Finale can not read your mind (at least not yet; and it can not yet make coffee). The fret numbers are Finale’s best attempt at notating the given music in Tablature Notation. However, your notation does not show, in what octave the note should sound. The numbers 6 - 7 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 could mean two different pitches, in two different octaves. And the number 5 could mean three different pitches, in three different octaves. A clear notation would be with three 1-line stav...

Yes, thank you. I've been looking in the manual and in the settings of your file, and don't quite understand where you're making the changes. To make things easier, here is a file with all the notes we are able to play, from G3 to G5. Finale shows the numbers as -3, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10...

Not a problem. I *don't* want it to use the numbers 8 and up. Finale tablature is using them. If I select a measure and lower it an octave, it turns out it will use -3s and -1s. (I've attached my finale file to show you this.) I cut and pasted from my other score into yours, and it made it tablature...

This is great. The only think I have left to figure out is if Finale can only use the numbers 1 through 7 rather than 8 and up.

Haha. No. Numbers are the quickest way to learn a tune. If you know the scale degrees, you can sing it and play it on any instrument that you know how to play a scale on.
