Re: Hiding brackets and clefs
I'm not sure exactly what you want, but it can probably be achieved by moving the system margin. I've set the left barline here to invisible, applied blank notation and set the clefs in that one measure to blanks. If you want to get rid of the brace but not the group name, you can define another gr...

Re: Hiding barlines issues
For the visual help out, see the attachment. The marked purple line shows the "no barlines" style I have applied to the majority of score, and it seems to work for everything except the first bar of violas.

Hiding barlines issues
Has anyone ever had problems with simple hiding barlines using a Staff Tool? I defined a staff style and unchecked barlines in the options. It works great in majority of the score, but at some points it simply won't change a thing, even though the style has been applied to the bar or bars. I would o...

Hiding brackets and clefs
Hello everybody, I was wondering if it were possible to hide the group brackets, bar lines and clefs at the very beginning of a staff (what I marked red in the attached screen shot). What is important is that hiding applies to one selected measure, not the whole document, and that the group names re...

Re: Rectangular cells for improvisation
Zuill - Thanks for the advice. WIth metatool it goes somewhat faster, you're right. Copy pasting the expression is what I wanted to avoid, and of course, as you noticed, the file size doesn't change drastically and shapes can adjust indepentendly. Nick & Harald - Thank you for the recommendation, I ...

Rectangular cells for improvisation
Hello everybody, in his guitar piece Tellur, composer Tristan Murail uses rectangular shapes to indicate a cell, or the tones within a cell that are to be improvised with. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to stumble upon a similar discussion here at the Forum, so I am forced to turn to you guys with t...

Re: Forced tie break
Peter and Harald - thank you both for the workaround suggestions, I tried them out and it seems fine in the end. Another workaround came to my mind, too; to hide the time signature and instead to create one in Expression Tool. That won't break the slur, but at least one can move it elsewhere to avoi...

Forced tie break
A tie can be broken because of time signature or barline. In my case, I wanted to break it because of time signature, but as time signature is "originally" positioned down in the staff level, and as I have displaced mine above the staff using Document Options, the tie cannot be broken now. I used Sp...

even spacing
I have a problem with two identical staves consisting of a single bar with completely identical content in Finale 2014, Windows OS (I enclose the screenshot). The spacing of the upper one is moved a bit to the right, whereas the lower one looks okay. I can't figure out what seems to be the issue and...

ties over time measures
In the attached photo, one can see that the lower tie is broken because of the time signature. I would like to ask if there is any way of making it continuous without, for instance, lowering it way under the staff, as if to avoid the time signature. IN short, to keep the tie in the vertical position...

Re: Irrational meters and time signatures
motet - Thank you for the .mus examples, the triplets work now. I entered them by writing them in the "normal" 4/4 bar first and then simply copy pasted them into the "irrational" bar. One was out, two of them remained. It is a workaround, as Peter said, but I guess it's better than nothing. Pity I ...

Re: Irrational meters and time signatures
I'm afraid you lost me there a bit. How does 1/8 + 1/32 + 85/4096 equal two quarter note triplets? Eight note plus 32th note and 4096 note aren't even a single quarter note, or quarter note triplet for that matter. Anyway, I created that bar and couldn't place the two quarter tones triplets. But oka...

Re: Irrational meters and time signatures
Actually, the term irrational comes from Wikipedia, the article on time signatures. The reference they use is an interview with Brian Ferneyhough who himself mentiones irrational meters on his own website. So yes, the basic idea is to have a number in the lower part of signature that isn't 1, 2, 4, ...

Irrational meters and time signatures
I'm interested in creating time signatures which composers like Henry Cowell used, such as 3/6 instead of 2/4, for instance, or any time signature that uses tuplet as a beat. Are they possible to be written down in Finale (without cheating with Expression Tool and hiding the actual time signature, t...

Re: hiding cautionary times signatures in one staff only
Yes Peter, that is exactly what I had in mind. So you created a cautionary mask using Expression Tool and just put it over the time signature? When I delete the expression in the file you've sent me, I don't see cautionary time signature though.

hiding cautionary times signatures in one staff only
As the title suggest, I'm having problems with hiding cautionary time signatures (the time signature that appears on the page before the actual time change). I'd usually hide it using Measure Tool, but in a score with many staves, I'd like to hide it only for certain instruments. And when I use Meas...

Re: Composite accents in lyrics
The attached file worked, yes. That's what made it seem weird. Text tool works, your .mus file works, but not Lyrics Window. I though all I needed to do is to restart Finale, but I have found another way of doing it - copy pasting accents from Text tool to Lyrics Window. For some reason, that line o...

Composite accents in lyrics
I need to type Ancient Greek lyrics into the score, and since there are many accents in the text, Finale won't display them all. Specifically, it is macron accent that's giving me trouble (ō), or macron with combination of tilde or acute (ō̃, ṓ). Funny thing about it, Finale actually supports this k...
