Re: Instrument change sometimes makes expressions and lines wig out
It looks like a bug having to do with going from a five-line staff to a one-line staff. It looks like if you use a five-line staff, apply your dynamics and hairpins, and only then change to one line, that will get around it and is probably preferable to copying from another staff. Thanks! That "fix...

Instrument change sometimes makes expressions and lines wig out
While creating percussion staves that change from instrument to instrument, I sometimes have a strange issue where any expression, articulation or line after the change wants to stick to the beginning of the first measure of the change. I can only add these things by copy pasting them from another s...

Re: Perfect layout is moving the measure numbers in score
Thanks for the responses. Jan from elbsound helped me out. The problem seems to be unique to me, but the solution was to go into edit measure number regions and to the correct of the 4 regions. 3 additional measure number regions are created upon running PL, and of the 4 only one can be adjusted. Wh...

Re: Perfect layout is moving the measure numbers in score
Measure number positioning for both Score and Parts is located in the Alignment tab in PL (Gold). I don't know if I can adjust it in mine, when I tried it didn't work, but maybe I'm using the wrong box. I don't have the words "measure number positioning", as it's in french. I've added a screen shot...

thanks for the response. Ok so I had found that and it wasnt working, but upon trying it on a non-PL processed score it works. I think there is a bug, I will contact Elbsound.Bill Stevens wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 11:57 pmMeasure Tool > Measure > Edit Measure Number Region > Position.

Perfect layout is moving the measure numbers in score
I use perfect layout with the factory settings. Basically I run the plug in and hit enter until the windows stop existing. It worked great but I just changed my set up (update, new computer, new version of finale) and now the measure numbers collide with the staves in the score. Kind of a deal break...

Can't get dynamic shortcuts to work on french laptop
I just got a french laptop, a mac running big sur. A frustrating particularity with french laptops is that the number are all secondary to characters, so i need to hold shift to type any of the numbers. Upon opening finale (27.4) on this computer for the first time, I realized that the short cuts 0-...

Resizing page in linked part moves the copyright
When I resize page using the % tool in individual linked parts the copyright is moved with the rest of the page. This is annoying, because sometimes I like having a different page size % for different parts in order to fit 2.25 pages into 2 pages without having to move measures around. Is there a wo...

Re: Do you create a different file for scores/parts?
It's not difficult to omit the individual Flute 1 and Flute 2 from the printed score. Thanks for the response! How do you omit the individual staves from the score?nce omitted does perfect layout recognize that and act accordingly? Of course the best would be to only combine when all is done, but I...

Do you create a different file for scores/parts?
For years I have had two files for every large orchestral piece, one for separate parts and one for the score. This is because I want to the score to have the winds a2-a3 so it is more condensed. At one point I tried a single file, using scorelists to hide a2/1./2. etc on the score, and using the "s...

Re: first second endings collisions in parts
There are a lot of us that would like to try Perfect Layout but the lack of a full featured short term demo version is holding us back. I know that you offer to process a file sent via email and return the result, but one really needs to have the software to test multiple times, at their leisure. I...

Re: first second endings collisions in parts
The latest version of Perfect Layout v3.0169 now supports automatic horizontal and vertical layout of first and second ending collisions, both in score and parts. Here is an example with its default settings: https://elbsound.studio/assets/img/ES/align%20repeat%20brackets%20vertically%20and%20horiz...

Re: imploding music changes note values
Sorry, I was wrong about there being insufficient beats. A dotted half rest is three beats, but engravers don't use it that way in this case. Normally you don't span the middle of the bar like that except for the entire measure. So why would finale have that as it's default in 4/4 when I write an e...

Re: imploding music changes note values
No. But in this case, the eighth rest isn't wrong. The dotted half rest is, and there are too few beats in the measure. 5NoteChord, fix the rests before running JW Staff Polyphony. Otherwise, it will not do what you want. Thank you for your responses. I downloaded the JW plug-in (and subsequently f...

imploding music changes note values
Using finale 2014.5 on a macbook pro 2010 high sierra. When I implode 2+ lines of music (I am doing it because I finish a score with 1 instrument per stave for easier linked parts, and then make a conductor's score with 2-3 wind instruments per line using the implode function where necessary) it see...

Re: Where does one buy older versions of finale?
My mistake, I meant that I am running on Sierra, 10.12.6 and I can't upgrade to a newer OSX because my computer is too old. System requirements state that V27 only works with 10.14 and newer. It is possible to install newer OS versions than supported, using third-party fixes. https://dortania.githu...

Re: Single line is stuck on a page
Take a look at the attached file. This is similar to how Percussion parts for performance or published music are laid out. Your sample is way too spread out for the amount of material present. Maybe "Perfect Layout" can be tweaked to give a more professional result. I use Perfect Layout also, but i...

Re: Single line is stuck on a page
Perfect Layout seems like overkill here. I'm guessing that part would require very little tweaking without it--maybe moving [45] up to clear the second ending. That's about it. Just deleting the page break, unlocking everything, and respacing is a big improvement. No need for such big measures. Def...

Re: Single line is stuck on a page
As a default PL puts a PB on every page. You can get a script that will remove all PB in one click. Why are you extracting parts? Linked parts is so much better. I know there must be a reason why people still do that but I can't understand why. Where is that script at? As for extracting parts, I ne...

Single line is stuck on a page
Hi all,
I recently purchased perfect layout, and it works great except this one triangle part has an unnecessary second page with a single line and I can't seem to consolidate it to the first page. What gives?
I attached the extracted part; I know, boring stuff, but decently paid boring stuff :0)

Re: first second endings collisions in parts
To move the ending up or down vertically but not horizontally, select the top handles first by dragging around them with the mouse then hold down the Shift key before click+dragging them. Thanks, didn't know this tip, and after trying it, it seems it works in both directions, locking into horizonta...

first second endings collisions in parts
I am using Finale 2014.5 on a macbook pro mid-2010 Hi all! I have had this question (along with many others) for years and have never thought to ask it here. When you have first and second ending in the score, how do you adjust for part collision avoidance? Where you place it in the score dictates i...
