Re: Measure margins

In the full Finale pgm, you can globally position the measure numbers. Or eliminate them completely.

I don't know if these options are in SW.

Re: Notes above the staff for Percussion?

If all manuscripted drum parts looked as good as this one, we wouldn't need Finale.

Easy - Explode Music into 3 new staves, then delete the 2 you don't want.

Neither does the person who wrote the sheet music.

Write the 3/4 staff the way you want it to look. Don't give it a playback assignment.

Add a staff to the bottom of the score. Enter the same part, but in 9/8. Use this staff for playback, and hide it when you print.

Jazz Text flat symbol = ALT 0132

Hold down ALT key while entering 0132 on numeric keypad.

Study the character maps for your fonts, there's lotsa useful goodies.

Wow, Finale 20016 is released already?

These upgrades are coming out earlier all the time now.

Several companies offer little 2-octave USB controllers, which will suit your purpose. Mail order or retail, you should be able to obtain one for around 50USD.

If you are "way spaced out", use the up & down arrow keys to move a highlighted measure to the next system.

Don't expect any notation program to transcribe a midi file and provide useful parts for performance.

I said drag chunks. You can reduce the view percentage to show more on your screen.
Work in scroll view. Drag a chunk from the R side toward the L, it may take a coupla tries to synch it up properly. If ya miss, CntrlZ and try again.
Rinse & repeat.

You can also insert a blank measure, and drag chunks backwards.

The one-bar repeat symbol applies not only to the chord, but to every musical element in the previous measure. It is essentially an engraver's shortcut. With the simplicity of copy-and-paste in a notation program, use it judiciously. Often the music will read easier when it is completely written out...

On most printers, you can config 2-up originals loaded in the doc feeder.
They will then print your lettersize pages side-by-side on 11x17 stock.

If not, just place your originals side-by-side on the doc glass.

Keep your stuff down to 11x17, folded.
The bigger stuff just gets mangled in the folders.

I just make PDFs and go to the print shop at Office Depot/Max. Unless you do mega-runs, it's not worth it to have your own mega-printer.

For heavier stock, I go to offset print shops and buy their leftovers.

If you don't want this (since it is obvious that this is the Score), on the File Menu select File Info, then in Score Name Insert delete the default title.

When you need the flat symbol as text, i.e. an instrument name, use ALT0132.

The best tutorial is to be a disciple of THIS forum. Spend time digging through the archives. Learn the language. Every facet of the program has been covered here, it just takes a little patience to find the process.
And best of all, it doesn't cost you a thing!

Start with a score template, then add or delete staves as necessary. Enter one page at a time from the original score, OR one complete part at a time from the parts. Make two passes on each part. Do the raw notation first, then come back and add all the dynamics and phrasing. Create a staff list for...
