Re: eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
Thank you all so much. I see how to do it now, and I'll write myself a list of instructions from the ones you have given me here. It's easy when you know how, eh?! Cheers.

Re: eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
I've found a work around. On any beat other than the last beat of the measure, place an eighth note or rest on that beat, press 9, erase the middle rest of the three, and put the quarter note on the eighth note rest. If the triplet occurs on the last beat of the measure, construct the triplet on the...

Re: eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
Thank you - it is the one I require. However, the response I get to your instructions don't work. In Simple entry, I enter an eighth note (or rest) which is red, press 9 (on either keyboard or number pad) and see two black eighth note rests following the eighth note, with a blue '3' bracket beneath....

eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
Hi. I can follow the instructions in "Tuplets" for creating an eighth note triplet with a quarter note to start, but I can't find a way to do the opposite. I've tried to follow Mike Rosen's "Tuplets with Simple Entry" instructions without success. I've managed a couple of times to create the triplet...

Thank you. I opened the file and it played at the correct tempo. I have no idea what happened. The wheels move in mysterious ways.

Re: Finale 2014 Tempo Settings Don't Work
I have Finale v. 27 and I'm having the same issue. In this case the tempo is set to quarter note = 72, but the score plays back at one-third of this speed i.e. 24bpm. I've followed all the steps above that tenortwo used, but it makes no difference. The tempo is also set to 72 in the Playback Control...

Re: Global font change in a document
I don't know how to delete the repeated post. Sorry.
However, I just noticed another thing about the transfer - the dynamics haven't changed to the Jazz font. I can't find how to fix this.

Re: Global font change in a document
I think I've just answered my own question. I set up a new score in the Setup Wizard using Jazz as the Text font, copied and pasted the old 'Select All' material into a newly set up score, and it worked - with some shortcomings: Slash, Rhythmic and Repeat Bar notations didn't transfer. Written notes...

Re: Global font change in a document
Oh - a further question, please. Is it possible to set up a new score using the Setup Wizard, choosing the jazz option, and then Select All in the "Classical" setup and copy and paste it into the jazz setup score? Would that work? It would save me an awful lot of time over the option I outlined above.

Re: Global font change in a document
I was hoping that changing the font in a document would also encompass the overall look of the document. I have a score in which the original Text font is Times Roman - I think I must have chosen a 'classical' ensemble from the Setup Wizard. As well as that, the staves are smaller - 12 to a page - t...

Re: Global font change in a document
Thank you both. I've found the "Changing chord symbol fonts" section in the User Manual and that seems clear enough. I take it that everything after the base note (e.g. Bb) of a chord is regarded as a suffix in Finale. When I've been trying to change the size of base notes and suffixes, I sometimes ...

Global font change in a document
Can I do a global font change in a document? For example, if I've made a choice when setting up the document using the Setup Wizard and it turns out to use, say, the Maestro font but later on I realise I'd prefer, say, the Jazz font, is there a way to make that change that will incorporate everythin...

Re: creating parts from full score
I am so sorry but I've made a very silly boo-boo. I've just realised I have two copies of the score - one with solos and one without. I've been looking at the parts for the one without solos.
Please put it down to age and senility. Again, my deep apologies for wasting everyone's time.

Re: creating parts from full score
Hi. This is not a 'reply' but is a request for help under this topic. I've received wonderful help on an earlier difficulty I had with scores and parts, for which I'm extremely grateful to all who helped, and I now have a good understanding of what to do. However, I've just encountered a situation w...

Re: sharp and flat symbols beside chord roots
Thanks, Peter. I do get it! I'm using v. 27.3.0.137. When I tried Finale Jazz it put in 'b'. When I tried JazzCord I got a 'B'. However, when I tried Jazz Perc I finally got a flat symbol. Success at last, although I don't know how you'd explain that. Thanks again.

Re: sharp and flat symbols beside chord roots
Thanks, Peter, but when I do that the flat symbols become lower case 'b's. What font should I be choosing to get a proper flat symbol? I'm using Finale Jazz Text for the general text in the arrangement and Jazz Cord for the chord roots and suffixes.

sharp and flat symbols beside chord roots
The flat and sharp symbols that come up beside chord roots are sometimes too small. I can't find how to make them larger. I can change the size of all aspects of chord suffixes, but I can't find anything on this. Can you help, please?

Re: repeating measures
Thank you Peter Thomsen. The Use Filter was checked, and unchecking it took me back to my old way i.e. Select passage, hold down Ctrl and left click on first measure of position to be copied to. I've learnt some more about Finale.
Thank you to all. I use Finale on a Windows PC.

repeating measures
After entering four measures, say, of music and I want those notes, etc, to appear in the next four measures, how do I do it? Before I understood about linked parts, I used to highlight the four measures, then hold down 'ctrl' and click on the first beat of the next four measures. That won't work fo...

Re: Slash notation lost when parts extracted
Hey! I have it, thanks to all your excellent help. I'm sorry to have seemed so slow/dumb in getting it. I need to apologise particularly to michelp for saying I didn't know what "Create a text in the score" meant. Of course I do, but I was confused because I didn't know where I should create it. So ...

Re: Slash notation lost when parts extracted
Thank you so much Peter Thomsen and ebiggs1. However, there still seems to be a communications disconnect. To get instrumental parts that exist as separate parts in the folder for that score, which I can print out or make PDFs of: Document > Manage Parts > Generate Parts Is that it? Will that give m...

Re: Slash notation lost when parts extracted
Thanks motet, but ... "Depending on how your file was created" means what? At present, I'm setting up a score for a big band arrangement. In "Manage Parts" the "Available Instruments" list contains all the instruments in the score. The "Linked Parts" list is missing a couple of them. (All the instru...

Re: Slash notation lost when parts extracted
Thanks again, people. I do appreciate your replies. However, I think I have just discovered that Finale produces complete parts that need no editing. I didn't know this. I must have wasted thousands of hours over the past 30 years. I thought it was intuitive to click Extract Parts, which then left m...
