Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

Agreed. But, given the activity over the past few years, I would say the probability of that is very, very slim.

As an example of not much happening, the last blog post was in November 2023. This is not a company staying engaged with their base.

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

A strange case, indeed. I was able to do it this way, although it took a couple of extra steps: 4, 0, 9 enters an eighth rest and set up the triplet Right arrow to the middle rest. R to change it back to a note (it will be the middle line, regardless of bass or treble clef.) Use the up or down arrow...

Re: Some chords not printing

Can you post the file? We don't need the whole thing, just some measures which show the problem.

Since it's just one file, try exporting it as XML, and importing it back into Finale.

What happens if you copy the entire piece to a new document?

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

And a MIDI keyboard just won’t do it for me. As I’ve said in the past, I quit piano lessons as soon as there were more than two accidentals in the key signature. In Simple on the QWERTY, if there’s a Bb in the key sig, all I do is tap the B. And it’s flat. I am in awe of pianists. In awe of all of y...

Back up to the first note and tap Return. If Return doesn’t do it, try Enter.

Re: Inserting systems messes up previous pages

I suggest you work in scroll view, with as many staves as you need. When all the notes are entered, switch to page view. THEN you can start fixing the layout, hiding staves as desired. Try to work front-to-back as much as possible, once you’re at this stage. Going back will mess everything up, as yo...

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

Sorry, but no, no, no. 4, pitch, dot. 9 (default or choice should be 3 eighths in 2 eighths, NOT use current.) 3, pitch. Pay no attention to the rests. Don’t backspace, delete, anything. 4, pitch. This will leave a superfluous rest. Right arrow, delete it. Use Broken Beam tool to reverse the tail. D...

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

Good idea, I'll add it to the tutorial. I was able to do it with the QWERTY keyboard, by entering the dotted eighth, and then 9 for my default. I entered the 16th, and the final 8th. As is common with funky tuplets, it generated an extra rest; just arrow over to it and delete. Finally, the Broken Be...

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

Missing a dot on the eighth note? This can happen in Simple entry using the mouse. I suggest switching the QWERTY entry (easy to learn, and will save you a lot of time). Mike, I don't think layers are the issue (the colored notes indicate out of range). Perhaps you can post your tutorial for enteri...

Re: notating rhythm, concerned the part will look weird

Is the B supposed to play along with the 8ths and 16th, as well as being held? What’s with the triplet and the extra rests?

You need to watch the video help files, about layers. The video is called Working with Multiple Voices. That’s one of the most basic and important skills to learn about Finale.

TG Tools Easy Tremolos

Wondering why, when I apply the trem to quarter notes, it correctly changes the noteheads to halves, but beams them together. When I apply the plug in to eighth notes, it floats the trem beams between the stems.

I would like to see the second instance both times.

As motet said, adjust the top margin by dragging in Page Layout, and back to the Staff tool to drag the system up.

I've got them down to about 70%, but I can certainly go a little smaller. Would you indicate that it's a cue with a text note at the beginning of the staff?

Thanks!

Not in your Finale Folder. Look in your Finale settings (under the Finale menu) to get the path to the folder.

It looks like you may have gone down the wrong path.

Bass intro

A friend is setting a piece with a 4-bar bass intro, before the other parts come in on the last eighth beat. (This will be rewritten as parts for sax, bones, etc., so disregard the instrument names.) This is about the clearest I can come up with. Good? Bad? Since it's parts, I don't need any indicat...

Re: Finalescript plug-in empty

Follow the path shown in Finale > Settings > Folders. There should be a Finalescripts bundle in it.

Note that the path is different from most of the others, in that it starts directly from the hard drive level. Yours may have gotten misdirected at some point. (Click to enlarge the image)

What font is it? Just load it into Windows. It should then be available for use in Finale.
