Re: Automatic clef plugin

I'm not sure which instrument that you are playing, but flautists regulariliy read what seems to be about 100 leger lines. How is Finale supposed to determine what is regular, and what is irregular? Once transposed, it is simple to change clefs manually.

Re: Time signature disappeared

You will usually find that if you delete a group of measures (to the end of the piece) that had crescendo and decrescendo hairpins, and then you add a bunch of measures (as you stated), you will see that the hairpins still exist until you delete them individually. Makes you wonder what else still ex...

Re: Measures are moving

Sometimes, just clicking in, amd the out of, the other measure does the trick. Finale is remembering the original size of the measure, from before yu copied in the new parts.

Re: Descending Glissando

Usually, you need to give the gliss a starting and ending note, and then make sure the glissando marking goes up or down in the desired direction.

Re: New staves, same MIDI!

You assign different instruments in the instrument list. Window - Instrument List. Just remember that when you add a new staff, Finale automatically assigns the instrument and MIDI channel of the first staff. If you change just the instrument to an already existing instrument name, then all the same...

Re: How to create vertical text

This forum was created by Finale users. Sometime later, I believe, CodaMusic, or whoever it was at the time, created an official forum. They both still exist, and they are both good resources.

Maybe I can tell how I REALLY feel on this forum. Justin censored me on the other one once, and all I did was list a few facts.

Re: 2011b Quality Issues

I too have had complaints with just about everything percussion related. This year, the latest update is coming much later than in previous years, so I am optimistic that MANY of the problems from previous versions have been addressed. Please, please, please, pretty please, please!!!

Re: Finale layer color / hidden notes

I have a friend who changed EVERY colour in Finale to black (Finale 2007). Then, of course, he was confused when I tried to explain to him the difference between note attached and measure attached expressions.

Re: Marching Percussion - Please help

Sorry, I didn't respond to this earlier. Each staff must be using its own MIDI Channel. Percussion channels must be 10, 10 + 16 (26), 10 + 16 + 16 (42), 10 + 16 + 16 + 16 (58), etc. To get the marching percussion sounds, the "Program" must be set to 2. The Percussion MIDI Map must be set to VDL Lite...

Probably the best course of action is to be consistant when saving files, always adding a date and/or time to the filename.

The tie tool does what you want to do. It adds the value of each note to the next tied note, but it must be the very same note. However you find slurs in the SmartShape menu. The curved line that is created there is not intended to be a tie. A slur, when played by a wind instrument played is only to...

As long as you registered with MakeMusic at some point, if you contact support, they will probably send you a nes CD/DVD for a nominal fee.

Personally, i don't use the method, but sticking notes are an issue with some sound card combinations. It is a recognized bug and MakeMusic is working on it. Hopefully it will be resolved in the Finale 2012 release "sometime in the fall". As far as latency is concerned, there is some sort of latency...

You will also find that you can alter the order of the notes in the percussion layout. You used to be able to do it previous to Finale 2010 but it was a real pain. Now it is easy. On a MIDI keyboard, left hand notes are always to the left of the right hand notes. (Only makes sense). Also, MIDI note ...

Here is an explanation of the proceedure for creating your own custom XML files. It doesn't do you much good to be able to use them if you don't know how they were created. I wrote this up a while ago specifically for Garritan Jazz and Big Band 2 (JABB2) and Garritan Concert and Marching Band (CAMB)...

Try these. There are 3 files which must be put with their buddy files with the same extensions. All my stuff contains the word "Custom" for a couple of reasons. Since the default Finale note names are either ambiguous or silly, I have tried to add a custom name which is much more appropriate. At tim...

Unfortunately, the map which is used when you use the Setup Wizard is incorrect. That is one of the reasons that the rims and rimshots sound the same. Also, I think that you will find that there are only 5 bass drums, but there should be 6. It is all messed up. I created the correct files before for...

Usually, ftm files are read-only so that you don't accidentally overwrite them. Once you save your file as a template, navigate to the file in Windows Explorer, right click on it, choose Properties, and then check Read Only. Windows will still let you overwrite it, but at least it asks your permissi...
