Re: Hiding brackets and clefs
Three months ago I had to work on similar project and I decided to manage all groups and instrument names as text expressions. On the linked PDF all green elements appear as expressions and all in red are smart shapes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r4ees31bi3yxmyi/62.pdf?dl=0 As for the "hidden staff" ...

Re: Won't hide cautionary clef
Found solution in Score Manager / Transposition / Other / uncheck Set to Clef.
Unnecessarily complicated, but it worked. I don't know if it helps anyhow for your cautionary clefs, but that's what I got so far.

Re: Won't hide cautionary clef
In the meantime I have realized that I cannot do basically anything with bass clarinet regarding clefs, in my original file or any new file I create (enclosed in the attachment). I cannot force-show cautionary clefs or even change clefs at all, for that matter. But it does work with other instrument...

Re: Won't hide cautionary clef
And yet in my case, the exact opposite is the problem. I do want to force show a clef, but it doesn't display it (see screen capture), be it cautionary or regular clef. In the rest of the score, it all works well for the other instruments except for the bass clarinet. Could it have something to do w...

Thanks for the help, it worked quite smoothly with Library.

Clef transport
Hello everybody, I have made a nice treble clef with little 15va on top which I would like to use in more than a single Finale file. Is there any way of transporting clef from a file to file or do I have to redesign it all over again in every new file from scratch? Any ideas are very welcome, thanks.

Re: Repetition after clef
Thank you both for the suggestion. Obviously there are few possibilities to achieve the wanted and the optimal one, I guess, depends on the context and what at the moment seems easiest, having in mind how the rest of the score is arranged. I haven't thought of moving the staff to the right, though, ...

Re: Repetition after clef
And what did you do with the bar before that one? You hid the staves before the clef and inserted and extra barline (first screenshot of your previous reply, not second)? I'm afraid Finale doesn't place repetition sign after clef "by default", but it places it in the position of a barline, wherever ...

Re: Repetition after clef
Anders Hedelin - I guess they separated it because bassoon and tuba don't belong to the same section (woodwinds vs. brass). I cannot think any other reason to do that, and I agree with you, connected staves would be visually logical. In the second picture you have attached in your previous post - ar...

Re: Repetition after clef
motet - must have skipped a part of explanation, apologies for that. Yes, Finale does place repetition sign after the clef, but in Lutoslawski's case we can notice an additional barline right before the clef. So how does one most efficiently place clef *between* a barline and a repetition sign? Spli...

Repetition after clef
Hello everybody, I'm enclosing a screenshot from Lutoslawski's Livre with a red arrow pointing to the part of the score I'm interested in. For the aleatoric part in double bassoon and tuba, one can see repetition signs after the clef. Can any of you think of an optimal way of achieving this? In the ...

Re: cannot change barline
It worked nicely and smoothly, thank you very much, motet. I didn't know about this workaround and began to question my own basic notation skills, as something so elementary didn't work. I'd surely wish Finale wouldn't get confused with such things, but I guess it's a cross we all need to bear. Than...

cannot change barline
Hello, has anyone ever had problems with changing the barlines, as in some of them (not all) simply won't change using Measure Tool? I have a double barline which I would like to change to a normal single barline, but nothing seems to work. I tried selecting larger area, even adjusting settings in D...

Re: file size too large
I did and it didn't shrink the file. I even selected all and deleted, so only locked up bars and time measures remained and the size is still 4 MB with basically 13 empty pages in it. I guess it's some bug and I'll have to open a new file and copy paste everything in it.

file size too large
I have been working on a rather small file in Finale (according to statistics in Score Manager: 13 pages, staff systems 52, measures 186, active frames 435, non-whole rest active frames 422), yet the size exceeds 4 MB which seems unusual having in mind much larger scores I worked on have been counte...

Re: Line Tool start/end points
Yes, placing smart shapes before applying the staff style solves the problem of placement. If the process is reversed, as described before, it simply won't work. I guess it's some bug concerning one-line staff option, but this workaround is actually sufficient for my case. Thank you all for helping ...

Re: Line Tool start/end points
Your picture above does not show independent time signatures for the Empty 1-line staff staff style. The black square in the box, as opposed to a check mark, indicates there's no change to that setting. Independent time signatures are used to have 12/8 in one staff and 4/4 in another, that sort of ...

Re: Line Tool start/end points
As N. says, independent time signatures will cause this. Are you using them? I haven't paid attention to it until now, but yes, they independent time signatures were marked "on" within the Staff Style I used for these bars. However, when I turned them off, Finale told me this Staff Style can only b...

Re: Line Tool start/end points
Hello everybody and thanks for the replies. N Grossingink seemed to have been the closest of what I tried to explain, but I see the term line is the confusion. 1) The problem I'm having is with Smart Shape Tools, specifically Custom Line Tool. 2) The screen capture of Staff Styles I included is just...

This is a bit of unusual problem for me and I'm not quite sure what to search for to solve it. I have created a custom line with Line Tool and wanted to draw a lin...

miker - a bit old post, but I've just noticed we may have misunderstood each other. I was looking for three quarter flat accidental, not three quarter sharp. As far as I can see in your attached image, three quarter sharp is displayed, and I couldn't find flats in Engraver font.

But you can not hide Viola barlines with a staff style, not in this document (try it!). Peter - from what I've managed to...

Re: different bar lines per part in score
Or do you want something like regular barlines in some, and dotted or double in others? I believe bacherlorbob meant this actually. And if not, I would like to know the answer to it, if possible. Measure Tool applies to all the staves equally and I'm not sure if barlines could be adjusted "per part...

Peter, thank you for the reply. That actually might be the case. What would then the workaround be, if you happen to know?
I enclose the .mus file this time, so you can check if it is what you meant. I have marked with circles the barlines I was unable to hide.
