graphic. That way, your graphic is added a...

Re: Document could not be saved. File does not exist.
Nope, that's not it. I did a trial run, and my document Autosaved perfectly in default location without my agency within the time period I specified. But I am using 27.3, so may not be equivalent.AnneMillington wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 4:27 pmMaybe you need to do one manual save before autosave kicks in?

Re: a lost file
I kind of like command line, because I started in Unix but was forced into Windows when I changed state agencies. It always seems more "real" to me. A few observations: 1) I always thought of Windows searches as being pretty good because you could customize to find a document by some text it contain...

Re: Serious issues with finale
I am leaning to a computer hardware problem and not a Finale one... The fact that Finale 27.3 runs on my Windows 10 off the shelf Dell desktop and thousands of other computers almost flawlessly ever since installed it almost eliminates Finale as the issue... I agree with ebiggs1. I have found Final...

Re: Serious issues with finale
I'm interested in knowing whether the reset Preferences thing works. Also, rogue335, do you have another computer with a similar setup that has not had Finale installed ever? My guess is Finale would work fine there, leading back to the Preferences issue or some other left-behind configuration files.
