Library import/ export misses user-defined categories
I use a group of expressions to represent classical guitar fingerings. I call that set "New fingerings". But when I export a library which should include those fingerings, and then import it into a new work I find none of those items are carried over. In my export I include just 'expressions'. Is th...

Making augmentation work (Change Note Durations to 200%)
This is not so much as a question as an observation . Hopefully this observation will save other people so much frustration . Augmentation in Finale does work, is very powerful, (and of course is a wonderful compositional technique. ) I've been trying to apply rhythmic note augmentation (i.e. Change...

Re: Swapping parts
I'm swapping parts everyday and Peter Thompson's method of copying bypassing the clipboard is exactly what I want.
The only problem is I'm too stupid to make it work (on windows I know that = <Option, Alt> means <Control, Alt>.)
Is there a video anywhere of this trick in action?

Re: Changing time signature of a selected region or bar
On my laptop, just right now, alt-U correctly focusses on the measure box. This morning it did not. I'm not insane. Such intermittent behavior started with Windows 11. When alt-U works :D one can have a very simple script like : ;===== Scrolling in landscape mode ^+PgUp:: SetKeyDelay (50) Send, {Esc...

Re: Changing time signature of a selected region or bar
As retired professional programmer I can tell you that low level bugs will be in the toolkits used to build Finale or in Windows itself. Microsoft seems to 'delight' in breaking underlying functionality. A classic example is Finale in scroll view . The measure box has an accelerator key of alt-U . I...

Re: Duplication in lyric box
Just in case anyone reads this and sees no replies . I have invented a workable solution for longer choral works. The essence of my solution is to paste the libretto section into a 'working area' in some lyric "sections.". Inevitably as I compose that will get messed up (as I illustrated above). Ho...

Duplication in lyric box
To compose traditional (fugal) choral music I begin by pasting hyphenated text into the lyric box. I always use click assignment to put the lyrics under notes I always use filter copy to copy text between parts. I can't use clone (the music is not sufficiently homophonic ). I'm so impressed by how w...

Re: Changing time signature of a selected region or bar
Thank you for your helpful replies, I think I've sorted it. After I restart Finale the time signature tool works exactly as you both describe (correctly). However, after 20-30 minutes extensive editing, (using many other tools including articulation, expression etc) the time signature behaviour grad...

Changing time signature of a selected region or bar
I'm confused by the operation of the type signature tool. If I select a number of bars (with shift down and mouse), continue to hold the shift key down and then double click in the last selected bar the time signature tool will pop up with the correct measures preselected - and I can choose a new ti...

Re: Sorting the list of expressions into alphabetical order
Thank you for your replies.
I do use categories, which does help, but one of the categories "Expressions" - which includes actual expressions such as "dolce" , "cantabile" etc inevitably gets quite large . I'll just have to discipline myself to keep them in alphabetical order

Sorting the list of expressions into alphabetical order
I've added many expressions and have a huge list of them. Is there a method which would put all my expressions into alphabetical order? (Sorting a list of names by hand feels exceptionally archaic). Another incredibly useful order would be one in which the 'most used' expressions were sorted to the ...

Symbol Selection via keyboard
I often use the Symbol Selection Dialog Box to change a notehead (e.g. to a diamond shape to indicate a harmonic). This involves some scrolling about :( to find the diamond symbol I want. (even though I know where it is) However all the items in the Symbol Selection dialog box are numbered . Can I u...

Re: Acoustic Guitar Sustain
Mike Your example works absolutely perfectly. Thank you so much for your help. All the references I'd previously seen suggested using the line tool to express pedals- but for guitar that doesn't seem to work. However, your example uses the articulation tool - and not only does your example work but ...

Re: Acoustic Guitar Sustain
Does this work? Can pedal markings do sustain on the guitar while the "pedal is down". I've tried it, but for me it seems to very little or zero effect. (If I write for piano it does work.) Am I missing some secret , is there low set up I can do? I'd really like to get this to work as I need my com...

Re: Noteperformer issues
I'm assuming your playback starts but does not continue. Is that the correct assumption? In the playback settings there is an item called " Stop at ". It has the option to be the end of the piece or an actual numbered measure . Maybe it is set to an actual number? I accidentally set it like that mys...

Re: Indicating Rasgueado
Peter Thank you your reply. I'm using the expression tool for all technical guitaristic effects (e.g. fingerings, string markings, rasgueados etc ). I'm not using the articulation tool. But I can guess the expression tool has has 'effect' reserved for certain font slot ranges as otherwise one couldn...

Indicating Rasgueado
In guitar music various up and down arrow styles can be used to indicate Rasgueados(strums). To get an upArrow I can use "U" (Capital 'U' character) in the EngraverText family font. This looks great. But, surprisingly it effects playback , adding a rit before and on the marked note :( Does anyone kn...

Re: Piano reduction plug not working?
Thank you for testing it. Actually the plug-in, even where it does work, doesn't quite do what I would want it to do – the result is more like a variation on 'implode' - each piano stave has all the note tails in the same direction. For choral work my conductor would expect two parts on each piano s...

Piano reduction plug not working?
I've trying to add piano reduction to 3 short choral pieces 3 pages ( landscape A4 50 bars) and 5 pages and 9 pages . I'm just using the piano reduction plug in straight out-of-the-box. For all three pieces it begins processing – but never completes . If I stop finale after 15 minutes and let it rec...

Re: Articulation Dialogue appears flat/minimised
I've had similar problem with the expression dialogue . This time I found a much better solution. Refreshing preferences always works – but it is distressing to then discover how many non-default preferences you use, and if (like me) you use a lot of macros and muscle memory when composing it's very...

Re: Finale 27 ludicrously slow to start
RE: fixing it kind of breaks it in the end . I removed my ASIO months ago and its worked perfectly ( " works for me" ) ever since. So maybe the ASIO on your computer is "more intermittently faulty" than mine :( . You shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes for it to start – you should definitely raise a s...
