Re: Export Manuscript Texture Setting to PDF????

As an aside, does forScore allow adjustment of background brightness or color? Maybe texture?

Anyway this is great information. Thank!

Re: Make measures taller without formatting issues?

Re putting an older composition into a newly formatted template, I have had good luck with a mass copy and paste. Most of the new formatting is honored, with only a few tweaks required. I've never tried what you describe, but that is how I would go at it.

Re: Moderator Responses

When I have a question nowadays, I use browser search as specifically as I can, and usually come up with something to get me by the obstruction. But nothing compares to the personal touch, and I truly value mod input. I know it is a thankless chore sometimes. So here are my thanks!

mp3 to xml?

I need to do my best to transcribe some sound files to something readable in Finale like xml. It looks like Finale MIGHT have some native tools to do that, but I wanted to ask for direction before I get too far into the weeds with something that doesn't work well. I am not looking for a free app, ju...

Re: Help with Script

I haven't used Finale Script for anything yet, but I have used a number of scripting languages like Python and JavaScript in the course of work (in the olden days). Based on that, I wonder if you could cobble together some system commands to export Finale files to v2012 or to XML, then open it or se...

Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?

Arnold Arnstein took the opposite approach and wanted each of the instrument labels to be as dissimilar from each other as possible as a visual aid to the conductor. So he used Vln 1, Vln 2, Viola, Cello, Bass. Note that each of them except the bass has 5 "characters": nice and even. He didn't see ...

Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?

I write for string quintet, and in this context I like to use Contrabass, abbreviated as Cb. This is consistent with Violoncello, abbreviated as Vc, Viola as Va, and Violin I and Violin II, abbreviated as Vn I and Vn II. All 2 letter abbreviations with consistent rules. There. Now you know my privat...

Re: v27 Please See Attached Photo (I can't describe this mess)

Can you open a Finale NotePad doc in Finale 27? Or export as xml and import into Finale? Bypass the wizard; just Document>Set Default Music Font to the music font you choose. That's what I would try anyway.

Can you export NotePad files into music xml? It might work to transfer info that way, vs cut and paste. I don't know the capabilities of NotePad.

Re: Musescore the answer?

Try a Finale XML export to Dorico import XML. I did this on a recent not-terribly-complicated duet I just completed, and it is acceptable, really. I could move forward with it if that were all I had. Might be a good idea to systematically create music XML files along with the final MUSXs, PDFs and ...

I have not tried the XML export/import into Dorico but if it is anything like going to Musescore 4.1 It is a nightmare to the point, you may as well start form scratch.

These are very valuable musings, if I may say. I was thinking of Musescore as my go-to if Finale goes away, but now I think I will have a look at Dorico. I appreciate these evaluations.

For my part, I like Finale okay, because I am used to it, and Google searches help me over the rough patches. I just wish MM would be more motivated to support its users. I'm happy enough with 27.3, but agree regarding the paucity of meat in the upgrades. It is not what I would expect from an application that is serious about progressing. But like I say, it's okay. I do find that when I stumble upon some peculiarity with an action that "should" work, or has worked in...
