Well, what I _was_ gonna say...

I was getting ready to complain about the difference between PM documentation and what I actually get when I hit the "Tuplet" button, when I noticed that there are two such buttons, with identical icons. The obvious one, at the bottom of a group of simple entry buttons, is not the one for defining, ...

Peter's close...

It is a little different with PrintMusic -- there is nothing called "Staff Style." First, you will want to have rests (or notes) where the chord changes occur. (You can select the chord notation tool now, or do so after converting to slash notation.) Then, like Peter said, select the range of measur...

X-note heads

As long as the spoken words are not on the same staff as singing, here is a workaround. In the file "instrument.txt", add the following instrument definition, modeled after the snare drum: ------------------------------------------- [INS:Spoken] Name = Spoken Words Abbr = Spk useKeySigs = 0 Transpos...

Re: D.C. al Fine Problem

I don't know, whether PrintMusic 2008 can edit the playback effect of text repeats. In the full Finale you can edit the Repeat Assignment, and give the Fine a playback effect of "Stop On Pass 2". PM 2009 provides similar options in the repeat tool, as far as display goes. DC/DS; al Fine/al Coda; Fi...

Re: Accidental reminders

When adding an accidental to a note in one measure, say a B flat, in the next measure the B reverts back to a natural rather than continuing as a flat. Is there any way to put a natural in parenthesis in the following measure as a reminder? Couldn't be easier (once you know the trick). In Simple En...

Re: Midi-to-USB?

Is such a midi-to-USB cable a standard item (Radio Shack for expl?) It's not usually a cable, as the timing is different for the two protocols. I tried the M-Audio Uno, and it failed me. A web search confirmed that the product has some problems. Their next level up, their MIDIsport 2x2, works well....

I just experimented with Simple Entry

Use mouse and/or left and right arrow keys to navigate to the note. Use up and down arrow keys, with sound turned on, to select the correct instrument. Eventually, you'll encounter a couple different snare drums, with different decay rates. When you hear the one you like, use the right arrow key to ...

Why it works (hypothesis)

Let's call the measure where the half-note and triplets are, "measure 20." So the next one is 21. The errant rest is considered to be attached to measure 20, although it looks like it is in 21. Selection by mouse apparently only works on objects in the current measure. Since the mouse cursor has to ...

Simple Entry II

Another way (in Windows, at least) to get to that rest in Simple Entry would be (1) Pick a half note from the simple entry pick list. 6 on the Numeric pad works too. 6 above the T and Y keys does not work, as it adds a harmony interval. (2) superimpose the cursor (which will look like a dim half not...

Nah.

What you've described is pretty close to what I do with PrintMusic, which is a step below Allegro. Although you may want to upgrade to the latest Allegro for fun, I seriously doubt you will need Finale.

Resize Notes (Help versus reality)

PrintMusic's help tells me the following about Resize: This tool lets you reduce or enlarge a note, group of notes, staff, system, page, or all the music in a piece. When you use it at the note-by-note level, you can create cue notes; at the staff level, you can create a cue staff. Once I am in Resi...

Re: Making small notes for a duet?

I'm in PM 2006. Does anyone know a work-around that lets you make some notes different sizes on the same staff (like the harmony line in a duet)? Four steps that worked in PM 2009: Select a second layer. Enter rests where all the little notes would go. Enter grace notes, attached to the rests. Hide...

MIDIsport 2x2

Actually is it a M-Audio Uno device. I figured that must be thr problem because it's a perfect good, reputable keyboard. I'll try some of those other things, but you knew exactly what I was talking about as far as the low note problem. I'll return this MIDI device. any suggestions for an affordable...

Scoring, not sequencing

I fear the answer is "Yes, that's right." PrintMusic's HyperScribe tool is designed to speed entry of notes, including rhythms, for those with sufficient keyboard skills to do real-time entry. The pedal is ignored, as is velocity information, and just about everything else except note-on and note-of...

Presuming that the MIDI keyboard is sounding through the PC, we'll go to the second step: have you set up PrintMusic to look at that MIDI interface? In PM 2009, there is a top-level menu "MIDI", and under that "Device Setup", and "under" (well, it's an arrow) that "MIDI Setup", which then has menus ...
