Re: Type in Poly Chord

The oblique line (slash) is usually understood as a chord over a bass note.
Polychords generally use an horizontal line between 2 chords (like N. Grossingink suggests), like these examples :
A
C7
(actually C7 b9 13)

Do7
Co7

Re: Hairpins

This should work :
Special Tools.
Select a hairpin in the palette.
Double click on the score (where the shape should start), hold the mouse button down and drag horizontally.
Release the mouse where the shape should end.

Re: HP and fermatas

Hairpins are one of them. Now, about fermatas, if you turn off HP and you still want to hear them, you can enter an invisible tempo alteration (placed anywhere in the measure) that will slow down the tempo and produce a very similar effect. A second tempo alteration or mark can bring the original te...

Re: Pasting text font

You don't specify if you are using the Text Tool or the Expression Tool. A few ideas : Text Tool : Document Options -> Fonts -> Text -> Text Blocks (for new texts) Or via a plug-in -> Miscellaneous -> Change Fonts Expressions : create a category (from a duplicate), define its font. Put all the new t...

JW wrote the JW Lua plug-in, indeed. But many developers have contributed with their own scripts for this plug-in. This particular script was conceived by Chris.

Re: Slash Notation - strange black bar

If the black bar disappears when "Show Staff Styles" is unselected in the Staff menu, it means that it is the bar that appears to inform you that a staff style is active. If it is the case, you have to change its color : Go to the program Preferences -> Display Colours -> Interface Colors. For "Staf...

Re: Two titles on one page

1) If it is a solo piece, and if the score is the part, create "standard" text blocks with the Text tool (no "inserts") for the new title and credits. If you have created a part with modifications of the layout, you may want to attach the texts to a measure rather than to the page or create expressi...

Re: OPEN Finale 2109 files with 2014?

When you speak about 2019, you probably mean Finale 25 or 26. They share the same file format as 2014 (.musx), so they are 99% compatible (minor problem : dotted slurs will be lost).

Re: Whole measure accidental in Speedy

Concerning the whole measure (a factor which I missed at first, sorry), it works for me. I have a setup that is almost similar to yours (25.5 Mac, but 10.11.6, which shouldn't make a difference). In Speedy, Option + or - (numeric keypad or main keyboard) work. The cursor has to be positioned on the ...

25.5 on 10.11.6.
In Speedy, the keys + and - (no option key necessary, but it also works in conjunction with it) work for me on the numeric keypad as well as on the main keyboard of my Mac.

Re: JW Lua

For regular users (who don't intend to create new scripts), JW Lua is simple to use. Just place the existing scripts that you found in the appropriate folder, restart Finale and you are ready to go. There are dozens of useful scripts out there (look at Nick Mazuk's post).

Re: Narrow Slash Chords

It seems that different fonts produce different results.
Concerning the problem of having many chords in one measure, one solution is to reduce the chords (moderately, otherwise the spacing becomes unacceptable). A second staff, resized, will keep correct spacing.

Re: change rests

First, make sure your time signature is 6/8 defined as 2 dotted quarter notes.
Then, Midi/Audio menu - > Quantization Settings -> More Settings -> Allow Dotted Rests in Compound Meters.
Then, select the region, and apply Retranscribe (Midi/Audio menu).
