Re: FInale Can't Change Durations without changing rhythm - Dorico Can
Hi Tony, Thanks for the link - I usually remember how to augment but you've got a good checklist. However augmentation is not changing duration alone it is changing rhythm as well. In my example, my complaint was that Finale misunderstood halving durations as creating a diminution - the opposite of ...

Re: FInale Can't Change Durations without changing rhythm - Dorico Can
I am sure some do - I will try to find someone willing. I a still recovering from a famous programmer at the Lua site chastising me by saying he believes if a user wants a function they should write it themselves!

Re: FInale Can't Change Durations without changing rhythm - Dorico Can
I don't know how to find out if that's the reason. It would seem to me there have been over the years many composers finding FInale not up to the tweaking needed for a good MIDI mockup, whi therefore use a DAW like Logic or Performer. THEN then would have to export MIDI, as I was often asked to do, ...

Re: FInale Can't Change Durations without changing rhythm - Dorico Can
AND THE PRIZE GOES TO Motet!!! Not even the Finale techs I've asked over the years thought to look at TG's "Modify Rests" as the answer to the problem of how to Change Durations!!! So I won;t have to switch to Dorico after all! ;-) (Just kidding! How many years of working with Dorico before I find a...

FInale Can't Change Durations without changing rhythm - Dorico Can
I am again campaigning to ask people to ask Finale to learn how to change durations, without changing rhythms! Also - please confirm you cannot change 3 quarters in 3/4 time to 3 8th notes, each on a beat and followed by an 8th rest. Finale creates 3 successive 8th notes for me. Does someone know ho...

Re: Can I Add a Slur in A Part and See It In the Score?
Doh! You are right! Thanks! With your encouragement, I looked more closely and saw I had too many documents open and was looking for the slur in the wrong version of the score!! I had thought this was the way it was supposed to work and was kicking myself for getting old and feebleminded in forgetti...

Re: Is there a better way to handle enharmonic re-writing?
Thanks Motet,
Unfortunately I have been doing thios for decades and find it tedious and time-consuming. I am sure I have done more than 1000 pages (although not all at once, and without the good outcome of having written an opera! )

Re: Is there a better way to handle enharmonic re-writing?
Peter,
Thanks for confirming Finale doesn't have a hidden solution. Jason Loffredo wrote that Dorico has a solution that is 80% effective - what would it take to get that ported over to Finale?

Is there a better way to handle enharmonic re-writing?
Is there a script for intelligently respelling notes enharmonically to make them most easily readable? Finale's method of mapping ALL B#s to C for example is too crude, since G# A# B# might be the best outcome in one bar, and Bb C might be better elsewhere.

Peter! I am so grateful to you! This works like a charm! WIth no side effects in subsequent passages! Fast and easy! Great clear directions from you also helped. Re: How do we double note values in a passage?
Hi Peter, Please disregard (or postphone) my request for you to solve Finale's inability to open all old documents correctly. Your workaround (not selecting Rebar) is so successful I am going to finish this project by using it. HOWEVER - What if one tries to double the note values of, say, 5 bars of...

Re: How do we double note values in a passage?
Peter, Thank you - that worked! I smack only my own forehead for not try that permutation of possible settings! This workaround However, when I do rebar for the whole piece, even after fixing all bars' durations, I get horrible distortions that are unfixable. Finale's tech told me that this is "expe...

Re: How do we double note values in a passage?
Peter, Thank you so much for the detailed help! You were right on A, B and 2). I fixed the Note Durations problems and tried your #3 - i.e. NOT clicking rebar. The result is that the 3 quarters in m26 become 3 half notes, and there are too many beats in the bar. The good news - there is no other dam...

Re: How do we double note values in a passage?
Hi Mike, Thanks for the tip. I tried ScrollView but the same unrepairable errors occurred. No Music Spacing commands can fix the horrific problems throughout the piece caused by simply doubling thew note values of one bar! Re: How do we double note values in a passage?
Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick response. I learned from your method that there's no need to change time signatures - Finale will create the new bars. HOWEVER - your method produces the same unfixable errors in subsequent bars in my piece. If I am doing your method correctly! Here's my attempt: https:...

How do we double note values in a passage?
Does anyone know how to double the note values in a section? The directions from Finale tech (if I'm following them correctly!) produce a fantastic unfixable mess in subsequent bars! See if you can put me out of my misery by watching this video and coming up with a solution! https://www.dropbox.com/...

How do I get a grand staff for marimba and still pick all the nonpitched perc for later sections?
Hi, I want a staff, which should always show up named "Perc 2." on the left side of the score. I want it sometimes to show a grand staff, treble and bass clef, and plat Note Performer's Marimba. Other times I want a single staff to show and play all the non-pitched percussion. If I make the staff Ma...

Re: Pasting notes into a Staff assigned to a Percussion Map
In case I am not the only one with this problem (which may be the case seeing there are no replies) here's what I've cme up with so far: 1. Export all non pitched perc tracks to a single multichannel midi file 2. Import into Finale with channels becoming staves 3. In the score, create a 'scratch' st...

Finale template that makes a nonpitched percussion legend for the NotePerformer library
Does anyone have a Finale template that makes a nonpitched percussion legend for the NotePerformer library? Tim Buell posted a great series for "drummers" showing how he does it with the Drumkit sound map. But when converting it to Nonpitched Percussion in NoitePerformer, most notes fall off the cha...

Problm was solved by deleting the affected staves and creating new ones, which worked as expected. Will consider it a one-off, a glitch, an anomoly - unless it recurs!

Note Performer sets the channel. Since there are 4 percussion staves, they cannot all be set to Ch 10 can they?

Staff switches to pitched perc from non pitched whenever I enter a note!
THIS JUST IN! A totally new problem! NP automatically assign the non pitched perc sounds to my staff. When I click with Speedy Note entry into a bar and play mu MIDI keyboard I can hear every note as a different non pitched perc instrument. TERRIFIC! I'm all set to enter my snare part. BUT every not...

Pasting notes into a Staff assigned to a Percussion Map
What's best way to paste notes into a staff that has a Percussion map assigned? I have 3 perc staves in a Finale piece, each created by Noteperformer to have a MIDI Map. I also have 12 Finale files, for each of 12 percussion instruments. I made these by exporting mid files from Digital Performer, so...
