Re: changing duration of grace note played on the beat
Hi Djard, If I recall correctly, the durations offered there are in realtime units. It would be more helpful if the options for grace note length were, say, "semiquaver, quaver, crotchet..." or "half the following note, a quarter of the following note, etc." -- which would gauge the length to the be...

Hi all, Previously, I was in the habit of switching back and forth from bluetooth headphones to a wired set of speakers. When the headphones were turned off, sound switched back to the speakers -- no problem. I recently got a bluetooth speaker, and now whenever I walk away from Finale for a while (l...

Beautiful, that did it!
Many thanks to you both; I've learned a powerful new tool.

Re: force hide staff name after divisi?
Thanks, Motet! I did find that dialogue, but it removes the single staff name everywhere -- including on the first seven pages where I would like to include it. Is there a way to make a staff name appear on some systems and not others? Ideally, I'd like this first: S2 single.JPG And then this, with ...

force hide staff name after divisi?
Hi all, I have a soprano 2 part in a choral score, which divides into two parts on p. 7. At that point I've bracketed two staves together, and am calling the group S2. But the original "S2" (single staff name) continues to show up on every system, like this: S2 split.JPG Is there a way to force-hide...

Re: wrapping word extensions
Oh my gosh, thanks for putting in so much time (for a stranger on the internet)! I really appreciate it, even if the issue is still a mystery.
And yes, mysterious errors creep in with age. My back can attest to that.
Back to the drawing board....

Re: wrapping word extensions
Ha! Unfortunately, it's very much the standard in choral music -- and does actually make the line easier to read.

That's weird. I did attach it, but it disappeared. Trying again, and this time I'll double-check once posted!

Re: wrapping word extensions
Okay, I tried deleting all the old lyrics -- wiping every verse, chorus, and section clean -- and then re-entering. Unfortunately, the same wrapping problems show up. Bar 5 in the attached, for example: Soprano 1's text doesn't extend at all, Soprano 2 extends off the page, Alto 1 doesn't show the b...

Re: wrapping word extensions
Thanks, Miker! You're probably right that it would be faster to simply start afresh. I'll give it a shot and see if it fixes the extensions....

wrapping word extensions
Hi all, I'm working with a document originally created in Finale 3.1... yes, I've been around that long! So the problems I'm facing may be related to it being a multi-legacy file. But here goes: although I've enabled smart word extensions, I'm still having all kinds of problems with them. Sometimes ...

Perfect! That did the trick -- many thanks.

Re: blank notation -- help!
Sure -- see attached. The issue is in bar 7 of the Soprano 1 part. (I did manage to restore the visible notes in layer one, but am still trying to hide the sounding notes in layer three.)

blank notation -- help!
Hi all, I have a vocal line with some ornaments that aren't playing correctly, so I wrote the rhythm out precisely in layer three, and applied blank notation style to hide those messier notes. Then assigned playback to the hidden layer. This worked beautifully, until I went in to change one note. Cl...

Re: individual panning for different lines
That did it! (Though as it turned out, I also had to redefine all the staves as blank styles first, and then manually rename them.)
Many thanks!

Re: individual panning for different lines
Thanks, Motet -- I tried that, but it didn't seem to want to accept a change. When I change the number under "CH", it either disappears when I click away (presumably reverting to what it was) -- or it changes the instrument as well. What am I doing wrong?

individual panning for different lines
Hi all, I'm sure there's a method for this, but I haven't figured it out yet... I have a five-part score, all of whose parts are assigned to the same instrumental sound. When I use the mixer to pan the voices out separately (for a stereo effect), the panning knobs appear to accept separate settings ...

Re: assigning different instrument to specific notehead
Thanks, Motet! I did think about that, but decided I was happy with how it looks on the staff -- it's just an issue of the playback now. I'll experiment with layers (thank you Miker!) and see if I can make it work. Always learning something new.

Re: assigning different instrument to specific notehead
Thanks, Miker! I'd like to keep everything on one staff if I can, as that makes things easier for singers -- and also infuses the energy of the clap into the singing -- so I'll look into layers. I haven't used those before, or at least not in many years.... are they like invisible staffs behind the ...

assigning different instrument to specific notehead
This seems a long shot, but here goes: I have a vocal score which incorporates hand claps. I've notated them on the same staff, just interspersed with the melody, using different noteheads (X's) -- but of course finale plays them back as regular pitches. Is there any way to assign a different instru...

changing duration of grace note played on the beat
Hi all, After some work, I figured out how to get grace notes to play on the beat (by using a custom human playback style and choosing baroque ornaments).... but now they're played for the same duration no matter where I set the value. I'd like them to play as semiquavers (taking up 1/4 of the crotc...
