Re: Replacing rests with notes

Peter is absolutely correct. I did this with Simple Entry, QWERTY: Entered a half rest, and a half note. Tapped the left arrow to move the selection to the rest. Tapped the left arrow again, to set the cursor to the left of the rest. Tapped the numpad 4 to activate eighth note. Tapped B, A, G, F on ...

Re: Replacing rests with notes

In that situation, I would drag/select the existing eighth notes, and drag them to the left, replacing the half note or rest. Then, the repitch tool. With a little practice, you can do all sorts of things like this. Drag just two eighth notes, and leave a quarter note either at the front, or in the ...

Re: Replacing rests with notes

Finale doesn’t work that way, at least in simple entry. If you remove notes in the beginning or middle of a measure, the notes will shift to the left. I don’t know if Speedy is different. That’s where the repitch tool can help, although changing durations may require some extra work with the mouse. ...

Re: Replacing rests with notes

If you select the rest and tap the R key, it will turn into a note of that duration on the middle line. Then, you can repitch the note, or whatever you want to do.

Set Play Finale thru MIDI, and you will get the MP3 option. It doesn't come up with Play thru VST.

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"

Zuill: You are vindicated. It will never be fixed. Motet: You are correct. This is a legitimate bug. The workaround is simple, though. Before going to the next entry following the tuplet, right arrow to the superfluous rest, and DELETE. Maybe, since I enter more slowly than the rest of the experts, ...

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"

No, it doesn't tell you not to delete the rests. It just demonstrates three ways to enter tuplets, referring to the rests as placeholders, and never suggesting that you delete them. As far as not mentioning the bug, why would they? If you use the methods they suggest, it doesn't happen. If they were...

Since most people don't want rests in their tuplets, I think unsuspecting new users can see the rests, say "I don't want that!", and delete them. Not "Simple."
Only the ones who can’t be bothered to watch videos, work tutorials, or read about them.

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"

I consider those rests as placeholders, not eye candy. I would not like to see them go away. I don't generally use the "Use Current" setting. If you set it up for the "actual" (3-16ths in the space of 2-16ths) there are no problems. But just to check, I set it up to "Use Current." Again, for me, no ...

Re: note durations in a chord

With the slur tool, double click on the grace note. Let the slur go where it will. Then click on the slur, and you can drag and resize it as you like.

The H is from the Guitar Articulations library, in the Tablature folder.

Leans and scoops

Are there working Finale articulations for leans, scoops and slides? My director would like me to add them to the learning tracks that I'm generating for the chorus.

And if so, can they be applied to a piano line, even though a piano can't do it?

Re: Using alt-9 to set tuplets/sextuplets/anything-lets

The repitch tool allows you to change the pitch of already-entered notes simply by tapping the new pitch, regardless of the durations. It’s great when you have a complicated rhythm that repeats with different notes. You enter the first measure, then copy it as needed, 3, 4, 5 times; whatever. Then y...

If you double click on that G half note, you should only need to tap the arrow once to get to the "spare" note.

Re: Using alt-9 to set tuplets/sextuplets/anything-lets

Motet asked:
How do you enter a note between two other notes in Simple entry? I don't use Simple entry much but I've never been able to figure that out. Do you need to use the mouse?

Yes. You would have to click in with the mouse. Can you do it in Speedy?
