That’s what I did; just tied double whole notes front to back.

Drone

I have a piece that's written as chant, with time signatures jumping around: 14/4, 3/4, 9/4, 3/4, jumble around, rinse and repeat. This is no problem, I have the SATB parts entered. However, there is a bass drone under the entire piece. I figured I'd use the organ for sound, but is there a way to se...

Re: Can we write text on top of a placed image?

You might be better off doing that in the PDF stage (assuming you save your docs as PDFs before distributing.) I know that requests to move image elements back or forward has been requested for at least a decade.

Or do your image in a program that allows it, and place it as a combined graphic.

Thanks, Peter. I never knew to look there, even though it's obvious.

Why does Finale put things in so many places...?

Key signatures

Please look at the attached. I can't get the KS to show in the lower four staves. It came in from a scan.I have checked the original in SmartScore, and the KSs are there. They all show that the KS should appear in both the staff properties and measure properties. I have exported and reimported, with...

Enter and hide the original expressions. Use text expressions for the Grainger stylings.

Re: zero beaming

Thanks to all who responded. It was very helpful, and I couldn't find anything in the user manual about this. A note to David Ward and Buon Tempi, as I write I'm looking at a brand new (Barenreiter) score of the St. Matthew Passion (JSB), 8ths and 16ths are NOT beamed when they fall on a single syl...

Re: JW Change Pitches

Thanks to you all. After sitting through Jason's Installing Lua video, I have successfully installed both the RGP Lua, and the Change Pitch plugin.

Happy camper, once again!

JW Change Pitches

JW Change Pitches is not in the Finale bundle, and when I tried to load it, I got the message that it wasn't approved.

Does anyone have a useful replacement?

Something is amiss. I would suggest uninstalling the program, and downloading a fresh installer.

Re: zero beaming

Set up your time signature as straight sixteenths. For example, if your piece is in 4/4, set the time signature as 16, sixteenths, to display as 4/4.

However, that is an older convention. It's more usual to beam to the time signature.

Start with both staves, use the Staff tool, and Hide Empty Staves

You might try turning off Automatic Update, as well.

The shortcuts are so easy, I don’t mind doing it myself.

Thanks, Motet. That looks like it’s only available in a 64-bit beta, and says for F25.

Has anyone used it in 27? I can’t test it myself, because I’m on a Mac.

I’m trying to help a friend, here. He scans a single line score, and imports it into Finale. We’ve solved the transposition issue. All is well. He adds staves for two other instruments, and copies the line into them. What he wants is to generate/extract/link (whatever, please clarify the difference ...

Re: I need midi keyboard for Finale

It's not as simple as that, unfortunately. From what you describe, you're hoping to sit down, play the piano, and have it notated. Using Hyperscribe requires very robotic playing, and really is not for beginners.

I would start by learning Finale, either Simple or Speedy entry.

Did you create it as a Grand Staff? If you create the score as two individual staves, it should work the way you want it to.

Re: Transposing an imported line

So, after playing around, I learned something new about SmartScore: A single-staff doc, such as a scan from a fake book, opens by default as a violin (C instrument.) But if you change that instrument to what it should be, to an Ab or Eb instrument, the transposition is applied. The notes stay the sa...

Transposing an imported line

When exporting an alto sax line from SmartScore, it's coming into finale as guitar. But the pitches and key signature are correct for the alto. This fouls thing up, if I'm going to add a tenor sax and a vocal/guitar line, so I would have three keys: C, Bb, and Eb. How can I change the alto sax line ...

Re: Nudging Beat Chart Handles and Selecting More Than One Handle - Measure Tool

I use that beat chart often, when the spacing has to be tweaked for lyrics. A long word on an eighth note, for example.

I don’t know what the upper row of handles is for, either!
